Fantastic CL

Had a fantastic long week (9 nights) at this lovely CL. Great location, easy access from the main road, just a stones throw from Harrogate, great for visting places like Brimham Rocks and Fountains Abbey, with places like Malham Cove, Sutton Bank and York just a little further afield. We were the only ones there last week as the ground was too wet to use the grass, so they'd not taken any more bookings, but kindly let us stay on an area of hard standing at the top of the field, as we'd booked a while ago. Absolutely gorgeous views for miles!! The site is immaculate, short cut grass on a level lawned field. No toilet/shower facilities, but does have EHU. Now £22 per night. Run by a delightful couple, a proper no frills CL like I remember them as a child. There was only minor distant road noise. The rooster and the occasional tractor, which is to be expected on a working farm, didn't bother us at all. The kids loved the 5 friendly ducks and the sheep in the field next door. And the yummy eggs for sale too. My youngest cried when we left 😢 We plan to return next year!

Lovely site. Under rated.

This little gem is beautiful, quiet, tranquil, other people have commented on road noise however we did not notice this at all. Well kept site, lovely clean mowed pitches. Im surprised for a bank holiday weekend we were the only ones here. There is a small snug with books available to buy £0.50p proceeds to the hospice. I thought this a lovely idea. The elsan point could do with some disinfectant but it diddnt bother us, the handle was clean and freah water was available to rinse after use. There is also an off road walk to the pub through fields and took about 6 mins. The local pub has beautiful food and good priced beer. Very accomodating for dogs. All in all this site is perfect for a CL i feel it is under valued on here.

Traffic noise, smoke and noisy cockerels

Have been a member of camc for many years and have always used CLs since 1986 preferring peace and quiet they usually provide. Read the reviews and thought this looked perfect! Advertised price of £12 per night is out of date like so many and it’s now £22 per night. Why the club don’t annually update prices is beyond me! The views and location for Harrogate are perfect but we won’t be returning again. Unfortunately there is a fair amount of noise from the A59 and traffic accelerating up the hill past the site which we could of accepted on its own. What is unacceptable though is the steady stream of commercial vehicles daily bringing waste to burn at the back of the sheds - fires burned day and night the whole time we were there - everything in the caravan smells of smoke and will have to be removed and cleaned. The weather was hot but opening vents meant choking on smoke. Every day around dawn 2 cockerels compete to wake everyone which might not be too bad in winter but on the longest day didn’t help either and once they start it’s constant!

Our Favourite CL.

We have been coming to this site for many years now and it's just like coming home. We're sure of a warm welcome, beautiful views and access to many places worth a visit, including the stunning RHS Harlow Carr just a few miles away.We came for the Harrogate Spring Flower show which is just down the road.We were sad to see that someone said the toilet emptying facilities were disgusting, were they talking about the same place? Everything is kept very well and the facilities and the field are tended to daily from what we've seen.We saw Red Kites over the C L this visit and were surrounded by proud ewes with new lambs too- heaven.Keep up the good work Mr and Mrs Phillips!

Enjoyed a week at this lovely CL

We've just stayed for a week at this lovely CL with easy access from the A59, a huge, beautifully mown field to pitch in, with daffodils around the edge, views for miles around, and walks direct from the site. We were lucky also to see the young lambs playing together and skipping around! Mr and Mrs Phillips are friendly and helpful. The site is very handy for Harrogate but also for the many other attractions in the area. We would definitely stay again if in the area. A note on an earlier review which said the toilet emptying facility was 'disgusting'... I'm pleased I took no notice of it. You empty your chemical toilet into a plastic dustbin, but most of the bottom has been cut away so it's pretty easy to direct waste through the very large opening and into the tank below. It's also very easy to use the hose provided to swill away any waste which remains afterwards. I hate to think how many potential visitors who would have loved this site decided to go elsewhere because of that review... you missed a great CL!

Farm CL Heaven

Stayed on here for 5 days after a week at a busy and hectic York Rowntree. Originally we were booked at Dykes Bottom Farm but they were closed when we arrived due to self isolating. They told us to try out luck at Shutt Nook and our luck was in as the friendly owners were happy to accommodate us on spec! What a find... We had a superb 5 nights here. The site is really spacious and due to its location the views over the Nidd Valley and beyond are panoramic and spectacular - the sunset over the Dales is something to behold. The site itself is well kept with weed-free, well mowed lawns and being a working farm has cows and sheep on all of the surrounding fields to keep you company. They have free-roaming hens who will pay you a visit and the HUGE free range eggs they produce, which the farmer sells are some of the best we've ever had. The farmer is a really helpful and friendly chap - once he knew we had dogs he allowed us to let them free roam on his "spare" field which had no livestock on. You are not short of things to do - Harrogate is the obvious draw but it there is so much more. Pateley Bridge, Knaresborough and Ripon are close and would recommend a drive into the dales and around the reservoirs for some more picture perfect scenery. With or without four legged friends the site is great for walking miles and miles. Hampwsthwaite at the bottom of the hill has a handy shop-cum-cafe and the Joiners Arms next to it has amazing food and one of the best pints of Timothy Taylor's Landlord I've ever tasted! Closer to the site is The Nelson Inn, which is less than 5 minutes walk away and can be safely reached by using the footpath that passes though the site. This is a family friendly pub/restaurant. Cannot recommend this CL enough - if planning to stay in the area it should be top of the list. We'll certainly be back...

Nice site & location but could be much better.

Very easy access from A 59, & on arrival were told to use any of the spacious available pitches. Grass is cut short & views from the site are beautiful & extensive. Two water taps near the farm, & grey water into the hedgerow. BUT the toilet emptying facility was the most disgusting I've seen in many years of using CL's. The waste literally had to be poured into a dustbin with a small hole in the bottom, around which other caravanner's faeces were still lying. Not the fault of the caravanners, as it was almost impossible to swill away with the hose provided.

What a view !

Just returned from a glorious week at this site. Mr & Mrs Phillips made us most welcome and provided useful local information. The view from the site is panoramic with amazing sunsets. The site is well placed for access to many places of interest and easy to find off the A59, which does not cause a house problem in our opinion. The grass is kept cut with clippings collected. All in all a great site, will decided return.

Great first experience

Coming to caravans late in life this is my first time on a CL and what an experience. The owners could not be more friendly and helpful. The site is ideal for Harrogate but we felt the car necessary. The view from the farm is stunning as it sits quite high. Beautiful lawns on which to set up and plenty of space. Will certainly be back.

A lovely quiet site.

Stayed at shutt nook farm at the end of June, our first time on a CL, and we will definitely be staying on more. Lovely and peaceful, great views, owners lovely and very helpful. Grass kept nice and short. A little car noise but no problem. 20 minutes walk to the nearest village. 10 minutes in the car to Harrogate and knaresborough.
