Our third visit to this lovely site - and we'll be back!

We have now stayed at Rivendell on three occasions, and for us it is just perfect. We really appreciate the serviced pitches and the fact that Sam has installed solar panels to help keep the cost down for Club members. The grass is regularly mown and cuttings collected and the waste area is always clean and tidy. It's so peaceful. The woodpecker was a regular visitor to our feeders and we often heard the owls at night. Even better, a badger came for a night visit once he discovered our peanut stash, and I'm glad he made such a determined effort to open the box as he woke us up and we got to see him! We've stayed on several pitches as on occasions we've stayed for the full 28 days but have moved pitches when needed. Pitch 1 is near the gate and we loved hearing the horses clip clopping along the road in the morning. Pitch 6 was our most recent, and we stayed on this both prior to school holidays and during the school holidays, so I was surprised to see a complaint about noise from another reviewer. The main time there was any noise from the adjacent play area was early evening when children were letting off steam before bed, and it was the nice noise of children enjoying themselves. And as Rivendell is not an adults only site, then there is the possibility of children being on site anyway. Our 3 grandchildren came for a week and had a whale of a time playing with other children on the site and making friends. We discovered the little indoor pool across the road at Croft Holiday Park. £3 for adults, £1.50 for children, under 3's free, for a 30 min session. They limit the number allowed in, but if it's not busy you can stay in longer. We were often the only ones there out of school holiday time, so it was like our own private pool! And it was a blessing on the rainy days when our grandchildren were staying. We'd like to thank Sam and Emma for their kindness, as my dad, who lived locally, died when we were there and they were so supportive. Sam is always on hand anyway, to ensure that everyone is OK, but his kindness was greatly appreciated. Sites which are extra-special often have repeat visitors, and there are lots here who we have bumped into again and again, which shows how good it is!!

Excellent site

Great value for money. Owner very welcoming and helpful for places of interest etc. Cannot fault at all. Be sure to stick to directions on website to avoid narrow lanes. The recommended route is excellent. Will be back.!

Excellent site and service

Sam has done a really good job here. The pitches are large and well maintained, and there is no doubt that having each pitch completely serviced is a luxury. We stayed the week before half-term. It was utterly peaceful, wonderful sunsets, with birdsong and rabbits to add the finishing touchwa. Sam was meticulous in keeping in touch beforehand, and checking during our week's stay. The only caveat is that the site can be quite windy, so a windbreak might be useful. But easily one of the nicest CLs we have stayed in. Highly recommended.

The best CL site we have ever stayed at.

This is a gem of a site, well placed for visiting Tenby, Saundersfoot, St Davids and surrounding area. The site is spotless with a elson point and refuge area that is always well kept at the top of the site away from pitches. Sam is a great host, he regularly checks in with campers to make sure there are no issues. The pitches are very large, hard standing with water, electricity, grey waste and have a very large grass area between each pitch. We liked it so much that we have already booked again for next year. Looking forward to going back Chris & Nicky

OK site but consider close proximity to children's play area

Just returned from an 8 night booking, but reluctantly had to leave after 3 nights because of loud children noise from dusk till dawn in the neighbouring fields static holiday sites play area, which was only 10 meters at most from our van on pitch-7. This would probably be less of an issue on the first few pitches, but certainly an issue for pitches 5 to 8, if like ourselves you prefer a little peace and quiet. The site was otherwise generally ok, however, most pitches only had hard standing for your van, and some awning pitching would require siting on newly prepared ground areas that are currently unfit for this purpose being just soiled areas recently seeded. Our neighbours on pitch-6 had to dismantle their awning at the first sign of wind as their pegs were being simply pulled out of the soil. This will obviously improve but will take time. There was inadequate refuge and recycling bins for eight pitches (despite being marketed and claiming to be a CL site), with just 1 small bin for each of general/card/bottles which resulted in them mostly been full and overflowing. However, this may have been the consequence of easter weekend collections, which may occur more frequently outside of this period. Then to top our stay off, albeit just bad luck for us, we had a non-UK 5-wheeler pitched as our other neighbour on pitch-8, so we experienced zero privacy as their rig opened onto and facing us :o(

Perfect site, considerate owners.

