Perfect CL!

Access- very easy following the directions and clealr signs from either end of the access road, on which there is one awkward bend from the Northern approach. Access onto the site is easy with room to reverse onto the pitches. Site - Clearly some pitches are better suited to campervans/motorhomes, but we chose the biggest pitch which was ample for a caravan/awning. Pitches require a little forward/aft correction, but level side-to-side. EHU, Grey waste/CDP and fresh water all on hand and neat/clean. The views from the site are fabulous! Orkney is directly in front of you with Dunnet head to the right and St john's Point and Stroma to the right. The welcome from Jo was super friendly and helpful and she was often round the site for a wave or a chat. EHU is charged 'at cost' per unit at the end of your stay, we don't mind this and bearing in mind I don't thik it got over 5 Celcius the whole time we were there, so the CH was on all evening and most of one day and set low at night, it cost us about £7 per day, in the summer it would be far less. Area - The site's website is very helpful for things to do etc, we visited Bucolie Castle, Wick, Duncansby Head, John-o-Groats, Dunnet Head and on a rainy day, had lunch at the nearby Annie's Bakery, which is fabulous!! We also waked left from the site to the coast with views of Castle of Mey and right to Scotland Haven, where we sat watching two otters for almost an hour and St John's Head, where puffins were feeding in the sea. This site is perfection in a CL, the views and location are wonderful, the site itself is well laid out and maintained and the owners are friendly and helpful.

A Little Gem!!

On line booking, payment and subsequent email communication was very straightforward. Greeted by Jo, the owner, when we arrived who was super friendly and helpful about where to walk dogs etc. We only stayed for one night whilst touring around but would definitely revisit. Hardstanding pitches with views out to The Orkneys. Easy walk to the Castle of Mey - unfortunately it was closed when we were there. Very peaceful with hardly any passing traffic. Suited us perfectly. At the time of our visit (April 2023), the cost for two adults was £20. Electricity is paid separately by cash (make sure you have some change) and was charged at 39p per unit.

Our perfect site

Lovely clean tidy site, good sized hard standing pitches. . What a welcome from Jo, so friendly and helpful with local information. Beautiful setting with views to Orkney and those sunsets. Lovely walk with the dogs to St Johns point and to the beach past Castle May. Very peaceful and watching the varieties of seabirds was a pleasure. Highly recommended.

A must stay!

We stayed at Crofter’Snug for 4 nights and it is peace on earth. Fabulous scenery overlooking Pentland Firth and Orkney. Lovely local walk as recommended by Jo. Dunnet Head and Duncansby Head easily accessible by bike. Jo came to greet us and is super friendly and informative. All facilities spotless and easy to use. Lovely to have individual water taps and grey waste. Really quiet nights except for elements! Thoroughly recommend staying a few nights to recharge.

Time

The Crofters Snug. The name alone conjures up cosy contentment. Being at one with yourself, and the nature around you. Peace, and tranquillity. The ability to appreciate your surroundings. All these things and more, are in abundance at Crofters Snug. The friendliness of Jo, and Karina, the hard work they put in each day, to make your stay all that you hoped for, and more. Our stay at Crofters Snug was all the above. It has been a while since we enjoyed the total relaxation this CL offers. The views over the Pentland Firth are just amazing. The odd sighting of the ferry wending its way to the Orkney islands, the multitude of birds, all searching for a safe haven to lay their eggs, and hatch their chicks. Above all the amazing spectacle of the Aurora Borealis, an experience one can only hope to enjoy in a lifetime. All this and more we took away with us when we left. Crofters Snug, for us, was truly magical. Jo, and Karina, the perfect hosts. Thank you both for sharing your little piece of heaven. Lin & Tony + Scatty. x

Location. Location. Location!

I was lucky enough to stay here for ten nights in late September into October. A view to die for over the Pentland Firth. A lovely warm welcome and all facilities that I needed. Their website is a great resource for finding local walks and places of interest. The walk down to the Men of Mey stack well worth the effort and great views from east through north and to the west. Castle of Mey worth a visit to the tearooms alone, and Annie’s Bakery do a mean bacon waffle. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and intend to return as soon as I can next year. Thank you Jo and Karina

Wonderful site, fantastic views

We've now stayed here twice and wouldn't hesitate to return again. The site overlooks the ever changing vistas of the Pentland Firth, it's a really clean and very well maintained site, the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. There are great walks from the site to the Castle Mey area, as well as a beach where we saw seals on the rocks! The site is also very well positioned if you're getting the ferry from Gills Bay to St Margaret's Hope on Orkney.

Perfect.

There’s not much more that can be said about this perfect site, that other reviewers haven’t already said. Fantastic greeting on arrival. Well spaced and clearly marked pitches, each offering 16a ehu and water. Gravel roads and hard standings. Easy access to footpaths and attractions. But the views. Wow is all we can say! If only they were all to this standard. Thanks for providing a great CL.

Run out of superlatives

Spent 4 days in August just soaking up the views. Faultless. Lovely walks to the beach and other places of interests nearby. Unexpected bonus of secure dog exercising field on site. Such a friendly welcome from Jo and ever so helpful. Should be on your list of must visit sites.

Stunning CL

We enjoyed 6 nights on this site in early July 2022. Jo could not have made us feel more welcome. The site is immaculate and the views are stunning. The Castle of Mey is just 20 minutes walk or a few minutes drive away and a must to visit. Being just 2 miles from the ferry to Orkney gave us a chance to enjoy a wonderful day trip there. Thurso has all the amenities you need and to see the puffins flying from Dunnet Head was tremendous. We have a twin axle caravan and access was straight forward. Cannot rate this site highly enough. Thank you Jo and Karina.
