Amazing views, great CL

We arrived on the Mayday bank holiday. Our first thought was what a magnificent views of Blencathra. The CL is situated between Penrith and Keswick so you have a good choice of shopping opportunities in both towns. Access is over a cattle grid and through an unfenced sheep field which was also full of very young lambs. It was delightful to see them though you do have to be careful as they do have a tendency to be quite skittish and run in front of the car if you spook them. There is a gate at the other end of the field to go through. This was fine for our caravan but we did think it might be a bit tight for an 8` wide caravan. The site is then to the right past some old farm buildings. You just need to be a bit careful at this point but it is not difficult to negotiate at all. Just a note here, don't be tempted to come via the small road leading from Troutbeck. This is single track road and there is a hump back bridge followed by a steep right turn. I am sure a caravan would ground on the bridge. Waste grey water is just disposed of by a pipe to the rough grass at the sides of the site so that is one less job to do. The chemical disposal point is a simple cover over a sewer. The site had not long reopened when we visited. Phillip, was very friendly and approachable, he visited about twice a day. He was telling us he is renovating the old farmhouse and will be moving in shortly. The pitches are all hardstanding though some people did opt to park on the grass instead and turned their caravan around to get a good view. TV reception was good when we realised you had to change your aerial to a vertical position. You need to point your aerial towards Keswick. Mobile reception was also good on Vodafone and EE. We loved this site and will come back next time we visit the North Lakes. It was a ideally located to reach Keswick, Ullswater and the Borrowdale Valley.
