Marvellous find

Brilliant location, peaceful and marvellous views. Good sized hardstanding pitches with 16A EHU, all for £22. Water, waste bins and CDP close to the main buildings but no problem. Showers and toilets are a nice touch. 1 mile walk to Pocklington along fairly quiet road. Good value site, well run and in a lovely location for other areas of the county. We will return.

Excellent

This site is excellent, all hardstanding pitches with EHU and 2 toilets and showers in a great location just 5 minutes from Pocklington but peace and tranquillity. booking with Sue is simple and access to the site great with loads of space. Value for money is exceptional and it even includes wifi. Sue now has a shepherds hut on site for those non caravaners that wish to come with you also at a great price. Sue is a great host but not in your face, there when needed. This was the 5th time we have been and we will be back. Thanks Sue

Springtime in Yorkshire

Visited for 6 nights. The site is beautifully laid out with all pitches overlooking the extensive lawn and pond. The road runs along the perimeter hedge but is never busy, mainly local tractors etc. The site has a laid back feel and only met Sue once when we went to the house to pay. Good location for Pocklington which has some nice shops & supermarkets etc. York, The Wolds and even the east coast resorts are less than an hour away. Handy & clean facilities with 2 shower/toilet rooms. This was as a godsend to our friends who were with us as they had water pump problems on their unit. The pitches catch the morning sun, but as there is a stand of pine trees behind, the sun is blocked for the afternoon/evening which is a shame for those wanting to sit in the sun later. That said, the site is sheltered against strong winds from that direction. Really enjoyed our stay and didn't want to go home. Highly recommend.

Great little site

I booked for 3 nights, just wanted a quiet site to explore the area that was about an hours journey from home. I wasn’t disappointed, perfect spot for exploring Pocklington and surrounding area. Sue was very welcoming and as the site wasn’t full I had a choice of pitch. My elderly dog enjoyed his strolls around the field and pond. As it was February we weren’t able to sit outside but I imagine it would be very pleasant. The toilet and showers were spotless, I didn’t use the showers so can’t comment on them. I will certainly be booking another visit in the near future as there are still many places to visit.

Excellent base for visiting the Yorkshire Wolds

Contrary to the review which says the site has been open for 3 years, we first stayed 4 years ago, phoning ahead on the day to check as we had a foot of snow at home! (It was mid March!) when Sue replied ‘what snow’, we set off and had a very enjoyable stay, even getting help from Alan when I was finding our brand new motor mover too stiff to lock on. Unfortunately we left a day earlier than planned due to a horrendous weather forecast! This March, we visited again, the site being convenient for the Wolds and for visiting our granddaughter at Uni + friends in York and a friend in Bridlington. Weather much improved this year from our last visit, so stayed our full planned 10 days. Some traffic passing between 8-9am, bit otherwise a quiet site - no problem with noise from the nearby waste site as suggested by a previous review - perhaps they were unlucky? Toilet/Shower block set up since our previous visit - we didn’t make use, but we’re nosy and found the two separate compartments to be clean, tidy and spacious. Whilst there, Sue had discovered we were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary & presented us with a very acceptable bottle of Rioja! This may not be the site for those who want shops/food/pubs within walking distance (2 miles into Pocklington) but is ideal in many other ways. The site remains on our list and we shall be back!

Best CL Site we have stayed on ..................BUT !!

My wife and I have just returned home from a wonderful four-day break at Martindale Farm CL, which is perhaps the best CL we have had the pleasure to visit since starting caravanning in 2003.The site is easily accessed via a wide gate, preceded by excellent guidance to the site provided by the site owners, Sue and Alan, who are lovely helpful people, (I had an issue with my tow car which meant starting our stay later than planned - this was not a problem to them). The CL is well equipped with two toilet and shower rooms, which were kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay. Alongside these, were the fresh and grey water points, chemical disposal point and recycling facilities - all were well maintained and kept clean and tidy. This area is only a short walk from the level, gravelled pitches, (six in total),each with their own electric hook up point. Each pitch overlooks a shared well maintained large lawn with picnic benches and tables that overlook the CL's pond. The whole site shouted out, "We the owners care for our site, take pride in it and want our visitors to have a wonderful stay". When I leave reviews I like to be balanced and honest, and reserve the right to make negative comments as well as positive ones, when needed. So now, to the, 'BUT' indicated in my review title. The CL appears to be in two sections. A grassed area to the left of the access drive and then the area described above, to the right. Upon our arrival, the grassed area to the left had a large motorhome set up on pitch. On the right section were two caravans and a small motor home already 'pitched up'. This left us with a choice of three hardstanding pitches. We decided on the far corner pitch which was a large, quiet and private pitch surrounded by the border hedge with a backdrop of trees. Whilst setting up, three further caravans arrived. We were approached by one of the drivers who asked if we were leaving as the site seemed full. I explained we had only just arrived and this annoyed both the gentleman and I, due to this now making eight units on site rather than the permitted five units for a CL. This meant, none of the three new arrivals should have stayed, but they were allowed to do so. Day two saw one of the motorhomes leave, but seven units, (including ourselves), remained during our stay. This should NOT have been allowed and is the subject of my, 'BUT' and subsequent 'overall',downgrade. Five units maximum means just that and is one of the reasons why members choose to stay on a CL site. As I said before, this is a wonderful site, very well maintained, cared for, and spotlessly clean. Would I recommend a visit? Most definitely if you are happy that you may have more than the five units maximum supposedly allowed during your stay.

Great site, lovely owners

Thanks to Alan and Sue for a lovely week away staying on their site. Don't bother you at all, but they are there if you need anything. They obviously take pride in making sure everything looks nice. Everything was spotless, the loos and showers are great and have all things you need, including shower mat, hooks, somewhere to put your belongings, so appreciated. Very quiet site, yet close and easy access to Pocklington/York. The pond is perfect for sitting near to drink your morning cuppa or a glass of something nice in the evening. (and a welcome bottle of wine was much appreciated!) Will definitely be back before very long. Pam & Allan

Great CL!

Just returned from our 3rd visit to this lovely site. Nice flat spacious pitches, friendly owners, excellent facilities now include showers and toilets. Large lawned area and pond, dog walk, easy access from road. Located close to Pocklington with a good selection of shops. Definitely one of the best CL’s we have found.
