Peaceful site near the Humber

This is a peaceful and relaxing site within a few hundred metres of the Humber. The site is mown grass with virtually flat pitches. A drive runs through the site so 3 pitches are one side and two the other. They are not marked out - but plenty of room. The drive goes to a storage compound at the rear of the site but there was little activity - even on a Sunday/Monday in August when you might expect vans returning. The site is surrounded with hedges & trees which act as shelter from winds off the Humber. A very warm welcome from Derrick & Jean Bennett, who provide a useful leaflet outlining local facilities. In three full days we didnt travel more than 10 miles from the site. Thornton Abbey & gateway are well worth a visit. Barrow has plenty of old buildings. Barton has lots of historic aspects and an industrial past - a historic centre, and e.g. the rope walk (rope making & local arts centre), Wilderspin school museum. In Barton, as a motorhomer, we found parking in the Baysgarth House museum, which is also worth visiting. There are co-ops in both Barrow & Barton. We found street parking near the church in Barrow. There is also a Tesco in Barton (near the Ropewalk) with motorhome access. There is plenty of walking along the Humber and several nature reserves in the area. Some sites e.g. museum are not open all week - so do your research before you go. We would stay here again if in the area.
