Wonderful CL

Stayed here for 3 nights with our new caravan - absolutely wonderful with stunning views across the valley, especially from the upper level! Pitches are level with a generous amount of space and each pitch has EHU, water & grey water drainage. Each level has its own rubbish/recycling bin and chemical toilet disposal point, nicely screened off fencing. Electricity is based on a fair usage limit of 10Kw per day with the excess payable on check out - we thought this was a reasonable approach given the cost of electricity. The whole booking process was very easy with lots of useful information provided about local pubs & restaurants, places to visit etc. All our emails to the site were answered really quickly which is always helpful. The site is well positioned for visits to Matlock, Bakewell & Ashbourne with Chesterfield only being 30 minutes or so away. Another site to go on our list of must return to! Many thanks Joolz & Tim...

Great site

A great base for exploring the local area. Site as good as others have described with excellent communication and information from the owners prior to arrival. We cycled from the site to the Matlock to Rowsley cycle path which follows the Peak Railway route, and also explored the cycle paths through the woodland on Farley Moor. Following Storm Babet the walks by the dams and waterfalls were spectacular. Butchers in Darley Dale is well worth a visit for quality and variety.

Stunning site

A beautiful location with amazing views and sunsets. So peaceful. Pitches are well spaced out. We didn’t get to say hello to the owners which is a pity but we had all the instructions we needed. Highly recommend and we will return at some point in the future. So pleased we got to see a few sunsets before the warmer weather gave way to the rain.

Somewhere a little different.

perched n the side of a hill overlooking open countryside, this CL is set on 2 levels, accessed by a rather steep hill. I was not sure if my front wheel drive tow vehicle would be able to get back up on departure. Not a problem, as Tim was out of action, Joolz arranged for one of the farm guys to come and do it. Everyone was very friendly and the view from the site made this a worthwhile stay. Matlock Bath with its cable car and various other attractions on The Heights of Abraham is well worth a visit.

stunning views

We recently visited this site for a few days and what views. The site is fully serviced as mentioned which is a real bonus. The slope to the caravan area is quite steep and in real need of pothole filling, but have been told this is being dealt with. If you have a large unit without a mover I would imagine it quite difficult to site, but not impossible. Each pitch is well spaced and hardstanding We would recommend heavy duty pegs for awning and skirt, as the ground is stony and hard packed, my husband got quite a sweat on!! It is a working farm so some noise from farm machinery could occasionally be heard but nothing to spoil your holiday apart from that a very quiet site. We found walks not far from site and visited Matlock, Bakewell on market day (Monday), and Carsington reservoir which has walks a childrens area and water sports, and a nice cafe. Would go back to this site, but would worry if windy as so exposed to give you that wonderful view.

Amazing place with stunning views

We only had 4 nights here, wish we would have booked for longer. We were pleasantly greeted and advised on all the facilities and surrounding area. What a view we had from pitch 1, stunning. The area was peaceful, good for walking around and visiting nearby towns. We would definitely return and recommend this site.

Tax Farm

We stayed at Tax Farm recently. The pitches are level wit water and grey waste disposal at each pitch. The views from each pitch are exceptional over the valley. There are plenty of walks and places to visit in the area, including Chatsworth House. The owners were very helpful, with nothing to much trouble. Tax Farm is a CL that's well worth a visit.

A gem of a find and lived up to all our expectations.

We’ve just returned from a two weeks stay at Tax Farm Cl, Matlock, Derbyshire. Tax Farm is a two tier, all gravel, five pitch site. All the pitches are fully serviced, including a grey water drain. There are no toilets or showers on site, so you do need to be self sufficient. The views from the site are wonderful and I’m sure even better in the summer. The road down from the main road, is quite bumpy and steep, but the owner will tow you back up to the main road if you ask. Dogs are allowed, but do need to be kept on a lead and they ask they you do not encourage their dogs to visit. We had very mixed weather, but as always we found plenty of things to do. We are members of English Heritage, The National Trust and Historic Houses. Tax Farm is ideally placed to visit Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall, which are all worth a visit. We visited Sutton Scarsdale Hall which is ruin, Eyam village and it’s small, but informative museum, Eyam Hall, Haddon Hall, The National Tramways Museum, Cromford Mills and canal, Renishaw Hall, family home of the Sitwells(no photos allowed inside), Welbeck Abbey and Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. There are a couple of local Indian Restaurants that will deliver to the site. We opted to dine in at The Shalimar. The food and service was excellent, but we thought that it was expensive. All in all an excellent stay and we are hoping to go back next year in the summer and get some walking in. Great communication from the owners too.

What a view!!

We stayed at Tax Farm for 3 weeks in Oct 2022, and loved it! The views are amazing, even when the weather isn't so good, but when it is, and the sun shines ...WOW!! On the way to Middleton top Engine House (great!) we came across some Landrovers off-roading which was great to watch, and the people were so friendly, welcoming us in to watch. Excellent!! We had great days out at Crich Tramway Museum, Cromford Mill, Ecclesbourne Steam Railway, NT Hardwick Hall, Abrahams Heights, a trip on the Birdswood Canal Boat, went to the Matlock Bath Illuminations, walked at Dovedale and Ilam Park, and loads more. So much to see and do! Our favourite pub was the Boat Inn, Cromford - friendly and with excellent food but look out for the Wednesday Steak Night when prices are very good!! We had a really lovely stay here, and would come back. Thank you for the tow out, and apologies for the late review but still working out how to do this on the new CAMC site, so resorted to the old site!!

Simply Stunning

Arrive at this wonderful CL and take a moment to absorb the stunning views. It's a wonderful site, which we first discovered a year ago and have visited a number of times since. There's plenty to do in the area - Bakewell, Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Matlock to name but a few or you can just sit on site and drink in the landscape in front of you. Pitches are on 2 levels, fully serviced with water and grey waste and the toilet disposal (green only) has a perfectly positioned rinsing tap with decent pressure and no silly piece of hose pipe that club sites insist on. With the exception of maybe a distant tractor by day, or the odd owl at night you can hear a pin drop and really feel that you've escaped day to day hassles. Arrival for us was straight forward from the M1 via Chesterfield and there was Sainsbury's (Matlock) and Aldi (Bakewell) where we were able to easily park the motorhome to pick up groceries. The owners are on hand to help if required and booking\amending bookings etc is straightforward. As our pitch wasn't booked the following night, Joolz accommodated us staying late (until 6pm if you wish) for an extra £10. This stretched out weekend that bit further! Phone coverage is good with fast 4g, but put that phone down and stare through the van windows instead!
