1st Visit to a CL

For our 3rd trip as novices my wife and I wanted to stay in the Bedale area as it is one of our favourite market towns. After looking at various sites I chose Long Garth, which is our first experience of a CL. I felt at ease speaking to the owner on the phone and was advised 'turn up any time you like'. The owners are at work during the day so on arrival you just select a pitch of your choice. The field slopes gently towards the bottom, where the infrequent Wensleydale Railway service ambles slowly by. There is a petrol station with a very good sized Spar shop next door which can supply all your needs. The car showroom shown on the photos has now closed and the buildings are in multi use. Walking into Bedale takes about 20 minutes (0.7 mile) and the road is no longer very busy as there is now a new jct off the A1 meaning most traffic does not pass the site. There are also a couple of footpaths/bridleways into Bedale. Northallerton, Thirsk, Masham and Leyburn are all within about 10 miles and are all worth a visit. Bedale itself is a lovely little place with several pubs and good local shops. The toilet and shower are in an old shipping container and are quite adequate if not modern. It is after all a CL and not a 5* hotel. For £15 a night including electric hook up we thought it was great value and a very peaceful site. We will definitely be paying a return visit.
