Ease of arrival/welcome

Lovely spot, angry hosts.

Had a tel call a few days before we were due to arrive, to say they had double booked but could put us on a pitch at end. This turned out to be a car park space. I expressed disapointment when i saw it, but the owners then got angry and very abusive, despite my repeated requests for them to calm down, at one point we were told to go! Stayed just the night, and not the 3 booked, appreciate the owners may be stressed due to the virus, but abusing the guests is totally unacceptable, especially as the lady went off and told the people in the next van that we had been difficult and were causing her big problems.

Mr Davis came up to the house, I advised him I was just getting dressed as I’d not long got out the shower after cleaning the pods. Mr Davis expressed his disappointment at the situation. I got quite upset while explaining to Mr Davis it was entirely my fault for making a mistake and not carrying forward a longer stay booking from August into September for 3 days, which in turn meant I’d over booked for 2nd & 3rd September (they were due to arrive 2nd). As soon as I realised my mistake on 30th August  we called and advised your wife Jennifer of our mistake.  We advised that thankfully there is a spare EHU & Tap (given the current situation with Covid having your own tap you would think would be great) and that there was additional hard standing (for additional cars/ trailers - comfortably fits 2 4x4s and is in prime position for the sunset). At no point during the telephone conversation was this was an issue. On hindsight we should of just cancelled your reservation at this point.
While Mr Davis was up at the house I even offered to go and ask 1 of the 4 caravans currently on site (3 of which had awnings up) if they would mind swapping with Mr  Davis. The other unit still to arrive was a LWB camper. Mr & Mrs Davis  were in a VW campervan.

Steve then went down to check that Mr & Mrs Davis were okay & had found everything okay. Mr Davis was standing outside his VW camper and even said to Steve I’m sorry for upsetting your partner. When Jennifer heard Steve’s voice she flung open the door on the camper and expressed her dissatisfaction at the situation. Steve advised them they were fully aware of the situation in advance and they still had EHU, their own tap, hard standing and fantastic views. Steve advised that if they weren’t happy then leave.

When I went down later to check in the LWB camper (we had also spoken to on 30th August to make aware of my mistake of having 6 on) I thought il go over and speak to Jennifer and apologise directly for the mistake I’d made and give them a free night. I shouldn’t of bothered her facial expressions said it all! Everyone else who was on site was made aware of the situation in advance that I had made a mistake and forgot to carry over a booking from August to September. No one else on site at the time had any issue with this situation and even said it happens often on CL sites.
The following morning we were cleaning the pods, Steve seen Mr Davis coming up the track to the house so went up to see him. Mr Davis advised he was leaving, Steve advised him he didn’t want the pitch fee for the 1 night. Mr Davis left the pitch fees for the 1 night under a stone.

As you are fully aware being CAMC members CL sites have max 5 pitches. When we called to advise you on our mistake at having 6 on - I don’t know what you were expecting when you arrived? In the grand scheme of it you probably done better than some sites offer as a pitch. Hard standing, EHU, own tap & stunning view.
We have prided ourselves this season on not over loading our site and having no more than 5 units in on our 0.8 acre site!  It was unfortunate for ourselves that the 1 time I make a human mistake with the diary, it was with yourselves. I don’t know what else we could of done given the situation to make you happy - it was very frustrating.

We have stayed at this CL every year since it opened, and it is our favourite CL on the whole network (but ssshh... don’t tell everybody 😂 ). Stunning views, well-managed and led, and two hosts who cannot do enough for you, as well as being two of the nicest people you could wish to meet. We do a 1000 mile round trip to this site at least once a year and it is worth every mile on the road! They had it superbly set up this year to respond to COvID and ensured a very high cleaning standard was kept. The site is impeccable and they work so hard to maintain high standards. Keep up the great work Kirsty and Steve. Can’t wait for our next return visit. Andrew and Sue.

Since this review was posted the Crofter's Snug has new hosts Karina and Jo, and throughout our recent stay there they were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We will be back again soon.
