Almost Perfect!

Wortley Hall is an excellent CL. As the name implies it is in the grounds of Wortley Hall set behind the Hall and far enough away to avoid any excess noise. The Hall itself has an interesting history as in the 1950's it was purchased by the Trade Union movement to use as a Conference Centre and a place for holidays, a function that continues to this day. The five pitches are all on hardstanding with an area of grass alongside. Unfortunately they are on a bit of a slope which is probably a bigger problem for motorhomers than those members with caravans. In fairness this is pointed out on the webpage for this site. There is a very neat and nicely done water and waste water disposal point and a chemical emptying point in an enclosed shed like building. The excellent toilet/shower facilities are contained in one of the outbuildings a little way from the pitches. They are spacious and completed to a very nice standard. The outbuilding has a key pad lock for access. Given that there is still a lot of empty space within the building housing the facilities I wonder if this will be used for future provision of services? Wortley Hall has a restaurant called the Ruddy Duck and there is also The Fire Brigade Union Bar where we had a nice lunch one day. No WiFi at the pitches but I understand this is available at the Hall. The 4G signal was pretty good. You are free to wander around the grounds of the Hall and the walled garden. Sometimes non CL visitors find themselves by mistake at the CL when they take a wrong path! It is a fairly short uphill walk into the village of Wortley which has a pub, post office, shop and coffee shop. Unfortunately public transport is a bit limited but there is an infrequent bus service along the main road. Highly recommended.
