We booked this site in advance as we needed hard standing pitches for our campervans as the grassed areas are very bad in wet conditions. Arrived in the dark to only one hard standing pitch and it was too late to find somewhere else. One of the hard standing pitches was occupied by a motorhome that was possibly empty. The only other bit of hardstanding was the road which had a vehicle parked on it. We had no choice and had to put one of the units in front of the car after speaking to the owner of the car.
Good basic CL
Visited Harlow Carr and overnighted on the way to Wharfdale. Lovely basic CL with amazing views and local walks. Site spoilt by neighbour in a Bailey caravan with 2 unruly retrievers not on leads. Not everyone likes dogs. But apart from that would return.

It might depend on the weather
We took our single axle 7.3m caravan here in March 2023. Our dealings with the owner by email were helpful , although I misunderstood her advice to "stay on the road" as well as the hardstanding until half way through our stay. The spring rains had arrived and the grassed areas were wet and very soft, the grass was still uncut. I parked the caravan on the hardstanding with a fine view across the fields and hills. I parked the car half on the hardstanding in order to ensure one side of the wheels had grip. The first day I managed to leave without much trouble but the second day, after further rain, required some assistance. When we returned that evening I had understood the advice better and parked on the hardstanding "road" from the gate to the three hardstanding areas. Just as well, because the next day, after more rain, the grass was very soft and slippy.
The road from the main road to the site entrance is narrow and has two blind double bends and a narrow railway bridge with approaching bends. It is passable, as there is a double decker bus regularly along the road, but care (and a horn) is needed when towing a caravan. The site entrance took me by surprise and I had traffic behind me (this is not a very quiet country road). I did not take the line I ought to have done and had to abandon my first approach for fear of sliding the caravan into a deep ditch.
I met the owner and she is delightful but the site is starting to feel a little run down.
Visiting friends
We ( family of 3) stayed for two nights in February. We were seeing friends who lived nearby.
Bog standard site consisting of a field, with EHU, drinking water and a chemical toilet disposal area.
Loads of info left which would have been helpful if we hadn’t got friends nearby.
We got taxis back from Harrogate for about £13, but loads of walks nearby if that’s your thing.
Full of potential but disappointing
This CL is fairly well located and is a big well spaced out site with lovely views. It has EHU and basic facilities of Fresh Water, Chemical toilet disposal and bins (not a particularly clean area). Grey waste is to be dumped in the hedgerow which is not something I am ever happy doing. Unfortunately, although it wasn't a problem there were 6 units on site during our stay, one of which had apparently been there for over 4 weeks. I can't comment on the owners as we never saw them, contact was through email. When asking about paying we were told to pay cash or cheque at the Farm House. The grass had been cut just before we arrived and there was cuttings everywhere and these found there way into our car and caravan. The country road that it is next to seems to be a bit of a "rat run" and is pretty noisy although through the night was quiet.
I realise that my review sounds very negative but this site has so much potential but its clearly a side-line that the owners put minimum effort into. In saying that, we had an enjoyable stay and would return.
Super bank holiday chillin
Booked 3 nights bank holiday , basic facilities, ehu, water , Elsan but stunning scenery and peace and quiet. Weather was superb🌞. Pitches not all hard standing or even , only 4 other vans . Easy access into Harrogate and the Yorkshire show ground, pub a mile away serving good food , lovely walk up to Almscliffe craggs. Defo will be back for a total chill weekend
Just the spot.
I've stayed here in all weather and all the seasons of the year. I love this little CL and can't get enough of it. The site itself is basic which I like. The owners are around if needed but leave you alone to enjoy the beauty of this place. The information box left by the owner has lots of interesting walks and other things to do around and about. The locals are friendly, and super helpful. There is a lovely couple who live next to the site selling fresh free range eggs and vegetables which taste extra nice. I will be back soon and I would recommend to anyone wanting a rural time away from busy life.
Disappointing
We stayed on this site for 4 nights in appalling weather and conditions. The owners we’re nowhere to be found, except a woman on a horse walked around, but never introduced herself. The site is high up a narrow winding lane and meeting vehicles coming the other way can be daunt. Having explained our unit is over 8m in length I was told to find a spot on the hard standing. When we arrived another caravan and car was already set up and their car was parked on the hard standing. Over the weekend the site became very much a quagmire and the mud was thick and clinging to everything. We did leave early due to the weather and ground conditions but suggested that they should close it when the weather is bad. I am sorry to say we cannot recommend this site as it is basically a spare bit of land that is not suitable for use in inclement weather.
Gem of a site!
We came across this site when our daughter moved to Harrogate 2 years ago and have used it many times. Quiet, with fantastic views and many lovely numerous walks (maps/details supplied by owner) from the site.
Harrogate is a bit of a nightmare for parking, plus traffic in/out of the town centre can be a nightmare at times. We found the best way when visiting in town, is to park on streets around the A61 Leeds rd area adjacent to the M&S foodhall, (5 mins driving from site) then catch the number 36 bus there and back into the town. The number 36 service is remarkable runs from Leeds to Ripon, calling at Harrogate bus station every 10mins. We took the opportunity to visit both Leeds and Ripon. A bonus is the chippy on the street behind M&S has got to be the best in Yorkshire!
