Ease of arrival/welcome

Excellent site, close to grandchildren

A very excellent site with a couple of small drawbacks. The site itself has small hardstandings. Some of them are a bit sloping - make sure you've got some "woods" for levelling on some pitches.

The farm shop is good - welcoming and the coffee shop does a 10% discount for residents! Nice little small animal area; donkeys, alpacas, pigs, chickens, goats etc.

The downsides:

Chemical waste disposal is great (an old loo with a hose for washing) but this is also the grey water disposal point and I can't lift a large container that high. Next time, I'll need to bring a smaller container and keep emptying it. There will be a next time!

The motorway is pretty close and there's constant traffic noise. It's not very disturbing. The constant noise is filtered out and ignored. The irregular roar of a fairly busy road is much worse (as at Tredegar House)!

brianwoods found them to be not very welcoming. On one occasion when I tried to book, I got the same. It all depends, I suspect, who in the shop picks up the phone. Contact is largely with the shop staff, rather than with the site (and shop) owner. Some know what is going on; others have very little idea.

Access is surprisingly convoluted for somewhere so close to the motorway. Use J32 and go either north on A470 and down again via Caerffili on the A469 (longer, but main roads) or south through Rhiwbina then up the A469 (smaller roads, but no problems).

Definitely the best of the sites anywhere near the grandchildren in Ponty!

(Beware the donkey. He'll grab your sleeve and then sit, quite quiet and unbothered, with his teeth clenched. All you can do is to wait!)
