Campervan Visit September 2023

A very peaceful site in an excellent location if you love walking; the only sound at night was from the owls in the tree above us. As previously mentioned the pitches are quite sloping and the ground is quite soft after rain so that we were glad that we had parked on mats! It was lovely to be met as soon as we drew up at the farm and to be fully advised about the choice of pitches. There is a water tap by the entrance making it easy for motorhomes to fill up on there way in and the nearby toilet emptying point was well organised. We particularly enjoyed watching the piglets by the farm entrance who didn't mind the rain.

Great stay and so peaceful

Our second stay at Wild Slack and loved it again. It is so peaceful and views are great. Some lovely walks around the area including one through the woods and down to the village of Lealholm. The facilities on site are well maintained and great to have the farm vending machine on site. The village has good amenities including the Board Inn pub, the Beck view team room (nice scones) and the Shepherds Hall tea rooms (nice food). There is also a local shop which sells a good variety of goods. Venturing a little further a field the bakery/cafe at Danby is definitely to be recommended with lovely bread and cakes made in store. The places of Grosmont, Thornton-le-dale, Helmsley (lovely outdoor swimming pool) and Hutton-le-hole are well worth a visit.

Superb site

We have recently returned to Wild Slack with our caravan. Martin and Andrea could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The site is on quite a slope but suitable blocks and advice on siting the caravan are freely available (bring your own ramps). Our pitch afforded a beautiful view across the valley. There are lots of footpaths and bridleways to explore with easy access to the Moors and panoramic views. It’s a short walk to the shops, pub and station in Lealholm. Whitby, Grosmont, Robin Hood’s Bay, Staithes and Saltburn are all easily accessible by car. This is a first class site and we very much look forward to the next time we stay!

A very special place

A perfect site with lovely views... Thanks to Martin for helping us to set up. I wish we could use the site more often but we live a long way away. It's our 3rd trip here. It's a very special place for us, my Grandmother was born on the farm many years ago. My Great Grandfather has his initials above one of the stable doors. HSB Martin and Andrea always make us so welcome. There is a lovely walk through the woods to Lealholm and The Board Inn.... THANKYOU...

Fantastic site!

First visit to this site - and would recommend. Lovely working farm with pigs and sheep. Not the most level of sites, but if you have ramps not a problem and the view more than makes up for it. Bus and train links into Whitby and beyond are close by and there are miles of walks from the site.

Fabulous

We stayed 2 nights in September. Beautiful location. Lovely welcome, good facilities. Slightly sloping pitch but fine with levelling blocks. View from our van was beautiful. Lovely walk into local village, Lealholm. Pub (closed Mondays), PO, village shop and train station. Lots of other local walks. We caught the train to Whitby, half hour journey (there was also a bus service had we wanted to use that). Great vending facility dispensing farm produced sausages, burgers etc. We’d love to go back.

Fantastic site.

What a gem of a find! Stayed 2 nights on the lower site, slightly sloping but could choose where to pitch. Martin was so helpful and friendly and was actually so reassuring about my impending hip op😂 amazing what you get to talk about. The facilities were spot on and the vending machine dispensed the most amazing sausages and burgers. Could fault nothing and will hope to return before too long.

Lovely CL On A Working Farm

Have just returned from 4 nights at this site on this lovely old working farm. We were welcomed by Martin and he showed us available pitches. He has a very useful information leaflet about the local area. Toilet clean and all facilities close to the CL. I cannot fault this site at all, the views are amazing and it is very peaceful. If we are in the area we will certainly stay here again.

Fantastic peaceful scenic site

Stayed here 5 nights Sept. They have the CL area and then a much larger general field, which I opted for. That's on quite a slope but Martin the owner helped me set up with on-site levellers, nothing to much for him even giving my car a jump start, top bloke! Facilities are fine, 2 sets of toilets / showers. Walks across the hills direct from site, also great walks along the Esk valley with the railway for return. Access from the A171 is easy, so don't panic. All in all a great site, thoroughly recommend.

Perfect Place.

All I can do is emphasise what a great place this is. Met by Martin and shown to pitch. Views are fabulous. We spent seven nights here, a very quiet site although next to the road it never spoilt our visit. Toilet and shower facilities were spotless. Token for shower, last six minutes plenty of hot water. Lovely walk to village. And ideally situated to visit all the coastal towns. We will definitely come back here. For the many that will come here just a note about the approach road. If you are coming from the Whitby area do not take the first turn that is signposted Lealholm. Go further up and take the second turn that appears opposite a house on right. Still tight with bends but not as bad.
