Stayed one night but wish I stayed more

A very quiet and peaceful site. I only stayed 1 night so didn't have much time to see the area apart from a nature reserve about a 20 minute cycle away. The surrounding area is fairly flat which would also improve cycling. Carisbrooke castle is nearby and is a must see when staying on the Isle of Wight. There is a information hut with lots of things to see and do in the area as well. I rate this 4 stars as the site didn't have a toilet and shower so is more suited to caravans and motor homes than camper vans.

Pleasant site

Just back from a weeks stay at Rodgebrook Farm CL. Very friendly greeting from Ed who gave us a small atlas of the island and told us about places of interest. Good fairly level grass pitches with own water supply. Grey waste in the hedge and adequate chemical disposal point. Good recycling facilities and a very handy information shed. Excellent dog walking field which is enclosed so they can be let off the lead to run around. The only downside is that Whitehouse Road is a very busy road so the site isn’t really peaceful which is a shame as this is no fault of the owners.

Wow, one of the best CL’s ever

What a wonderful place, run by wonder people…. Not sure what the other reviewer was moaning about, it a CL in the country, the site is slopped but set out in terraced which are nice and flat and plenty big enough. We have a 8ft wide twin axle buccaneer with awning and a VW Toureg all fitting on the pitch nicely. Ed and Carole were very welcoming, so nice, friendly and helpful. This certainly is one of the best CL’s we’ve stayed on ever…. Thank you so much From Lou, Veronica, Bandit & Lucca

what a find

A problem with the weather on arrival was very well sorted by Ed. and we spent a fantastic week at this excellent C.L. It is very well situated to visit the whole of the island and very peaceful for the two days we decided to stay at the site. The owners could not have been more helpful and Ed. provided us with some of his homegrown vegetables which was well appreciated and tasted wonderful. We decided to add two extra days to our trip and Ed. sorted out the change for the ferry for which we were grateful. This is a site we would thoroughly recommend to anyone and we will certainly be going back. Our thanks to Carol, ED. and John for a great welcome and being so kind and accommodating. We had our two retriever rescue dogs with us and the adjacent fields were enclosed so we were able to let them off their leads to have a good run.

Wonderful stay.....again

We have stayed at this site before, just after it opened and enjoyed a thoroughly excellent holiday. This year was just as brilliant as the first time, we stayed in late September. Ed and Carol make you really welcome when you arrive and this year we were greeted with home grown tomatoes and freshly pressed apple juice, really tasty. The pitches are fully serviced for water, waste and electricity. We would fully recommend this site, it’s probably the best CL we have ever stayed on.

This was our first visit but we have already booked our return.

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks at Rodgebrook Farm. We booked our visit based upon the Sites “Best Newcomer Award” and The great reviews from other members and we were not disappointed. On Initially booking our visit Ed offered to book our ferry crossings for us and did so at a great price. Due to Covid-19 our July visit was postponed so we rebooked for September and again Ed dealt with our ferry crossings and rearranged everything for us. We all (2 couples and 2 caravans) had a fabulous fortnight on site, The weather great, the facilities are excellent and it's easy to see why the best Newcomer in CL of the year award was achieved. All of the pitches are levelled out on a slightly sloping field with all the services provided, no water carrying or emptying for the whole stay. Ed and Carol were very helpful and friendly, the gifts of fresh fruit and veg were great. You can see the hard work that has gone into creating the site and hopefully They will see the justified rewards with more awards to come in the future. Definitely recommend this site and will be back soon (Already booked for next July).

Outstanding among CL sites.

Having decide that it was a time we went back to the Isle of Wight for our main holiday, (20 years since our last visit), we decided to book on a cl site for a change from our usual main club site holiday. Our first contact could not accommodate us, but directed us to contact Ed and Carole at Rodgerbrook., Big mistake on his part as we could not have been directed to more welcoming, friendly and well set up site. Ed very kindly, on finding we had not at that point booked our ferry over, offered to do the booking for us and did so very promptly for us at a better price than we could have got, many thanks for that Ed. Having just spent 17 nights at this site, we were warmly greeted by Ed and his son, who help us to settle in to our pitch. We were pleasantly surprised to find that all pitches had their individual water supply, easily accessed. We were given gifts of produce by Ed on a daily basis which was very generous of him as most other sites would try and sell you items!! We needed a quiet and restful holiday as my wife had recently been ill, well we certainly got that on this site. Ed and his family did not intrude in any way but they were always there if you wanted to talk or needed help in any form, and were always pleased to do so. The location of this site is very well situated to get to any part of the island in an easy and very short time. Someone else has already said this is a site you would always like to keep for youself, we totally agree. Ed, Carole and family, we will be back, assuming you can accommodate, (and want us). Long may you enjoy success with this site, it was genuinely a pleasure to stay with you. David & Wendy P.

