Fabulous CL

Stayed here for the Jubilee bank holiday. Fabulous CL with a magnificent outlook across the valley. Nicely kept with sensible length grass and plenty of room for a good gap to neighbouring outfits. Water taps provided by each electric point - we didn't realise this until after we'd pitched, and didn't fancy moving again to plumb in. Very sloping so bring levelling ramps - our caravan is a 26' twin axle and the rear was pretty much on the ground, and jockey wheel on a (one of the many provided by the site) breeze-block. Be warned that access is from a very narrow lane (not far from the main road, so this is not an issue), and is tight (but possible) for a longer van to get through the gate. We followed the owner's advise and used the second entrance as it has space to swing right before turning in left, however this entrance would be improved greatly by having the bushes cut back a bit - the gateway is made about 2' narrower either side by the foliage. Definitely on our list to return to.

Lovely site , wonderful views.

This is a lovely site. Beautiful views. Good walking. Good for dogs. Sloping site so ramps essential. Utilities good. Water and electric close to pitches. Long stretch so pitches well spaced. Access is along a narrow lane, but it really is not a problem. No traffic and passing places. This is Devon and if your Sat. Nav is anything like ours this is the norm! Follow the owners instructions. She is a delight and checks that all is well, …even when she herself was on holiday.Thoroughly recommended

Campervan Visit May 2021

This review needs to be taken in the context of the unusually wet conditions in mid May. Very peaceful site with wonderful views over East Hill. Good access to extensive footpath network to the west (the local woodlands resplendent with bluebells). Access eastwards is more difficult and roundabout as walking down the main road is not advised. Parallel parking to the hedge made levelling reasonably easy. We were very lucky to be able to get on & off the pitch as the road up to the site was awash with water draining off the fields. Fortunately there is a small amount of hardcore inside the gate so we had some purchase to drive over the grass onto the first pitch without getting stuck. Although we didn't see the owners, we knew that they were available to help if needed (with tractor!) and only a short walk away. Electric & water on each pitch. The chemical toilet emptying chamber was full, presumably the septic tank was affected by all the rain. We would be happy to return in drier conditions!!

WOW

Wow - it’s fabulous here. The view is amazing and it’s so quiet. Monique is lovely and really helpful. Not really much more to say - we absolutely loved staying here and it’s the best site we have stayed at.

Wow

I concur with all the Previous positive Reviews. This is heaven on Earth! If you find the access difficult then you’ve either gone the wrong way or you can’t drive.

A Tranquil Haven

If you prefer CL's to formal Club Sites you cannot be disappointed here. If you choose a country site in rural Devon and you are not expecting narrow lanes, then more of your own thought and preparation may be required. As a previous reviewer has commented, site access is perfectly clear and well sign-posted and easily accessed with careful driving ( on our recent stay a simply enormous motor-home had managed it, so car and caravan is no problem ). Although slightly sloping, there are plenty of useful chocks in the hedge bottom available for simple levelling and the stunning views from the site make any slight inconvenience of this more than worthwhile. The site itself is large and allows plenty of space for each guest, with power and water points at each pitch and a modern and very user-friendly cassette emptying point. We enjoyed some amazing sunsets above the facing valley, which has some superb woodland walks too, and with little or no light-spill, clear nights are a starlit revelation, allowing views of passing space stations and satellites from time to time as well as all the usual constellations. With easy access to the Devon and Dorset coastal towns as well as superb countryside all around, this makes for one of our favourite CL's and thoroughly to be recommended. Owner Monique is a delight too, and will trundle up regularly in her car from her farm down the lane to see that all is well and that you are enjoying your stay. A second delightful stay for us will certainly not be the last.

Absolutely fantastic site!!

Absolutely fantastic site! Some of the other negative reviews are very unfair. Easy access to /from the site with our single axel van. Toilet emptying, rubbish and recycling facilities. Electric hook up and water to each pitch (I need to get my van a hose pipe!) The field is on a slight slope but we parked diagonally and used a chock and we were fine! (Did notice blocks in the hedge for anyone who needed them) Stayed for a week 2 adults, 1 child and 3 dogs. 3 of which nights we had weather warnings and it was very wet and windy! Take extra tent pegs and storm straps if there’s any chance of bad weather! Will definitely use this site again! Ps take binoculars for the view! Thanks.

Great - if you're a mountain goat!

This site is, indeed, quiet and peaceful. However, what they fail to tell you is that the approach lane is a good half mile of single track road with high-sided hedgerows, and no suitable passing places to accommodate a car and caravan. Whilst the entrance is adequate (the usual gate size), it is very awkward to negotiate because of the width of the lane, so entering and leaving with a caravan requires some skill! And then there's the slope - the owners' explanation in the club sites book states it is 'part-sloping', which is untrue - it is all on a very steep bank. We spent at least 2 hours trying to site the caravan and get it level, and although we had chocks and blocks, they weren't enough. Not what you want when you've been driving some way and all you want is to get set up and put the kettle on! Unfortunately, our experience was worsened by the fact that when we arrived, we were caravan number SEVEN, on a site for five vans, meaning there was no hook-up available. On enquiry with other caravan owners, it appeared one caravan was planning to leave, but not for another several hours (ie tea-time - what?), so we eventually got fed up and went out for a drive. Fortunately on our return, that caravan had left, so a hook-up was available. However, six caravans were on the site the whole time we were there, and having booked and paid a deposit months earlier, we were a bit miffed by our experience. The site owner is at the farm way back at the entrance to the lane, meaning a long walk or a ride in the car, and when we called, an elderly gentlemen was the only person available, who didn't know anything about the site. I would not recommend this site, unless you're an intrepid traveller! I would certainly not return.

Peaceful site with fantastic views

Visited on first weekend of summer holidays and was concerned about how busy places might be - not here! Lovely and peaceful, lots of space and only two other vans. Access was absolutely fine for our small motorhome but can see how it could be challenging for larger outfits! Sloping field but fine with chocks. I love a site that has dog walking options and this one is perfect - a very hot dog was happy to find the river at the bottom of the field! Planning to walk to Sidmouth and get a taxi back whilst here - a 1.5 hour walk I think. A little expensive but I guess you always pay a little more for views. Electric, water, waste facilities all good, clean and tidy. Will definitely visit again.
