Low Glengyre Fm, Stranraer...Bit of a Curate's Egg

The site has 5 H/S pitches, 3 of which are serviced, but do need some tlc being quite rough and sloping. There are views across the surrounding agricultural land and over to the hills beyond Loch Ryan (not visible). The road past the site has little traffic hence the site is very quiet but the farm track up to it is rough and relatively steep when coming off the site. The CL does have a couple of toilets, a shower & a washing machine (charge), free wifi, but the TV connection did not work, and reception was poor with our ariel. There is a Lidl, Morrisons with petrol, and a Tesco at Stranraer about 5 miles from the site. Most points of interest on the Rhinns of Galloway are easily accessed along quiet roads and the Ferries from Cairnryan to Ireland are also a short drive away. Claire the owner, and the children were very friendly and helpful.

Brilliant Campsite in lovely surroundings

A fantastic little site run by a family who go Caravanning themselves, so understand what is required. Very friendly family who go out of their way to help. We've been coming here on and off for several years now because the site is so peaceful and lovely, as a previous reviewer said the track could be a challenge for a small car but we've never had any problems. WIFI has been added and TV point water and drainage to each site, facilities that make this site stand out from the crowd. We will definitely be visiting this wonderful little site again and again.

Lovely quiet site

Lovely site with nice views. Nice friendly welcome off owners Claire her husband, their children were lovely and chatted with us for a while, finding us a crumble and some eggs, which they sold on site (delicious by the way). The facilities are lovely and clean and there are lots of information leaflets for visitors. Our motorhome developed problems and we needed to stay an extra night, this wasn't a problem and everyone was helpful suggesting possible garages were we might get assistance. Unfortunately it couldn't be fixed locally and while we waited for recovery home from the RAC we enjoyed sitting on the bench in the sun in the peace and quiet (could of been worse). Would return again in the future.

OK CL

This is a CL on a working farm, up a steep stony drive so take care. Sharp stones are the ground cover in the CL, unsuitable for kids to play on. Facilities are clean and tidy. A static caravan is located on the CL and this has a hot tub outside it, so there was noise from the people staying in the static while they partied in their hot tub. The owners seemed nice, though we didn't have much dealing with them.

Beautiful CL - Beautiful Location

Just returned from this fantastic site which really does give you the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere whilst only being 2 miles from Stranraer where you can get all your provisions, and there is a general store closer still.  There are plenty of fabulous walks in the area and spectacular beaches (some harder to find than others, but well worth the effort). There was much more to do here than we first realised.... including day trips to Ireland to see the Giants Causeway or the Belfast Titanic Exhibition. All this information was gained from the very informative packs put together by the site owners. The very friendly family who run this CL are caravaners themselves and have thought of everything, even including beautiful toiletries in the shower. As this site is on a working farm the owner is generally always on hand should you need anything. As to the site itself we agree with the other reviewers, who have said it is clean tidy and well kept. On a stormy weekend we had no problems with water or electricity supply or drainage. We are very glad we found this site and will certainly return in the future.

Fabulous friendly farm

We booked for 7 nights. Pre-arrival emails to ask about access (we are 7.5 mtrs with large rear overhang) were answered quickly and comprehensive. Found site easily. Very warm welcome from family. Peace and quiet. Sheltered from worst of 45+mph winds on our stay. Facilities basic but clean. Honesty box foe shower/washer. We just added up showers and washing we would need and paid with pitch fees. Owners around everyday and very eager to help with any request. We walked and cycled around the local area. Garden centre with great cakes easy 2 mile walk away. Sat and relaxed in the evenings listening to cows, birds and not much else. Going to Giants Causeway on Wed (owner told us ferry company does day trips and it's just £30 pp). Culzean Castle not far away too. If you want to be entertained 24/7 and have piped music in the loo this site is not for you. If you want peace and quiet, to meet a lovely family and chill out this IS the place to come. Water, elec, tv on pitch. Wifi available free. 1 shower and 2 loos in same small shed. We love it.

Lovely CL with extras

Simply can't agree with the last review. This is a farm CL and the track from the road is a bit rough but we have found much worse elsewhere, just take your time. When we got there we had a level hard standing with water, waste, TV connection and free WiFi. Not to mention the superb view. There is a small, modern 'toilet block' with toilets, shower and even a washing machine. (Honesty box for shower and washing machine). Very friendly welcome from the owners. We thought it a site good for couples and families.

Great site, great people

This was an excellent site with clean and well thought out facilities in beautiful surroundings. An easy distance from Stranraer so convenient for the ferry but a lovely area, well worth a few day's stay to explore. The children of the farm - Andrew, Alistair and Rebecca - were a delight and although mum made sure they were not a nuisance, they kept me company on a very enjoyable walk. Lovely family, lovely site. Thanks for a very pleasant stay.

A great working farm stay!!!!

Had a fantastic time. Clean shower and 2 toilets, and a washing machine which was really useful! Were given loads of useful local information on what to do in the surrounding area including gardens, beaches, cafes, walks as well as the usual selection of leaflets. Amazing swimming pool in Stranraer too. Family were extremely friendly and we were given a tour of the farm on more than one occasion. Our 2 young kids loved seeing the cows and pigs and sitting on the tractor, as well as playing with the children. This is an ideal location for any family with kids under the age of 10, or for couples wanting to go for walks and visiting the numerous gardens as there's so much to do. Its also a good place to stop for anyone wanting to jump on the ferry to Belfast or anyone interested in seeing a working dairy farm. We will probably head back there again for our main holiday next year as there was stuff we didn't get time to do! Thanks Clare (+ Rebecca + Alistair + Andrew) for a fab holiday

Rather Special

Southern Scotland has much to offer and we picked this site as it guaranteed a hard standing and is well placed for touring this lovely area. Having got stuck on grass pitches last year - and although this summer is dry so far - we feel it important to support hard standing CLs so they are still there for the rainy days in the future. The approach is up a stony farm track which needs a little care as you drive but you are amply rewarded when you reach the site with lovely long range views to the hills beyond Loch Ryan. The hard standings have grass next to them for awnings or chairs. Wooden seats are also provided on each pitch which is a nice touch. It is a working farm but we heard little general farm noise apart from the occasional tractors that understandably have to use the farm track at times. Claire has provided much more than we usually expect at a CL, with thoughtful touches like a dedicated CT Disposal Room - complete with wash hand basin, soap and towel. The standard Tourist Info leaflets were supplemented by the site with their own produced info on suggested places to visit. There was even a copy of the local newspaper to read. There are laundry facilities, shower room and toilets. Homemade produce was also available. It is in a lovely peaceful location and the thought and care that the owners have put into this site do make it rather special.
