Lovely little site

Stayed here for 2nights. Owner was helpful and accommodating. A very tight turn to get into but the first pitch has great views over the reservoir. Very peaceful and relaxing with a nice little coffee shop at the nurseries too.would definitely recommend

Good area

Stayed here for two nights. As a plus the site is ideally located for cycling and walking. We cycled into Leicester along National Cycle Route 63 then along to Watermead Country Park along the completely off road cycle trail. At £15 a night the price of this site is reasonable. However it is cramped. Only 4 pitches were occupied, had a 5th unit turned up there would of been a problem. Dog fouling is an issue. Traffic noise was more than we are usually prepared to tolerate. So all in all, an area we are glad we visited but not a site that would usually suit us.

Super site and super location

This is a lovely CL in some stunning countryside not that far from the City of Leicester. We stayed whilst attending a wedding in nearby Swithland. The CL is within a family run nursery. On arrival we were met by one of the family who took me into the shop to check in and pay and gave me an information sheet with everything you needed to know about the site. The gates are locked at night but there is a footpath to leave the site on foot and you have the gate code if you need to drive out or return late. This is not the largest CL but another review suggesting that the pitches were too close together is simply not the case in my view. Each pitch has a hook-up and some also have a water tap. From pitch number 1 there is a fantastic view across Thornton reservoir which offers some beautiful walks if you have dogs with you as we did. The CL is next to a minor road and, yes, cars do drive along it, but there is really not much traffic and the site is very quiet and peaceful, with the sounds of nature (birds and geese) on the reservoir a delightful plus. I had a long chat with the owner in the morning and he could not have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful. We lived in Leicestershire for over 10 years and I never knew about this area, but now I have discovered it I will definitely return and stay again at Thornton Nurseries. The nursey is well worth a look round too, the majority of their plants for sale are grown on-site.

Small secluded gem

This site is a hidden gem , it is right in the middle of some of the most beautiful walking and cycling country, it’s not a large site , but a cosy one, Great for people who like to talk to their fellow neighbours. I can’t understand people who have put bad reviews for this place. Everyone who we saw managed to drive in and out with ease and we were here on May Day week end. It’s an ideal site for us as the owner doesn’t bother you, it reminds me of sites when people just got on with it, we loved it and wish there were more sites like this one. It would make a great overnight for people travelling up or down the country to split a journey or for people to visit local attractions, oh and if you like plants, the attached nursery is full of reasonably priced plants and even has a small cafe! What’s not to like. A CL as they should be simple

Helpful site owner but badly laid out site.

If you have a small out fit (base camp or camper van) this site is worth looking at this site. If you have a caravan without motor movers don’t even think about it. The pitches are very close together I’m surprised it passed fire regulations. The access is a nightmare. The hairpin bend referred to in another review is the Turn into the car park. Entrance and exit are really difficult and nothing is clearly sign posted. Lots of noise both from people on the road and geese. Poor toilet emptying point. On the positive side wonderful location, stunning reservoir opposite etc.

Ideal location for the Reservoir but otherwise a bit disappointing!

Arrival was marred by parked cars for the nursery (in their car park) which added to already difficult access ( as the way we came from meant negotiating a hair pin bend). The nursery and site owner although polite gave us no direction to the site or its facilities, we were left to find these ourselves! The site was a little noisy from traffic outside. On leaving the site we encountered difficulties getting up the steep hill off the site due to the surface being constructed of loose gravel. We eventually had to detach car from caravan, thank goodness for the Motor Mover! We also need to point out that exit from the nursery gate can be challenging due to parked cars on the road and a large boulder on the other side (at Nursery entrance)! The plus side was that we were kindly allowed to remain on site till late afternoon to enjoy the Bank Holiday sunshine.

A really poor site

We visited this site when calling on friends nearby. I really dont understand the positive reviews. We were treated offhand at reception and not given any information just told the site was down the bottom. This turned out to be a narrow track with poor access to an overgrown lumpy site. It had contractor vans already set up for long time. Nothing had been trimmed anywhere and the whole place was shabby. The elsan emptying was poor and dont even think of going near the toilet. Access to the site from the road is bad. I had to go and get people from the cafe to move their cars to even get in. Local walks around the reservoir are good and away from the site is lovely countryside. The site has obviously never been inspected in years and should really be removed. i could go on but suffice to say it makes cross when I think of all the lovely sites we have on the network,

Well positioned discrete Cl site

Well positioned site , opposite Thornton reservoir, offering good local walks. The site is compact and secluded , although close to the road it is well concealed and very private.

Could do with some improvement

We spent 2 nights at this CL which was full. Our pitch had a small grass area which had not been cut recently and had grass cuttings etc dumped nearby. Being a working nursery the gates were locked outside business hours but you can get out on foot. Thornton Reservoir is just over the road and is a very pleasant walk with dogs. Had to tell the owner that the chemical disposal tank was overflowing, got the impression that they don't go down to the CL part that often. Don't think we will return.
