Highly recommend

Stayed here at the end of the year when the weather was rough. It only added to the beauty of the scenery, with spectacular uninterrupted views of the bay and hills. Very well maintained site, with all we needed for our motorhome. The owners were so friendly and helpful, making us feel so welcome to their site. I note an earlier review stating that the owners weren’t available, which I think needs context. This is a working farm, where the owners supply all you need and give you the peace to enjoy the experience. They were very easily located next to the site as you arrive and we can’t praise them highly enough for the experience they provided. It is authentic countryside, with panoramic views, which we appreciated. Thank you, we will definitely return.

Quiet site, well positioned for touring Orkney Mainland

The owners were away so we were greeted by their helpful friend who was looking after the site. There are great views over the sea to neighbouring islands and all site facilities were easy to use and accessible. We visited Birsay and the island beyond it (check tide times as you walk over a causeway to the island) and up to the lighthouse, then walked along cliffs. Evie bakery honesty shop definitely worth a visit, we got chocolate croissants freshly baked! We walked our dogs around the site for quick wees etc but needed to drive out for a longer dog walk which was no problem considering the site's location and choice of places to visit.

A beautiful location...

Stonehigh is in a fantastic location and the scenery is wonderful. The site is very nice and has all you could need, but we did not receive the welcome other reviewers have suggested. The owners didn't come to find us, we had to go to them the following day and although we were there for 5 nights, we didn't see them again. The webpage suggests that there is a dog walk from the site and a motorhome drive over waste facility - this isn't correct. When we asked the owners about the dog walk, we were told there wasn't one. They also didn't really want us to take the dogs down a track off the site because it is farm land, so not such a dog friendly site as suggested on the webpage. The waste disposal requires a waste pipe as the drain is under the waste tap. This wasn't a particular issue for us but the information is misleading, and if we hadn't had a detachable waste hose, I'm not sure how we would have emptied the tank! Be aware that there is a wind turbine nearby and in normal wind conditions it isn't a problem but when the winds are strong, as it was for the time we were there, it can be consistently noisy! Overall, the site is very nice but we wouldn't visit again due to the lack of a dog walk area.

Great Views!

Stonehigh is a lovely CL with fantastic views over the Eynhallow Sound to Rousay and the neighbouring islands. Expect high winds but the views and sunsets more than make up for it. Stonehigh is an ideal base for visiting Orkney. What more do you need for a relaxing time.

Wonderful CL

We originally booked for this CL in 2020, but of course everything was messed up. So we re-booked for 2021 and even then Jim and Liz were able to alter our bookings to meet our Covis vaccination timetable. We arrived on 1st August with a stay of 17 nights booked as our starting period. We then had another period of 3 nights booked for early September. Our welcome on the first Sunday was very friendly, and we were made to feel at home right away. We settled in and found all of the amenities well laid out. At the end of our first stay, we departed late into the evening, (All agreed with Jim and Liz) to get the overnight ferry to Shetland - it departs at 11:45pm from just outside Kirkwall. After a couple of weeks visiting Shetland we returned to Stonehigh again, this time arriving around 11:00pm, which was Shetland ferry arrival time. We were surprised that nobody heard us arrive, as it was so quiet that we were worried our return would wake others up. We can only say that the CL is one that we will return to, if we can get back to Orkney again. Thank you Jim and Liz.

Outstanding Views and Site

We stayed here in June 2021 for two weeks with our two spaniels. We were greeted by Liz and Jim who were very welcoming, helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The site is perfect, everything you want for a peaceful holiday. The views are outstanding and it is perfectly located for visiting the whole island . The site is situated on the west side of the island, which is by far the most scenic side and also close to the majority of heritage sites and places of interest. The bird variety and wildife are amazing, there are also many hides on the island. We enjoyed the bakery in Eviedale, that also make along with their delicious bread, amazing Pizzas at the weekends. We would definitely recommend this site to everyone and will be going back on our next trip to The Orkney islands.

Unforgettable views and perfect location

We can't rate this site highly enough having just left from a 4 night stay. The view is absolutely stunning from its elevated position and it's a great location on the island, not far from anything. We were made extremely welcome and everything is well run. We will never forget our stay there. A few minutes away is the Eviedale Bistro and Bakery and their sour dough bread and pizza is excellent. Pizzas are only made on a Friday and Saturday evening currently and you must book a few days ahead to get a slot. It really only takes a few minutes to drive back to your pitch to enjoy your pizza with that view!

Brilliant CL

We have just recently spent a week at the CL for the second year in a row. The site is set out really well with quality facilities. The owners are really pleasant but not intrusive. The sunsets are amazing and all five pitches have great views of the sea and islands. Orkney itself is amazing and a must do trip. We have been many years and never run out of places to visit and walks to do.

Perfect CL

Received a warm friendly welcome from the owners and told to choose any pitch. The pitches are all hard standing with EHU and the fresh water tap was easy accessible for our motorhome just across from the pitches. We stayed at this site after visiting Skara Brae and the Kirbuster Farm museum. There are lots of other things to see in the area.I can imagine this site has amazing views but unfortunately we had rain & mist the day we stayed. If we return to Orkney (which I know we will) we would definitely stay here again.
