Soothes the Soul

If you like friendly owners that are not in your face, beautiful surroundings, peace, a dark sky with no site lights to spoil it and the luxurious addition of have a lovely swimming pool (extra charge) all to yourself, then this is the site for you! Add to that the surrounding area which, is full of lovely places to visit! Aldeburgh and Southwold are like going back in time with promenades unspoiled by fairgrounds and slot machines. There are castles, forests and lovely almost deserted beaches. Halesworth is delightful with a lovely pedestrian centre, plenty of cafes and The Black Dog Deli (cakes)! Brilliant butchers in Bramfield if you like the odd Barby and a really decent Co Op that has a great range of “Cook Food” (if you haven’t tried their amazing cook from frozen ready meals you are missing out on a treat). Finally if it’s entertainment you’re after the “Lattitude festival takes place 20 minutes down the road and the Thorington Theatre (outdoor, in the woods) is just 4.6 miles away!

Peaceful hideaway

A huge thank you to the owners for opening their home and creating such a calm and welcoming CL site! A happy and peaceful place to really unwind! Felt luxurious to be able to swim in the families pool a lovely thing for the owners to share! We will most definitely be back! Nearby places to visit, Southwold with it's shops, bakers, brewery & beach. Dunwich village has a free car park with toilets and cafe right on the beach. Dunwich Heath is National Trust & has car parking, cafe & toilets and you can access RSPB Minsmere! Saxmundham, Framlingham are also close by.

Lovely views

Stayed here for a week in July, easy to find as there is a large CL sign at the bottom of the drive. Site is sloped so you do need to level the caravan. Views are amazing definite Constable. The pool was fab £15 hour for sole use. My husband and myself had a great time swimming and playing with all the donut lilos. Due to COVID additional £2 per time cleaning charge for the toilet/shower which we thought was a bit steep. We did use the games room and buy some eggs and delicious homemade ice cream by the rental cottages. Location is close to Walpole so you can walk into the village turn left down the track infront of the pitches but no amenities apart from a kids playground, although we did get some bargains at the Saturday boot sale! On the village notice boards there is a number to hire e-bikes for £5 day/£25 week which we thought wasn’t bad, but we’ve just invested in our own so spent a lot of the time cycling around the lovely quiet roads.

My Favourite site in the UK

We stayed for the whole of September 2019 and still didn’t want to go home! It’s taken time to get into doing the review due to illness. We’ve been going to this site for a few years now and always more than once a year! Lucy and John are lovely people and have often accommodated us at short notice. They are not in your face all the time making you feel like you’re being watched! Just turn up pitch and do your own thing. The grass is always beautifully cut and not left with cuttings to walk in your van. The views are amazing, just very “Constable“ especially down the little Lane where we walk our dog. On this occasion we stayed on the site a lot as it was such lovely weather and we were very comfortable. I swim every day when I’m there and it’s an added bonus to have the pool to myself, it’s lovely. There is ice cream to purchase from a fridge in the laundry, they make it here and it’s delicious! The local town of Halesworth is really traditional with a pedestrian only town centre. There is everything you need including Chemist, Doctor, Vet and Garden Centre, and if you like white wine the co-op keep it all in the fridge so it’s already chilled! There is an amazing butcher in nearby Bramfield who also sells other stuff. We like to travel to Southwold and Aldeburgh (old charm) and a little bit further to Lowestoft (worth it). Above all though we come here for the site, we have spent days on end not even going out and we love it! You can be sure of a friendly atmosphere that is open and not overbaring: but I don’t know why I’m doing this review because what I really want is to keep it all to myself!

