Great peaceful site

After having initial issues with where we parked all was resolved. Had a great hard standing pitch near the toilet block. Susan was very helpful. Easy to find with the directions given. Would definitely recommend this site.

Restful site

We stayed Spring 2023. From this site (in Essex) you can see Suffolk and Cambridgeshire as the three counties meet close by! I note somebody complained about tree damag on arriving, well yes it is a bit tight, but with an SUV and a large caravan I drove in without any problem. We were last there when it was run the the parents of the current site owner, there have been changes to space out the caravans in the intervening years and I think it was a good move. I understand the village pub has re-opened as a community run business with limited opening. Neighbouring Steeple Bumpstead has a village pub serving excellent lunches, and in nearby Sturmur is a very nice pub; while Haverhill has all the shops and restaurant chains. My only criticism of this site is that is is under the flight path for Stanstead airport and the aircraft noise can be disturbing if you are sensitive to noise. Stayed before, will stay again some time !

A Wonderful Site!

We stayed on Slate Hall Cl for 4 nights and found it to be our perfect site. Well spaced out pitches each with electricity and water. Very clean, nice toilet and shower (paid £1 per shower which gives plenty of time). Recycling area very tidy and well marked out. There is plenty of choice of grass or hard standing pitches. Lovely scenery across the fields. Although we didn't meet Susan, mostly due to the weather or us being out, we did communicate via text and email. She kindly offered for us to stay as long as we wanted on our departure day, which we really appreciated. The area has lots and lots of walking through villages and farms, perfect if you like a walk/hike/ramble. The local pub is friendly, close and does lovely food. Steeple Bumpstead is near by and also has a couple of friendly pubs and a garage with a well stocked shop. All in all a very good, enjoyable stay and we will definitely be returning.

Pretty site, but we had a problem with tree damaging the caravan at entrance to the site

Good communication prior to arrival and helpful with advice for local bus and taxis that we wanted. Has a shower, but informed it was out of action, when we driving to the site. Was not a problem as we use our own shower. No one to greet, which was okay, accept would have been useful as could help to guide us onto the field. Our caravan is 7ft wide, so this maybe something to consider, if anyone has something similar. ( I think ii will mention the size of our caravan in the future) . It was very unfortunate that a tree damaged a rare corner on the top of caravan. We used the site to go to a concert at Audley End, which was about 9 miles away Plenty of space between pitches and nice and level

Our 4th Visit and we'll keep coming back!

We live in Ireland and have come over to visit friends in Haverhill every year except for the Covid lockdown years. We always stop at this site as it is perfect for what we want. We always get a friendly welcome and would recommend this site. We have a large tag axle motorhome and we have no bother parking. The only worry we have about giving a good review is that this site will become so popular that there might not be any room for us next year!

Great couple of nights at Slate Hall

Just spent a Friday & Saturday night her and would thoroughly recommend. As a previous review says, the pitches are pretty level and we were right next to the barley field with a lovely view. There are many walks directly from the site and despite the weather being awful we still managed to get out for a great couple of rambles with the dogs. An added bonus is the Three Horseshoes pub in the village. This is about a 10 minute walk away and a real gem. Great selection of beers/wine and the food is fantastic. The site owner is one of the most efficient communicators I have come across. She responded quickly to emails and gave us all the information we needed. Having a loo and a shower on site is a bonus if you don't always want to use your own facilities.

Fabulous family weekend

We arrived at slate hall and was met by a lovely lady who we gave us the freedom to pick a pitch. The field is spacious and charming with tall trees to one side and open farm fields the other two sides. The fourth side is the farm side. The field is very well kept and for such a large field very flat, which was perfect for levelling the caravan. The facilities are basic but clean and that's all you need. The grandson loved every minute of his little holiday and gave his parents a chilled time, so that was a perfect weekend. We would not hesitate to return as we have found a perfect little gem of a cheap place to pitch in tranquil surroundings. There's plenty to see and do within the area and we decided that the weekend would not be an expensive weekend so took the family out for a nice long walk along some lovely trails and finished of with a nice lunch. The weather was very nice and warm and plenty of sun.

A lovely four night stay.

We had a lovely stay at this CL. A warm welcome on arrival and clean well maintained facilities. We didn't experience any farm noises or farm smells either. Will return if we are in the area again.

2 Nights

The site has 10 numbered pitches, half are well spaced grass and half are less well spaced hard standing. We were required to phone in advance to obtain our pitch number. The large square site is surrounded on 2 sides by high conifers and on 2 sides by the high popular trees seen in the photos which along with a barn filled high with straw bales and a large trailer restricts visibility of the surrounding countryside. The photos suggest a pronounced slope to the site which is not the case. TV reception is reported as 'fair' but we found it good with our omnidirectional aerial. The reported ‘information room’ is a small basket adjacent to the shower with a handful of leaflets in it. The only local leaflet was a map of walks around Helion Bumstead produced by the parish council which was a blow up of the 1:25k OS map. There appeared to be 4 village pubs within an hour’s walk but only the Fox & Hounds at Steeple Bumpstead (45 mins) was open for lunch. The closest pub in Hellion Bumpstead is a community pub with limited opening. Steeple Bumpstead is much larger and has a Jet petrol station that doubles up as a convenience store and post office. We took our motorhome to the Tesco supermarket in the town of Haverhill. Had we stayed longer we might have caught the bus from Hellion Bumpstead to Haverhill in one direction or Saffron Waldon in the other. Bus times are shown at the bus stops in Hellion Bumpstead. We only stayed two nights but the impression we gained is that if we had stayed longer we would have run out of things to do without driving somewhere. During the day there was some farmyard (incl. pig) and aircraft noise but it didn't trouble us on what we considered to be a quiet site. Slate Hall farm includes caravan and motorhome storage.

Great Stay

Stayed here for one evening and had a fantastic time. Communication was excellent and the site has great views over fields especially on pitches 1&2. It is a working pig farm but this was no bother all. The owners even kindly let us stay till later in the afternoon on departure. We shall return 😀
