Edge of the Estuary.

Roxton CL has a wonderful four decade plus history of providing a welcome stopover for Club Members. We booked by phone, a return call within half an hour of leaving a message, and the owners made sure we knew the Site offered just what we needed. It’s all grass pitches, plenty of room, firm under wheel, but the owners do provide track mats for those that want them. We had plenty of room and privacy in what is essentially a large lawned garden, with sunny spots or shady cover depending on what you want. Tap within 50 metres of all areas, likewise easy to use CDP point, and well organised and signed recycling centre. The site sits behind a gate, not locked, but a barrier nonetheless. There is a locked caravan storage area adjacent, but we found any disturbance minimal. Overall, the Site is very quiet, sheltered and full of birdsong. Location…..very rural, a mere 200 metres from the edge of the Humber, with footpaths/cycle paths along the waterfront, into Barton and beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring by bike, including a memorable ride across the Humber Bridge and back, a round trip of around 12 miles. Hull and Beverly are slightly further on, both with lots of interest. Another cycle ride took us to Thornton Abbey Gateshouse (currently closed EH) and then on around some of the WW2 history around Goxhill. Barton Upon Humber is a 10 minute drive away with the usual shops, supermarkets and garages. Dog owners, CL owners like dogs on leads or on tethers to make sure everyone enjoys their visit. There is a quiet lane just outside the gate, and then a short walk over a level crossing gets you all along the miles of coastal footpaths along the Humber. We really enjoyed this peaceful, pretty, well run CL, and it represented very good value for money for us. No wifi, but good phone signal for tethered usage. A very nice welcome from the owners. If you like grass, want an interesting location, want a relaxing break, then Roxton comes well recommended. Good for nature/ bird watching as well.