Disappointing

A beautiful placed site and well maintained! On arrival for us and friends with their van, it was overbooked so we had no elec first night. Following morning friends had to re pitch after a van left so we then had electric. Unfortunately no sign of owners. Pool is lovely and looked after. Sloping pitch which we was aware of... but very windy all week. Not owners fault, Still beautiful views. When you click on link for website.. swimming pool for hire, games room and astro pitch. According to owner because we don't pay £1000 a week on cottage and only pay £15 A night we are not allowed to use games room or pitch. Slightly belittled! Even thou website states £12 + £1 awning.. it is £15 for a night. Unfortunately 2nd evening farm dog roams free (doesn't like being on lead we were told) helped herself to food from our table! Cottage guests liked exercising their dogs off lead on so field.. no pick up of deposits, or from farm dog! Very them and us unfortunately! We paid for the Sunday evening of leaving day so we didn't have to rush, yet another van turned up! We were entitled to stay till the morning? We paid for it! So again 6 on field plus a private one.. Lucy the owner was supposed to call me re concerns before I left a review... nothing after 3 days, it's a shame because such a beautiful place. Won't be retuning unfortunately......

What a Lovely Place!

We stayed here for almost 2 weeks and had a wonderful time even though the weather wasn't always great. The camping area is huge although the pitches are all at the top of the hill. At first we pitched our van sideways so that we could sit out looking at the view across the valley. Unfortunately, we had to turn it round after the first night as the incline made our step too high and we kept falling into the van! SO bring chocks but don't let it put you off because it is fabulous! Not mentioned in their listing and one of the things we always look for also is the lovely lawned grass, very well kept and very short! Certainly no need for a groundsheet! Once we had turned our van around we were very happy with the outcome. We faced the evening sunset and there were some spectacular skies. There was only one slight downside. The owner of the site moved a caravan onto a pitch from storage for someone coming in. At the time we said nothing as we expected the owners to change the position but when they arrived they did not have a tow ball and we discovered that they never tow their caravan. As such they were too close to us, (all pitches had numbers and everyone was pitched directly on the number but when the owner sited this new van he put it about 4 metres our side of their number so it felt cramped). Fortunately we were leaving next morning so it wasn't too bad and it taught us a lesson to not assume and point things out at the time. We hired the swimming pool for an hour during out second week and wished we had done it sooner to get another swim in! It is a lovely pool and a great asset to have on a site. Our main love of this site though has to go to the surrounding countryside that you have on all sides and the distance from the road. We will definitely be back! Our thanks to John and Lucy but also and not least to Dave who made us laugh and could not do enough for us!

Fantastic Site

This is our 10th visit to this beautiful quiet CL it's a large well mown site with lovely countryside views, easy access to slightly sloping pitches with easy levelling. Use of toilet and shower and also a large indoor swimming pool by arrangement with owners for a small extra charge. There is excellent walking and cycling from the site around quiet country lanes and well marked footpaths. The owners are very friendly and helpful and also have barn cottages that are availabe to rent for non caravaning friends or family.

Great Site

Stayed for one night but very impressed by the site. Grass was well trimmed and short, welcomed by the sight of an owl sitting on the fence and great views over the surrounding area. Site is on a slope so some leveling is required, water tap handy and the chemical toilet point across the field but not too far away. Grey water dumped into the hedge at the bottom of site. Overall a great site and we will definitely visit again.

Lovely place to relax

We've just spent 5 nights at this site and was very impressed. The owners were very helpful but not at all intrusive. The open fields have lovely views and there is plenty of walks and cycle rides to enjoy. You definitely need a car to see the best of Suffolk and we had a lovely meal in the local pub in Halesworth. We hired the pool which was great as we had it all to ourselves! An ideal spot for relaxing and seeing Suffolk.

May break

Had a wonderful nine day stay here in May. Pleasant weather helped, but this is a delightful site, gently sloping well cut grass, overlooking a small mere and a mix of woodland and farmland. The sounds are of the natural life. We enjoyed watching the Barn owl on his nightly search for supper, a variety of other birdlife, hares and rabbits, and cows in the field across  the track. Plenty of visiting opportunities: we went to Halesworth, Sutton Hoo ship burial site, 'Constable country', Southwold (twice) a lovely small town, Aldeburgh (ditto), Norwich, (good bus service from Halesworth) and Thorpeness. Strolls and bike rides in the quiet evenings were an added joy. There's a swimming pool and showers for an extra charge, which looked fine but we didn't use them. This is what CL's are all about!
