Rather Special

Southern Scotland has much to offer and we picked this site as it guaranteed a hard standing and is well placed for touring this lovely area. Having got stuck on grass pitches last year - and although this summer is dry so far - we feel it important to support hard standing CLs so they are still there for the rainy days in the future. The approach is up a stony farm track which needs a little care as you drive but you are amply rewarded when you reach the site with lovely long range views to the hills beyond Loch Ryan. The hard standings have grass next to them for awnings or chairs. Wooden seats are also provided on each pitch which is a nice touch. It is a working farm but we heard little general farm noise apart from the occasional tractors that understandably have to use the farm track at times. Claire has provided much more than we usually expect at a CL, with thoughtful touches like a dedicated CT Disposal Room - complete with wash hand basin, soap and towel. The standard Tourist Info leaflets were supplemented by the site with their own produced info on suggested places to visit. There was even a copy of the local newspaper to read. There are laundry facilities, shower room and toilets. Homemade produce was also available. It is in a lovely peaceful location and the thought and care that the owners have put into this site do make it rather special.

North Rhins of Galloway

A good CL. We knew the South Rhin well so decided to look at the other end of the peninsular which centres north and south from Stranraer. The site is fine and well looked after by Claire with good toillet and shower facility. Showers paid for by honesty box at £1 a time and £12 per night for pitch so its really £14 per night if you shower using facilities per night. This is a working farm and contracting business so it can be noisy as it was for us with silage being cut and brought in with noisy machinery well into the night and again early morning. No complaint from us as we are used to these things at home but townies looking for total peace should be aware. That said Claire and family are most welcoming and we had a a very relaxing few days. Spot on stay for ferries to Ireland as abour a 20 minute easy tow to terminals.

More than an overnight for the Cairnryan Ferry

We stopped overnight here on May 13th 2013, a wet and windy night, before we took the ferry next morning. A very warm reception from Claire. Nice flat stony pitches with room to stay hooked up if necessary. Toilet and shower facilities adequate and spotlessly clean. The weather and our timetable meant we could not take full advantage. On our return from Ireland two weeks later the weather was kinder and when we woke up the weather was so good we decided to stay another day. The site is well situated for exploring the Mull of Galloway, with its many botanic gardens and pretty little ports. Portpatrick and Port Logan gardens are a must. The access road, being a farm track, is a little bit rough, but no problem if you take it slowly. Well worth a visit and we would certainly use it again. Thanks Claire.

Quiet peaceful and friendly site

We spent two nights at this site and were made very welcome by owner Claire and Bella her 7month old puppy. The facility's on the site were excellent and very clean, and claire has provided some folders containing information about all the attractions in the surrounding area. Our reason for choosing this site was it's closeness to the Irish ferry terminals as we were taking day trip to the Belfast Titanic exhibition but fully intend to return for a longer stay and explore the local area

Friendly site with views

We stayed one night at this friendly site with lovely views and bought some of Claire's home made jams and chutneys as presents for those back home (guaranteed not made in China!) One jar of tasty jam didn't make it home though - smashing on toast.... Superb shower and toilet facility for such a small site!! (check out the posh shower cubicle!) And hardstandings so we couldn't get stuck yet again. We had it all to ourselves so felt like lords of the manor! We would be very happy to stay here next time we're in the area.
