Rural idyll Nr Buntingford / Baldock and Royston

Stayed here for two weeks in a caravan then for another week with my newly purchased Motorhome to road test everything. Mike the owner couldn't have been more helpful, he's a delight. Every peg has electricity and there is a small amount of hardstanding which could possibly hold two rigs if well parked but only really suitable for one large motorhome. Quite, very rural and full of wildlife - pheasants running around everywhere. Mike does have two lovely dogs which were very friendly - as I'm not a dog owner I can't comment as to their suitability around other dogs. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay, even in winter.

You must love dogs to stay here

The owner has 2 lovely dogs that roam the site and farm so expect some dogs mess etc. if you’re afraid of dogs definitely avoid this site as the dogs will come up to caravans and people to say hello. Toilet disposal point not good because of the way the hose is mounted it’s difficult to rinse. On the plus side it’s away from the road and there aren’t many sites in this area.

Peaceful site

We stayed on this site for 2 nights and we will definitely be using it again. As we ate breakfast one morning we saw rabbits, deer, pheasants and a muntjack! It is a very peaceful and pleasant site, and you could purchase fresh eggs and apple juice from an honesty box. The owners were very helpful and accommodating too. The only reason I could not give this site five stars would be the very bumpy lane leading to the site.

Response from the Club

Many thanks for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. The CL owner has been in touch to advise that there are speedbumps along this lane with signs advising to drive at 10mph.

Tranquility at its Best

Just the place to go to for peace and quiet, away from the noise and rush of modern day life. Tranquility personified. Although a working farm, the CL site is a field set apart to relax and enjoy the countryside. Michael is full of knowledge relating to the wildlife around this part of the countryside. It was a joy to see Red Kites, Buzzards, and many of the smaller bird species all around the site. Not to be outdone there was the daily parade of Pheasants and rabbits. We were fortunate to see 2 spectacular sunsets through the trees. Some may consider this site to be basic, but that is the joy of visiting CL sites. We were left alone to enjoy the nature around us, in the knowledge that should there be a problem or issue, Michael was readily available. Oh, my wife reminded me not to forget the eggs for sale!

Update to the last review

As the last review was a while ago, I thought I should update to prove that this CL is still there! Peace and quiet is definitely on the menu. The field is mainly deep clover, so this is not one of the manicured sites, but still lovely. The views are great -from the adjacent field, Michael is so friendly and helpful and loves a chat. The Moon and Stars is doing food everyday now. Good, old fashioned style of CL.

A weekend with red kites

What a nice little site. The owner is very friendly, he let us know where the walks are, there is a bridle path that runs next to the site, and from there you can access many more public footpaths. One path goes up to the church, not the prettiest of churches, but the graveyard has many very old headstones which make for interesting reading. Anyway, the site itself is a square field to one side of the farm and outbuildings. It hadn't been mown because of the lateness in the season, they close next week. The site is very peaceful, very little road noise apart from motorbikes roaring up the A507. There are red kites patrolling the area and also a buzzard, many pheasants, owls (there are two that patrol the hedgerow next to where we were pitched, and many other birds to watch. There is of course fresh water and an elsan point in a fenced in area which is next to the entrance. There is a rustic feel about the farm, Michael, the owner, is endeavouring to encourage various species of birds to visit so there are areas where there are plenty of wild flowers. In fact, the site itself is covered in clover, apparently it looks pretty when in flower and encourages bees (he has a beehive in a corner somewhere). The bridle way to the left goes to the pub, the Moon & Stars (turn left onto the road and walk along for a short while) and also to the Mill End plant nursery. The other direction goes into the next village of Redhill (no pub there now) We will hopefully find a weekend to re-visit in the summer. Nice to find somewhere so quiet and where you are left to enjoy yourself without children running around since it is adult only. Recommended
