A gem of a CL

We have stayed on this site every year for the past 28 years, which is unusual as we like to explore all of Britain. It is in a beautiful location, central to explore all of Pembrokeshire and its beautiful coast, is peaceful and ideal to get away from it all. The site is slightly sloping, but only enough to perhaps require a levelling block under one wheel, depending where you site in the field. There is a choice of six hook-ups and the large field provides plenty of space. The James’ family are friendly and helpful and when our children were younger (they have now flown the nest, but do still like to visit) they were always welcome to see how the farm worked and enjoyed spending time with the animals. The lane to the site isn’t tarmacked or concreted, but as the photo shows on this website, it is perfectly ok for use by cars whether towing the caravan or not. There are walks around the farm, through woodland, across fields and down to the stream and river. We would highly recommend a stay on this CL.

Review of Newton East Farm CL

We have stayed here a number of times and have found it to be a haven of peace. We have stayed on the caravan site which is very spacious whilst our other family members have stayed in the log cabin which also belongs to Mr. and Mrs. James. The entrance drive has to be taken slowly as it is bumpy but this is a small price to pay for such an attractive site. We have found Elizabeth and Richard James to be very friendly. There are some nice walks around the farm and the Pembrokeshire coast which is only a few miles away is very beautiful. This is one of our favourite sites despite being a long way from our home.

Ye Old Farm CL

Stayed on this CL for 15 nights March 2013 and enjoyed our time on this CL. The CL is a large grassed slopping field with 3 hook-up boxes (each containing two outlets) positioned far apart from each other around the edge of the field so giving complete seclusion and privacy to each unit. There is a hard standing area just inside the gate to the left. The site is exceptional quite apart from the usual farm noise behind the site which was no problem. The CL is suffering from old age especially the toilet, although clean and fit to use the toilet seat is broken, no door lock, window seized open facing into the farm yard so certainly needs updating. There is no information board giving basic details of emergency phone numbers or contact details of the CL owner. Because the lanes from the A40 are very narrow and become even more narrow as you proceed to the site off the A40 one must obey the CL owner’s directions to the CL. The farm track from the lane to the CL field is approx 250yds long; this track really does give an extremely rough ride because of the holes (which are deeper then they look) and unevenness of the track, One must make sure the contents of your unit are very secure before taking your unit over this farm track to the CL field, even without my caravan in-tow I did not attempt to drive faster then 2-3 mph in 1st gear because I was concerned for my Nissan X-rail suspension. Mrs James never made herself known to us for the entire 15 nights but we briefly spoke to Mr James as he passed us on his farm tractor once, so cannot really make any comment regards the CL owners (we paid by bank transfer before leaving home). We fully recommend the Hart Inn just outside Letterston on the A40 approx 2.5miles from the CL, open all day for food, the food and service was exceptional making us return six times for meals during our stay, the Hart does have a web site. Would I return to this CL, NO because of the state of the farm track from the lane to the CL field? There is a Large Morrison’s supermarket just off the A40 in Haverfordwest.

Comment from the Community Manager:

Many thanks for leaving a review for Newton East Farm and we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your time at this site. The CL owner has contacted me as she wants to address some of your concerns for future reference.

The owners are hoping to make some improvements to the toilet facilities in the future. Please be advised that although the toilet is basic (and they state in the site description that there is no wash facilities or shower) it is kept clean and there is a small lock on the toilet door. The site also benefits from electrical hook-ups, chemical emptying point and water tap. The emergency phone number to contact the owners is the number in the Sites Directory and Handbook and on the website. Also the house is on the farmyard, easy for anyone staying on the site to access in case of an emergency. For anyone concerned about the drive, it is a hard track of about ¼ mile and you can see part of it from the photo gallery for your reference. It is a small lane but very quiet and the owners have advised that if it is driven sensibly, it isn’t a problem at all.

The CL owners were more than happy to give you lots of advice prior to your stay via email, including what directions to take and the best places to go out and eat in the area. They will always try and answer any member’s questions wherever they can and offer their help if required. The owners often greet their guests at the house when they arrive to pay, but as you had chosen to pay by bank transfer there was no need for you to visit the house. They do try not to go knocking on people’s caravan doors as many of their guests have come to stay with them to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the farm, but if you had any questions or wanted to say hello to the owners you would be more than welcome at the house. I hope this addresses some of your concerns and please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
