Lovely friendly welcome from owner. Gorgeous views from the top of the cliffs. Went for a walk down the road to knockinaam beach which was beautiful, you can go on the footpath from the site across the fields which is shorter but as it was lambing season and we had dogs we took the road instead. Portpatrick is a lovely scenic harbour worth a visit. Would return when in area again.

Amazing !!

Have thoroughly enjoyed a recent 2 week stay here and can concur with other reviews (except Ailsa's). John is the most hospitable man you could wish to meet, ably backed up and watched over by son Ian. The weather was most unseasonably poor with wind and rain the whole time we were here, but did not detract from a super venue. We also will be back.

For a perfectly quiet time.

We have been coming here since the owners Ian and John first opened the site, some 11 years ago. The site has grown in facilities over the years. It is the prefect spot for a quiet and peaceful retreat from the modern world. Both John and Ian are welcoming and very friendly, they will try to accommodate you in almost every way. The views over towards Ireland are exceptional and depending on the clarity of the weather with binoculars you can see clearly along the Ireland coast. Portpatrick is only about 4 or so miles away and Stranraer about 6. There are plenty of amazing gardens such as Glenwhan to visit. It is a quiet area and after a week or so the batteries are refreshed for the Rat Race. The weather can be windy and wet at times, but that is the nature of our British Isles! If you want a boring site with no views go elsewhere.

Amazing location - but...

Amazing views, the field was spacious and well maintained and the welcome was friendly and relaxed. Do not however, choose this site if you require decent facilities as the toilet block is very dingy and grubby. Also, we were disappointed that the spacious pitch that we had on day 1, became quite crowded as the owners crammed in 7 caravans and 1 campervan. What happened to the 5 van rule on CL`s? There are also 3 wind turbines in the next field overlooking the site. It was windy when we visited and all 3 were operative 24hrs and they do make some noise.

a real scottish gem

This has to be one of the best cls I have stayed on wonderful views john is a real gentlenman nice facilities we will be back.

Thank You John!

This place is a real GEM! Five of us stayed here on three pitches, one car & caravan & two small motorhomes over the Whit week of 2013. The Americans would probably describe the place as "Awesome", they're probably right! The views are superb looking over to Belfast, the site is quiet & quite remote with toilets & free showers a real bonus for the likes of us that don't have one in the motorhome. John was amazing, genial, friendly, helpful & full of fun, we all felt like we'd known him for years. It's a great base for touring but some form of motorised transport is reccomended due to the hills & remotness. We did cycle to Portpatrick one evening, which is very close, to sample the local bars, but it was quite a slog back! What more can I say... GO THERE.... you won't be disappointed! I know we'll be going back!

Perfect!

We have just spent two weeks on this site, it was superb. The position is excellent with great views across to Ireland. It is surrounded by farmland, well away from the Rat race! Portpatrick is a short trip away by car and Stranraer is a about a fifteen to twenty minute drive for supplies. It is a perfect location for sight seeing and discovering the Dunfries and Galloway area. A really big thank you to John for making us feel so welcome!! We will definitely be returning!,

One of the best CL,s

We have used CL,s extensively for many years and this is probably the best we have found. Facilities are excellent. Views are fantastic and John who runs the site is a gem. An excellent base for The Rhins and Machars areas and easy access to ferries to Northern Ireland.

A wee cracker

This is a really pleasant CL with the most wonderful and genuine welcome you could wish for from the proprietors father, John. The site has a variety of pitching options with some on fairly sloping ground. However the owner appears to have a good selection of wood in a range of sizes to cover your needs. No matter where you set up a view over the sea to the Irish coast is assured. The facilities are situated centrally on the site with 'Mare & Fillies' 'Stallion & Colts' and Laundry room each housed separately. The showers are generously free while a metered charge applies to washing machine and drier. Waste and chemical disposal point is situated next to toilet area with fresh water just a few yards away. The grounds are very well kept with some nice shrubbery to admire. Being on a working farm provides its own entertainment by way of watching the sheep and cattle pit their wits against the farm staff. As the site is in a rural location the best way to get around is by car as there are many villages, beaches, gardens and other places of interest to be found heading in all directions. So if you fancy a nice relaxed spot to pitch up give this 'wee cracker' a go. Well done Ian and your dad John.

Breath of fresh air

This is a great site - very peaceful (apart from the sheep which seemed very agitated and bleated all night on our first night there), with great views over to the coast of Northern Ireland and a real bonus on a CL - toilets and showers. There is also a laundry room which would be useful for washing dishes had the water heater on the tap been working. The welcome was very warm, from a very nice and friendly elderly chap (guessing he's the original farmer, now retired) who obviously enjoyed chatting with the caravanners there and that was a really nice touch. Although there are obviously no play facilities on a site of this kind, my young daughter was happy to watch the goats in the upper field and kick a ball around with a friendly dog from another caravan. Even if the site had been full there would still have been enough space for her to stretch her legs without getting in anyone's way. The only downside is the apparent requirement to drive everywhere as we usually like to walk or cycle to the nearest town when caravanning. There may well be a footpath to Portpatrick, which is two miles away, but we didn't find it. Not sure about buses either. It would be possible to cycle into Portpatrick for anyone not daunted by the A77, which is not too busy at that point, but more than I would be comfortable taking a small child on. Which is a shame as the area boasts some amazing quiet roads ideal for cycling. Anyway, we will be back as soon as we can manage!