So very disappointing

We spend a lot of time choosing the right CL for us and the reviews of other caravanners are part of this process. This CL has glowing reports and the bonus of having won an award. Ed, the owner, was very helpful in changing our ferry booking when we were delayed by a day. He met us when we arrived and helped with local information and maps. He also brought everyone a gift of home grown runner beans. Which was very kind of him, as was allowing us to run our dogs in his fields opposite the caravans. The pitches are fully serviced with two water taps and each pitch is terraced into one side of the site backing immediately onto a thick hedge which surrounds two sides of the site. The pitches are also level, although the awning area is rough and bumpy and quite small - caravan, awning and car is a tight fit even with a two berth 'van. There is good and free wifi. However, this is not a lawned site. It is a fairly rough, quite sloping field, albeit it is reasonably closely and regularly mown. The ground is uneven and tussocky and moles have been at work. We were rather taken aback when we drove onto the field; the site may well have looked different when first opened but to us it looked basic, scruffy and badly in need of some TLC. It wasn't quite our idea of an award winning site. There are major road works in Newport meaning that a great deal of local traffic is using Whitehouse Lane as a rat run. Thus the lane, a few metres away on the other side of the hedge, has become a very noisy main road for a good 12 hours each day. As someone on an adjoining pitch pointed out, 'I'm sure there is lovely bird song from this hedge, but the traffic is so loud I can't hear it'. The heavy traffic is likely to last for at least the rest of this year. Which was bad enough. When combined with the loud noise from the field directly behind the hedge to the rear of the pitches – which transpires to be a very large junk yard/tip, the owner of which runs a tracked digger as well as other loud machinery, it became like staying in the lorry park of a motorway service station. Ed told us he has no control over what happens in this yard, the noise from which, on one day, ran from 8.45am to past midnight, starting again at 8.30am the following morning. After five days we had had enough but were extremely fortunate to find another CL that had just had a cancellation and so, in the middle of pouring rain and for the very first time in all our years of caravanning, we packed up and fled. Although initially Ed had been sympathetic, we felt we left under a cloud and it was all very unhappy and uncomfortable. I have no idea why description and reality don't seem to match but in all conscience I simply cannot recommend this site. It's always sad to leave a less than glowing review and I accept that other people may disagree with me, but an award winning site? I'm afraid I don't get that.

Comment from the Club

The CL Owner has been in touch to address your concerns as they work so hard to make sure their site is well maintained and that their guests have the best possible experience when staying with them.

The CL Owner wants to clear up any misunderstanding and address your concerns. Please be assured his neighbour is not a scrap yard. On one occasion during your stay the neighbour had over-enthusiastically worked late into the night and kept people awake. The CL owner spoke to him and he agreed to stop when asked and also apologised. When the CL owner informed you of this he also offered you a refund.

It is worth noting when staying in rural areas that farmers may work late into the night with tractors, bringing in harvests. Farms are centres of activity and as such there can be associated noises.

Grass pitches can be vulnerable to the weather and other factors. Maintenance is carried out every year to the grass pitches to repair damages caused by hot weather, heavy vehicles and impermeable awning mats. This year the virus and associated lockdown played a role in blocking supplies of fertilisers and grass seed.

With regards to the roadworks, these are completely out of the CL Owners hands and are due to be completed by the end of the year.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at this lovely site but please be assured the CL Owner works very hard and has received wonderful recent feedback from members who have found their stay to be peaceful, with a number of reviews being featured on their Facebook Page which you can see here: https://www.facebook.com/RodgebrookFarm/?ref=page_internal
