Short Stay 2023

Booked as part of a round trip of Southern England, site is in a beautiful position overlooking a canal and open fields, but when we booked in March 2022 it had been raining forever and the owner advised us not to use the lower part of the field but nevertheless we had to engage 4 wheel drive to get in position at the top of the field. Walked to local pub for dinner and drinks but we found it quite expensive but worth walking the extra mile to Weeden Bec to the Plume of Feathers and the nearby 200 Year old Royal Armouries Site. On site you will need levelling blocks, full site instructions are on the gate, personally I thought the price of £20 per night a bit steep but I had not got my own power increase costs of £800 at the time

Carlsberg probably don't do CL's, but if they did this would be it

Perfect location situated between the A5 and M1 J16 so a good stopover location when transiting which is why we chose it. Views of the canal and countryside help the memories of driving fade away. The nearest pub (The Narrowboat) is out of the gate turn RIGHT. As mentioned by others and on the gate information notice the field does have a hill in it with flat pitches by the canal and at the top. There is a warning that the bottom of the field could get tricky if very wet so you may be better off staying up the top end of the field which in no way spoils the experience of sleeping by the Grand Union Canal. We've used this CL twice and would do so again.

An Absolute Gem

This was our first trip out in our "New to us" caravan so we had no idea what to expect. Booking was easy via email and we paid with cash (In an envelope through the owners door) but you can just as easily pay by bank transfer. The owner was quick to respond by email to any queries we had and was pleasant to deal with. We decided to park at the top of the hill as we prefer the view across the open countryside rather than down by the canal and also bearing in mind its open water we had our young grandson come to visit . Its a regular farm gate entrance which was fine for us but advise caution if you are towing a wide van (still ok to get through just take it slowly) The field is huge with plenty of space so no issues there. Water and electric hook ups all good (water is at the top of the hill but of course you'll be rolling downwards so that's no issue) Plenty of information and contact details all on the gate, Grey water and toilet disposal across the road from the gate so that was easy enough, bins were plentiful and hand sanitiser readily available. Plenty of passing canal boats to watch, there are wild rabbits and a couple of kites flew over too. A swan family live in the area and are very friendly along with a population of mallard ducks The whole field is rough cut so be prepared to walk grass everywhere (not an issue for us at all but might be a bother to some) The local store at Weedon is less than five minutes by car. The walks in the area are delightful and it would seem you can (when restrictions allow) hire a canal boat a few hundred yards up the road for a day. Noise wise, we could hear the hum in the distance from the A road and the Motorway but to be honest its hardly noticeable. There was the odd car that went along the road aside the pitch but we didn't expect it to be silent so again not an issue to us at all and certainly nothing that would keep you awake at night. The sunsets and sunrises here look amazing!. Just a small note of caution there is a fair hill coming back up from the canal side pitches and we noticed a couple of times cars struggled (or failed) to pull back up the hill of course its grassy too so when wet it gets very boggy.... (well good luck there if you don't have a 4X4) Again I don't think this is in detriment to the site in any way which is amazing but it is something to bear in mind. All in all this was a delightful site and we would love to return sometime soon.

The views make it!

The views really make this site: on the banks of the canal with passing boats and a view beyond across the valley. And the swans and ducks are friendly! The dilemma is whether to park at the top of the hill to be near the facilities or at the bottom to be near the canal: depends on how far you are prepared to go for water and disposal, but at-least if you're by the canal, returning with a full roly-poly of water, is down hill! Lots of places of interest near-by and a useful small Tesco in Weedon Bec. The pub at the top of the road is good as well.

Great Views

What a gem , close to the M1 yet very peaceful. Huge site with EHU pitch where you choose with lovely views over the canal. We didn’t see the owner paid by BACS , plenty of hand sanitizers on bins, hook up points and water tap . Lovely walks from the site and a dog friendly pub 5 minutes walk by the canal.

Pleasant 4 night stay

Visiting grandchildren in Northampton so chose this site for its access to M1 & also chance to fish on canal. Directions to site were not clear but have since been updated & are now much better. Pitched by canal, a lovely flat pitch with views of the narrow boats passing regularly. Water & elsan are at the top of the field but exercise is welcome. Enjoyed the fishing & caught nice bream & perch. Overall a relaxing few days & would visit again.

Wonderful CL Site

We recently spent a total of 4 nights at this site and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future. Our stay there was very peaceful and the location was one of the best we have visited. The views across the countryside and watching the narrow boats coming and going along the canal made our short stay very enjoyable. Plenty of walks, directly from the site, meant that we didn't need to drive anywhere whilst we were there. Site fees were paid electronically using my mobile phone and hand sanitizers were available at the water tap, electric hook up, chemical toilet disposal point and rubbish bins.

Overbooked yet again

Arrived at this site to yet again find it overbooked with far more caravans/ motorhomes than the CL limit of 5. This means that there is no chance of an electric hook up point (and no discount on the £17 a night fees) and also as the site is very sloped very few areas where you could park on the flat. So despite the plus point of atteactive canal views we decided not to stay and be ripped off. I see from previous reviews that overbooking has been a problem on this site since at least 2015. Caravan and Motorhome club need to address this but I won't hold my breath waiting for them to do something!

Really picturesque site

Really nice well kept site. Views to die for. We camped at the top of the field whereas most vans seemed to prefer the waters edge. As we seem to find more and more now, the CL limit of 5 vans is not adhered too, there were 8 vans on the two nights we stayed; in fact when we left there were 10 on the field! As the 9 power points are on 3 posts then unless you go non-electric, when busy you will be close to other vans. However, for non-electric the field is very big and you can pitch well away from others. Owner lives well away from the site (1\4 mile up the road) so bit of a trek to go and pay. Lovely site though and well worth a visit at quiet times.
