Lovely CL, dearer than most!

We have just visited Westland Farm and it was an enjoyable visit. The pitches are fairly small I can imagine when it is busy there would not be much space at all but fine at this time of year. There are lovely views across the field towards the reservoir. The pitches were quite close to the road maybe 15metres, so you do get road noise in the day, it isn't bad at night. We found it was a fairly time consuming drive into barnstaple due to the windy roads but it is the perfect location for various national trust walks along the coast, Heddon valley and many more. We really enjoyed seeing the pigs, they are very friendly and come running over! We didn't use the showering facilities but they looked to be a very high standard. Just to clarify it actually is £2,50 per dog which makes this an expensive stay, dearer than most. Overall, a 4 star. Thank you for our stay!

A weeks wonderful stay

We stayed at the CL for a week. Best showers and facilities. The family was really lovely and couldn’t be more helpful. Wonderful pitches and views of the local countryside. Lovely local walks. Will definitely stay again

Devon Joy

Just returned from a lovely stay at this site, the owners were so pleasant to talk to and it was very good of them to just allow us to walk to the sheds and view the animals. The shower facilities were exellent , but I was left wondering where to hang my clothes in shower two. I know life on the farm is always a busy time and extra trimming returns no income but I felt the long grass between the apple trees let the site down and also blocked your view to the lake. Not the owners fault as it was obvious that they have made attempts to phase out the traffic noise by planting hedges, but there were times when you missed what your friends were saying if a loud vehicle went by, and it did disturb us early in the morning, plus a nosy motor bike on their way to work. Overall I would not hesitate to return to this site as it has so much going for it.

Best shower and toilet facilities

Showers and toilet facilities best we’ve experienced on a CL site, and getting on for the best we’ve ever experienced. Enjoyed having a heated towel rail. A hand-dryer or paper towels in the washrooms would have been helpful. We were disappointed not to be able to find the permissive path to the reservoir. More helpful instructions and some arrows would have been helpful. We walked via the A road (following the provided What 3 Words directions) which we didn’t enjoy but had a nice walk when we got there. Didn’t see the owner during our two night stay, but received lots of helpful information about the surrounding area before we arrived. Great view from the motorhome pitches.

Excellent, well equipped site

Easy access off the main road to this lovely site with far reaching views. Fully serviced flat pitches make setting up a breeze and there is the useful addition of toilets and shower rooms. We really enjoyed our short stay, catching the bus to Lynton and Lynmouth for a great day out. We will definitely return.

Quality CL

We stayed here for 3 nights at New year. The site has easy access from the road and the pitches are level. The views to the reservoir are good. The owners have put in a lot of effort to ensure guests have a great experience whilst staying with them. Nothing is too much trouble. Fully serviced pitches yet they have built a motorhome service point too if you don't want to bucket waste water from the motorhome. A gate and steps lead to an amazing shower block, washing up area, laundry, fridge and freezer. Yes this is a CL not a campsite! Situated well in Exmoor. Perfect for those with a car. You can get around Exmoor in a motorhome but you need to be confident of your van width! The drive into Simonsbath isn't too bad and that is a good centre for walking. The information were we sent prior to arrrival was great. All about walks and local pubs etc. We paid on arrival. There is road noise which might be intrusive if you spend you time sitting outside your van. If you are there for activites and outings this CL ticks all the boxes.

An amazing place to stay.. it’s our 2nd visit

This is our second visit and we love it here…we have 2 children and dogs and were all excited to be back. The pitches are hard standing fully serviced and fully flat. They have toilets and shower facilities and this is all without the added bonus of the animals (especially the pigs 😍) It’s kept very clean and tidy and such a lovely place to stay. Nicky and Andy are lovely, welcoming and great hosts. Nicky is patient answering all questions regarding the animals. If you like animal’s you can help with chores feeding the pigs and chickens. You can pick freshly laid eggs from the hen house, buy burgers and sausages. If you are looking to visit north Devon, this is the perfect place to stop and you central to all the best places.

Fabulous Place!

The CL site is really well kept and has nice views of fields and the Whistlandpound reservoir in the distance, which you can walk to from the site. The pitches are on good hard standing with mowed grass in between vans and serviced, which makes life easy. The verges and edges are left to wild which we love to see as is incredibly important for wildlife. The showers and toilets are plenty and lovely, really clean and nicely kept and only a very short walk from the CL site. There is a fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer for use and a lovely washing up area. There are not many places where you can wash up dinner things while watching the sun set and have a couple of adorable pigs just outside the window, or where you can collect eggs from the hen house for breakfast (there is an honesty box in the shower block). We usually wash up in the van but this was a real treat so we used it all the time. There is a road near the CL site which can be busy at the usual times, but is very quiet after work hours and overnight. We like quiet, but it didnt faze us at all. Nicky and Andy the owners are really lovely and very helpful. Nicky wanders up most days to check everything is ok. If animals are your thing or you have children then I highly recommend meeting Nicky in the barn at least one morning and accompanying her while she feeds the horses, pigs and chickens - these animals have a fab life! We have absolutely loved our stay here and will be coming back for sure.

Not one we will return to

Well what can we say! We must be at a different CL to the other reviews. Let’s start by saying that the only accurate picture is number 2. There is NO grass in front of the vans as shown in pics one and three. The whole, very small area for 5 vans is situated right next to a very busy and constantly noisy main road. The camping fields look nice and have a lovely view. The bit designated as a cl can’t see the views as weeds grow pretty much everywhere and it’s basically a weed infested car park next to a equally messy scrap area of old farm bits and pieces. Having just come from a superb cl in Dartmoor the difference is palpable. We sent our text to Nicky as requested, giving arrival times. No one there on arrival, just a sign asking you to please drive to house before going in to let owners know you are there. Did this but no one there (get that it’s a working farm) sowet bank ad set up anyway and sent another message telling her this. No response.went out and sent another text saying we were back and eventually walked as to house where someone took money. Also a charge of 2.50 per night per dog?? Not sure what the dogs get for this as there’s not even a decent grass area for them to sit on. Just messy weedy hardstanding that’s not practical or suitable. Vans very close together as well. Think the owners are focused on tents and shepherd hut and caravans seem an afterthought. They could do much to clean up this site and improve it.

Amazing facilities!

What an amazing site. We spent 2 nights here in May 2022 on the hardstanding area. The view was beautiful. It was a rainy few days whilst we were there, so we couldn't take advantage of the local walks or sitting outside; however this was more than made up for by the facilities offered, which are second to none. There is a washing up area with a number of sinks under a wooden canopy. Each pitch has electricity and access to its own water and grey waste point. Some of these are hardstanding on the upper level close to the road, but as this is a minor road it is quiet at night. The absolute bonus is the shower and toilet block. You would be hard pressed to match this in many hotels; spacious, more than enough for all to use, clean, cosy, warm and well maintained. One wall was a huge drying rack with copper piping and plenty of hooks. There was also a room with laundry facilities and a fridge freezer for visitors use. We felt utterly spoilt and reluctant to move on.
