Please be careful when booking this site

This is not a comment about the campsite as we never managed to get there. It is a warning to other people considering booking this site - please make sure you are fully appraised of Mr Jackson's terms and conditions before you book My husband I booked this site for three nights earlier this month. Prior to that we were staying on another small 5 pitch CL site also on Orkney. Six nights before we were due to arrive at Mr Jackson's site my husband became seriously ill. He was admitted to Orkney Hospital and subsequently airlifted to Aberdeen We did think, given the extenuating circumstances, Mr Jackson might consider some sort of refund. As soon as we knew we would not be able to fulfil our booking we informed Mr Jackson's wife. We were surprised and upset that she took it upon herself to ask personal information about my husbands health - as it could be "something as trivial as a cut finger". We were told we had already incurred expense on his site - even though we had never set foot in the place. We were regaled with detailed information about his own personal and family problems - and this was offered in part as an explanation why he could not consider a refund. He also took it upon himself to book us in for a further three night stay in September without any consultation with us at all. We were surprised and disappointed with our dealings with Mr Jackson and his wife. His response was in marked contrast to other small Orkney businesses (including the small CL site we were already on) which all responded in a kind and understanding spirit. It feels to me as though Mr Jackson's money matters more to him than human kindness, customer care and goodwill.

Perfect spot

We spent a wonderful week at Pool Farmhouse CL whilst exploring the southern end of the Orkney Islands. The site is well maintained and superb value for money. We will definitely return.

A lovely CL with very friendly and helpful host

We were very pleased that we chose this site as our first on Orkney. Alan was a great host amd told us where to take our dog for walks, where to see seals and possibly shirt eared owls. The site is well situated for exploring the southern isles and all the attractions in the area

Lovely quiet CL

We spent 3 lovely quiet nights at this lovely little CL. Alan greeted us along with his playful dogs, and gave us plenty of advice regarding where to see the seals, all about the local birds and owls. This CL is a perfect location for the Pentland Ferry (when running) and to explore South Ronaldsay and visit the Italian Chapel. The pitches are gravel hardstanding and pretty level The water supply and waste is in a small area with the recycling bins, within the CL area. The chemical waste point (organic/eco friendly chemical required) is in the toilet shed a short walk away with hand wash facilities. There are no showers or washing facilities but this is made clear on the website, and adds to the simplicity. We found that the max 10 Kw of electric use per day was not a problem, and actually made us a more energy efficient than usual. Nicely landscaped. If you want a quiet few days away, this is ideal

Great site, well positioned for beaches and attractions

Great little site, easy to find, friendly and helpful owner. We stayed here on two separate occasions during our 3 week Orkney stay. Lovely walk to beach from the site which we did with our dogs. Facilities of a good standard too and it's great if you're getting the ferry to or from St Margaret's Hope the next day. The Italian Chapel isn't too far to drive to and the Churchill Barriers give access from S Ronaldsay through other isles to the mainland.

Great CL Site

This CL is lovely, simplistic, and a little quirky all in one. Pitches are level and water supply and waste is in a small area with the recycling bins. The CDP is in the tastefully decorated toilet shed which really does work for both functions. The welcome from Alan was first class and he did describe some of his projects. We were there late may 2021 for 3 nights and a sea fret was engulfing the area for the first two nights …. It lifted for the third night revealing stunning views out to sea in brilliant sunshine Fantastic stay and a big thank you from us Tips: Italian Chapel, Skara Brae, Standing Stones of Stenness, Ring of Brodgar, Maeshowe, are all 'doable' in one day

P

What a super CL! We are the only unit on this CL this evening, therefore it is a shame that it is seemingly underused in May. The site js beautifully kept and it is so quiet! At £15.00 pupn in including EH, it is a ‘must visit’ CL for anyone visiting Orkney. It’s only about 10 mins from the Port of St Margaret’s Hope. Enjoy!

Beautiful CL site in fab location

We stayed here for 4 nights on our recent epic journey north from the Midlands to Orkney staying at caravan club sites a long the way. This was our base on Orkney and was very convenient for exploring the South Islands and the Mainland. A lovely site to stay at in an excellent location, great view and friendly owner. Sink and toilet if needed a short walk from pitches. Pitches were great and good size. Nice flowers and landscaping. The location really made it. A short drive off the ferry and amenities and lots of places of intetest only a short drive away. Couldn't recommend it more!

Welcoming orkney

Stayed one night and went back again. Welcoming and beautifully kept gardens with all needs thoughtfully provided. The views are spectacular and sunrise on our last morning was stunning. Perfect for exploring the south of the island. Would not hesitate to return.
