Easy access and very handy for New Quay

Access is easy. Good A road to Cross Inn village then 300 yards down minor road which (unlike most in the area) is 2-vehicle width most of its length to the CL entrance. CL access gate is angled so that even the largest outfits can drive straight in. Mrs Rees is very welcoming and came to speak several times telling us about good walks in the area. Cross Inn has a couple of well stocked general stores and being an A road has a bus service. The pub is at the crossroads only 300 yards away, the nearest shop just yards further. For walkers there is a network of minor roads starting from the CL and several public footpaths nearby though most head for the coast and the excellent Welsh coastal path. We booked mid-September for a mid-October stay. At the time of booking Mrs Rees said that sometimes she has to close during October because the ground is too wet. There had been two other bookings for when we were there but both cancelled, so we had the CL to ourselves. Mrs Rees decided to close the day we left. We had a lot of rain overnight one night. Pitch 2 was squelchy throughout our stay. We chose pitch 5 furthest from the gate and had no problems at all. It’s a very peaceful site. It was the hedge cutting period and the only noise we had was from a contractor cutting the hedges near the CL. He’d actually started on the hedge next to the CL before we’d arrived, but Mrs Rees had stopped him and sent him away because she didn’t want bits of wood all over the CL. She then collected the wood that had landed in the CL. This is a sheltered CL which means no sea views. It can be windy in this part of the world in October which is why we chose this one. It was our first visit to New Quay. What a charming place. We visited it three times during our stay. Unlike most seaside towns which close down after the summer holiday this was busy even mid-October. There are several carparks. Some charge a day-rate, others per hour. There is limited street parking. We were able to street park on two visits. We saw harbour porpoise during our first visit, seal on our second and dolphins on our third. Aberaeron is well work a visit as is Llangrannog.
