Ease of arrival/welcome

Poor customer service

We arrived at the Durham ox intending to stay 5 nights but in the evening when we returned to the van the electric was off. We rang the phone number provided and were told someone would put it back on. Knowing a fair bit about electric fault finding we swapped cables in case it was that and turned the other appliances off. Despite this it went off again and again. We were told that we must have something that was tripping it. We were also told the pub was shut the next day so no one would be there to attend to the problem. We asked for our money back and were still charged full price for a cold night without electric. We moved to glebe farm a few miles away in the morning and had no trouble with our electrical connection and received a warm friendly welcome from the lady there. We enjoyed our 4 nights there very much and would return. Wouldn't suffer the wooden personal service at the Durham ox if you paid us. By the way we have had the vans electrics tested and guess what they are fine!

Having been on site mid December when electric unavailable for a couple of days I don't recall my being thrilled at paying for EHU in site fees and using gas instead for best part of 48 hours. smile

If the OP felt that there was little prospect of the problem being resolved and little interest shown by the site I can understand his point of view.

If the initial site fees included (say) £4 for Electric and instead OP was spending £6 to £8 a day on gas I doubt the prospect of 5 nights was too appealing JVB. wink

  1. I was just commenting on the sentence "after a cold night" not the rest of the poor response from the owners

I know you were JVB. The OP did not say it was cold in the caravan though. Just 'a cold night without electric'.
