Excellent site for exploring the surrounding area.
A first time to this area, we were very happy to stay at the site. The welcome was friendly and helpful. We were given the choice of two pitches, overlooking fields and the distance Solent. And we could choose which way we'd like to put the 'van, to suit. The waste facility was nearby, hidden behind an attractive fence with flowering pots and the water was a little distance beyond. 3 bins as previously described. Recycling would have been nice but we just took it all home and did it there.
The pitches were pretty level and a good distance apart. The permanent vans were dotted around and there were others in storge but they did not distract from the pretty site. The EHU was charged at cost for what we used - £6 for our 4 night stay which was fine.
The bus stop was very close with buses every hour to either Calshott Beacjh one way or Hythe and Southampton the other. The pretty cove of Ashletts Creek was a 10-15 min walk away with a lovely pub on the waterside overlooking the boats and old Mill. From there, there is a walk all the way to Calshott which took me 40 mins to walk. And that is certainly worth a visit with a small castle, a pebble beach, pretty painted beach hut and the history of the area celebrated in the Activity Centre - pop in to the reception area for information and there is a cafe there too. The path passes the old derelect Power Station which is now used to make wind turbine blades. seeing them so close was an experience.
There was some noise from the Industry on the river. But it was not too loud and depended on the wind direction. And the New Forest was only a short walk away. With plenty to see and do, we would certainly recommend this site.