I decided upon this CL on the basis of walking the South Pembrokeshire coast, and was not disappointed. There are no toilets and showers, but individual taps on every level hardstanding pitch (including drainage for grey waste) ensures that using your own caravan facilities actually feels a better and more convenient experience. A large distance exists between pitches, and you have the immediate security on arrival knowing that your privacy cannot be married in any way because of it. The site gently slopes down directly to the West (hard standings correcting the slight slope to level pitching), which affords a fantastic sunset sky as the sun dips over the treeline in the distance there (park hitch pointing out in a UK van and you will directly face this). I did have concerns about possible noise from the nearby lane (I have an open pop top caravan and am a light sleeper), but despite being allocated the pitch furthest from the lane I needn't have had worries as the site is silent during the day and night. There is a more commercial site nextdoor, but this wasn't busy or anything of an issue during my stay. At night all I heard was a gently hooting owl. In short, this is a very quiet site, especially out of season. I suffered a knee injury 3 days before my departure date, and despite having paid in full by then, Sam was absolutely fantastically understanding and refunded the full amount back to me. Other than being on hand for any support or advice needed (and him having greeted me on my arrival), Sam left me in complete peace for my entire stay.. Which was a very lovely one up to my injury. I have rarely found a site so good and never found one that bettered this one in all honesty. Besides the fantastic owners I think the key to this was the privacy between pitches and the fact that all services being on your own pitch makes using your own caravan toilet and shower so easy. It can be surprisingly rare to find a CL that has clearly thought about what they might best wish for as guest, and I think Sam at Rivendell has achieved that... Massively recommended and I will return.

11 day stay

No wonder Rivendell has a 5 star rating from all the reviews. We have just arrived home from an 11 day stay at Sam's beautiful CL site not far from Tenby and all the surrounding amazing beaches. Nice easy access for a large outfit, spacious hardstanding pitches each with water, power and drainage. The site is perfect for dog owners, whether it be a 10 minute late evening walk around the site before bedtime, or walking from the site to the numerous footpaths nearby. The local bus shelter hosts a good selection of books to borrow should the weather turn. Sam should be very proud of this amazing CL site, I can't think of anything that could be improved! We look forward to returning soon.

Excellent site, peaceful, great customer service

We visit the area regularly but this was our first stay at Rivendell - but it won't be our last! Communication and booking were excellent, the site was easy to find and Sam came to see us shortly after arrival to check all was OK. He was very pleasant and helpful, giving local recommendations for places to visit and eat. The site was immaculate, with the grass cut regularly and cuttings removed but an area of long grass at the end for the wildlife and for children to play, with a dog walk around the outside. This is a fairly new site (set up during lockdown?) and Sam was very interested to know where we had stayed before and suggestions about what he could do to improve - not a lot, to be honest, it was near perfect! And this was on top of his day job!! The pitches were good hardstandings, level, fully serviced and the bin area and CDP were immaculately clean and tidy. It was very peaceful, and we barely heard a car all week. We put up our bird feeders and saw goldfinches, tits, robins, wrens, red kites and buzzards. In the early mornings and late evenings there were rabbits playing nearby. We did the Seal Safari from Tenby, which was excellent and can highly recommend the Jeffreyston Inn which served amazing food. This is one of those sites you don't really want to recommend in case it gets too popular and has no space for you in the future, but it really was excellent and will be our first choice on our next visit to the area. Sam works really hard and deserves to succeed with this lovely, peaceful site.

A very well maintained site

We stayed here for three nights to visits parts of south Pembrokeshire. Finding the site was easy. Booking was very efficient via the web site, with deposit paid and then final payment about a week before arrival. The confirmatory e mail gave us details of the site, and also our pitch number - so we knew where to go. The owner came and greeted us later in the day - he was very pleasant and helpful. Fully serviced pitches, recycling, loo disposal - all very clean. Grass well cut. Lots of space away from the vans for kids to play. Pleasant views from the site over the hills. Very quiet.

Lovely CL Site

Pitch 6 End of March 2022 We chose this CL site as it was in Pembrokeshire and we weren't disappointed. Each pitch has a water supply and grey water drainage which is a great help. Sam was very approachable and came and said hello to check we were ok. We would recommend to anyone. Only downside was pitch 6 was not quite level, but we managed to level the caravan so was fine.
