Vishwell farm

The site consists of 3 fields, separated by post and rail fencing. One of these fields is adjacent to the separate hard standing, making 4 in all. There are toilets and showers but they are a bit antiquated and could probably benefit from a refurb. Acess to Cardiff is easy, with a bus stop a couple of minutes walk away. The same road in the opposite direction leads to Barry Island or the coast road to places like Llantwit Major and St Ogmore, with its large dog friendly beach. The Wenvoe arms in the village is also dog friendly and does good food. When we arrived, given the different fields, we asked where to pitch and were told to go anywhere. We were also told that the site has planning permission for 15 vans. We've stayed on a mixed CL/commercial site before, but usually there's some separation between the two. On both of the Saturday nights we were there the 15 van limit was exceeded, and that's without factoring in the 2 caravans (both definately in use) tucked away behind the hedge. There is plenty of space at the site, so this wasn't an issue, but if you are looking to book what members would understand to be a CL I'd suggest that this isn't the place for you.

Ideal location for Cardiff

Very well maintained site. Good bus service to Cardiff and Barry with bus stop less than 10 mins walk away. Garden centre with pleasant cafe nearby as well. Peaceful with lovely views over countryside.

Nice site but unwelcoming

Having pre booked we arrived at the site to find no one was available to welcome us or site us. We hung around, rang the bell a number of times but no one appeared. There was no note for us to advise re pitching so eventually we found a pitch and set up. We didn’t see anyone other than fellow campers throughout our 3 night stay and paid by filling out an envelope in the ‘porch’ and posting through the letter box as still no answer to bell. In all our years of staying on such sites we have never not met the owners or caretakers. Having said that the site suited our needs. The bus stop 10 mins walk away runs every half hour to Cardiff. There is a Tesco extra 2 miles away. Toilets are clean if a bit run down. No loo paper or hand drying facilities. Shower looked grim and would cost 50p so used our own facilities.

Chilled

Easy access into the site. Mr Phillips was a pleasure to deal with. Toilet block is very basic but clean. 50p for showers is no problem (especially as this heatwave is encouraging water conservation). Proper recycling on site. Will definitely return

A good stopping point

We stayed here for 10 nights in July 2016 to continue walking the Wales Coast Path. It is ideally situated for this. There is a large shopping centre nearby, and a couple of pubs that can be walked to. The shower and toilet block were good, although not cleaned very often and you had to pay for the showers (which we hate!) and no toilet paper supplied, so you had to keep remembering to take your own! We normally chose a hard standing pitch, but this area is pretty dismal, more suited to camper vans who just pitch up for a night. The two fields were well maintained, but not sure how it would be in high season (we went before the school holidays!). Very peaceful site though.

Relaxed weekend

Well laid out site with plenty of space to choose, certainly no problem regarding the size of our unit. Toilet & shower block doe's let them down, could do with an upgrade. Could put you off staying to long if you have limited facilities on board. Our dog appreciated the relax feel of the site.

GOOD CL FOR CARDIFF AND BARRY

Nice CL with loads of space. Owner leaves you to get on with it and was pleasant upon arrival. Not stayed on many CL'S but it was comfortable and had all it needed. Plenty of pitches to choose from. Owner allowed us to stay on site for last day until 9pm so we could travel back overnight, and would not take a fee which was very nice. Its the little touches like this that make you want to return!!! Easy to find and great location

When is a CL not a CL

In the true spirit of things this is not a CL. He has full planning for 15 vans. There are 3 grass areas of around 0.25 acre and 1 hard standing area of the same size. 1 grass area is for the CL but any fencing is only 1 bar fencing around 18 inches high. So, in reality this is a commercial site of just over an acre. Having said all that, the access was good, the welcome warm and we were given excellent information. The 30 minute bus ride into Cardiff goes from a bus stop 200m away. 2 x Showers (50p but doesn't go too far) and 3 x toilets are OK but really could do with an upgrade now he has full planning for so many vans.

Your names down but your not coming in!

I was asked to move my Motorhome out of the CL field and onto the regular campsite as other users might complain because my Motorhome looks like a van. I'm a Caravan Club member but not allowed to stay on the CL. I didn't much fancy taking my awning down, moving and re-erecting. I had reserved 2 weeks but took my money back and went to a less discriminating CL where I was made to feel very welcome and encouraged to return. I've never come across a Caravan Club CL site where Caravan Club members are not welcome before. All very bizarre!!
