How CL sites should be

We stayed here for 10 nights and yes the lane to the site is narrow but not impossible even for someone like me. Many reviews seem to focus on this but what is the most important aspect of the site is the stunning location. The views are amazing and it is so quiet here. We were lucky to have a few nights with just us and we could have been the only people in the world. Petworth is just around the corner and Petworth house has to be on your list. I would also recommend spending a day in Midhurst. Just outside of Petworth is a pub called the Badger - Google it as it is worth a visit and the food is amazing. Back to the site, the owner popped around a few times just to say hello and make sure we were all ok and to see if we needed anything and was always helpful and friendly. Overall a really nice out-of-the-way CL for those really want to get back to nature.

Has lots of potential

This site certainly has lots of potential for being a five star site however a couple of things let it down. We stayed end of May for four nights with our three dogs and two birth caravan. ARRIVAL: Make sure you do your homework on how to access the site as it's quite far down country lanes to access the site. We didn't have any trouble towing along the lanes but I imagine it would be fun meeting a lorry or any large farm machinery! My recommendation is drive along the A272 and then turn off onto "New Road". Turn left onto "Upperton Road". turn left onto Westlands Copse Lane (there's a sign post saying river common). This lane is very narrow but it's only used for access to houses so there's not much traffic. Drive along Westlands Copse Lane and the site is on the right hand side marked with a caravan and motorhome club sign. No problem with the access into the field. SITE: the site is wonderful! It's an extremely large L shaped field probably 2 acres. The views from the site are beautiful. There's is basically no traffic noise except from the odd vehicle accessing the houses at the end of the lane. There are no marked pitches so it's basically pitch up where you fancy. I like the concept of this but a regular user arrived and told us we parked in their favourite space so literally set up on our backside, I asked if they could park a little further away but she refused to move and said she comes to the site often and we were in her favourite spot, to give you a rough idea she parked 2/3 meters away despite the rest of the 2 acre site being completely empty!!! They were that close my husband said we might as well cook them dinner too. I think this site would be much better if the pitches were numbered to stop everyone clustering ontop of each other, or to stop the motorhomes parking ontop of the water tap and permanently plugging directly into the drinking water tap. FACILITIES: this is a minimal basic site which is lovely for an off grid trip. All the facilities are located at the far end of the field. There is one drinking water tap, one brown (poo) tap, recycling bin, general waste bin. The casette emptying is interesting! Definitely one to let the husband do... It was very full with lots of 'floaties' and is essentially a half buried bin in the ground. WALKING: lovely area for dog walking, there's alot of deer running around. OWNER: the site could really benefit from the owner doing a little bit of management. During our stay we saw the owner once emptying the bins. I tried to contact the owner prior to and on my arrival but I didn't get any answer. It would be lovely if the owners could manage the spacing between the pitches to stop you gaining uninvited guests!!! (The campervan that parked up our backside) and to just pop his head around to check their are no problems. I probably would return to the site again but my husband is not so sure due to the lack of management of the pitch spacing.

Fabulous

This is a wonderful place to stay. Lovely big field, good sunny aspect, excellent Mobile signal (Vodafone), great views. Water, elsan, rubbish and recycling. The access lane is narrow but is not a problem, just take your time. The lane serves a number of properties but that's all, so there is the occasional passing vehicle but nothing that could be classed as 'road noise'. The prominent sounds are of birds. The woodland surrounding the area is beautiful. Good walking from the site, particularly up to the Mast, if you're feeling energetic. We walked up and it was a stunning walk. Quiet, laid back beautiful place. £10 pn. Loved it. Stayed in early April.

Bliss Motorhome stay

Stayed on this site for 4 nights in a quiet beautiful area, on grass able to find level area with outstanding views, Mr Drake was very welcoming, paid cash. Able to hear lots pf birds and see deer in the field in front. The site faces West with views to the west and North. Fresh Water and disposal sewage though quite basic but it worked for me. My days were cycling around the country lanes very little traffic, but do get the odd combine harvester and tractors. The lane up to the site is narrow in places with vehicles parking so careful driving is essential. Petworth House National Trust is close by, easy by Bike or walk. Great walking area needs OS Map. Lurgashal has a very well stocked store & Post Office with local produce and the Noah's Ark Pub a Green King establishment is very popular. A basic site no frills and hope to return again.

Peaceful stay

Had a very peaceful 2 night stay over a very wet weekend in early August 2021. The site is nice and large and pitches well spaced out. It had everything we wanted i.e. not a lot. Just fresh water and waste disposal. We were worried we might get bogged down on the grass after so much rain but got off no problem. The owner was helpful, saying he would give us a tow if needed but this was luckily not required.

Away from it all

This was our first outing in our new campervan (at the end of April) and it couldn't have been better. There were six very well spaced out vehicles at the edge of an arable field in beautiful countryside. There are excellent walks from the site and everything was so quiet, other than bird song. We will be happy to return.

What an antidote to Lockdown

As noted before, peaceful, beautiful views, lovely walks and loads of space on the site. All facilities were well managed and the relaxed attitude of the owner to arrival and departure was an additional bonus, adding to the easy-going feel of this site.

Peaceful Site

We visited this site 3 times this year for weekend breaks. If you want a peaceful site with good views and plenty of space with minimal basic facilities, this is the site for you. For the energetic there are plenty of walks in the surrounding area. For the not so energetic Petworth, Midhurst and Chichester are not far by car and well worth a visit. As the site was not full, the owner allowed us to stay as long as we liked on the final day, which virtually gave us an extra day on each visit.

Bliss

Lovely site.  Agree with earlier reviews.  Chemical emptying was a bit gross.  Although we phoned and left messages, we didn't see the owners - not a problem for us.  Cheque sent in the post on our return.  Will definitely return if we are in the area.  Thank you for giving us access to such a lovely spot.

Peace

We have just spent 3 nights here in order to visit Petworth house. We managed to walk to the house but was about two and a half miles, but quite doable. Lovely site with good views and also lovely walk to next village of Lodsworth with good pub. The only downside was the chemical emptying which was full and rather putrid.
