Lovely Site

Just come back from 4 days from the site, the location is fantastic to get into Ayr and rail station is a short work away to Glasgow etc. the Staff are first class, friendly and very helpful. The site is kept very clean and the toilet and showers were always clean. Would defiantly recommend it and will be returning

Excellent Site

This was an excellent site in that it is located within walking distance of Ayr. The walk from the site to Ayr via the river bank was just glorious, we did manage to get superb weather in mid September and that obviously helped. The site was full because of the forthcoming Air Show but even after the event, whilst most people coming for the show disappeared, their places were taken by others. Everybody was very friendly, I lost my wife on any number of occasions whilst we were there (8 days). The facilities were excellent. I did read in the review book in the Information room that certain people (I've been in the Caravan Club for 26 years - and therefore YOU should listen to me type of person) stated in their opinion that the toilets need to be updated. Why? is my response to that. The toilet/amenities/ablutions block is pleasant, warm, clean and everything works just as it should. There is even piped music at a reasonable volume. How long do these people spend in the toilets? Perhaps during their stays in these superb locations they should get out more and enjoy the local area instead of whingeing (which is what I've just realised is what I am doing now). Another thing both my wife and I noticed is that there were many people keeping the streets not only tidy but hosing them down. Whether this was because of the Air Show I don't know but it was really refreshing to see. Altogether a great time was had by us.

Ayr today, and Ayr tomorrow

If you want a site that reflects a softer-side of Scotland, Ayr is the place. Set in a secluded garden between a residential area and the college, the site provides easy access to the river, which in turn leads in 10 mins walk to the heart of the town, with its very long beaches and glorious views. The town centre also features a wide variety of shops, great for those stocking up on essentials before heading up the west coast. The site itself feels contained without being cramped. It is beautifully maintained by excellent, and very helpful wardens - their floral displays at the entrance are legendary. Showers and facilities are nice and clean, with background music in the shower blocks - a feature which we enjoyed. As a staging post for the north west, or for a short break away, we would recommend this site, and give it five stars.

lovely site

having just spent 21 nights at this lovely site which is in a perfect location easy to walk into town and to the beach we feel the one let down are the showers that drasticaly need upgrading it would also help if site users would observe the 5mph speed limit the corner by the childrens play area is an accident waiting to happen the floral arrangements at the entrance to the site are a credit to the wardens and yes we would visit again.

Another excellent stay

Had another excellent stay at this site over the first weekend in September this year. Used the site as a base for visiting the Air Show and nearby Prestwick Airport. Site itself is well looked after and clean, the shower block is also clean although the showers could possibly do with an upgrade. Wardens were very pleasant and helpful over our stay and kept everything spik and span.

A perfect base

This is a perfect site for touring the West coast of Scotland. It is great for walking the dog along the river side.A 10 minute walk into Ayr.The site is well kept and the wardens were very friendly and approachable. On the down side there is not enough showers for the amount of pitches. It is also a 10 minute walk to the race course if a race fan.

A busy site.

We have been to this site before as it is a good stop over site whilst on tour. This visit was planned, however, we have not been on site when there have been so many families with children left by their parents to wander the site, including walking and playing within inches of our windows and door. We are experienced campers, caravaners and now have a campervan. Our family made many caravan holidays and our children respected the boundaries of other people. Not much the wardens can do about this problem other than have a word with families about where their children might play and to respect neighbours boundaries. This is a good well located site with good facilities and we have met some very interesting people from across Europe on this site. Very friendly helpful wardens. Just beware that it can be very busy with families and children at weekends and school holiday times.

Michael the Warden made this site great!

We spent two weeks touring Scotland and Michael at Ayr Cragie was the stand out warden for us.  He was knowledgable, good fun and very helpful.  If there was an award for Warden of the Year, we would vote for him.  As a result of speaking to Michael we went to Glasgow on the train, a bargain for a family of four.  We also visited Cumbrae Island on his recommendation which was perfect and we hadn't a clue about it before we spoke to him.  Having visited many sites this summer we were all struck how unhelpful and grumpy the vast majority of the wardens were.  Maybe time for some young blood in sites?

Glasgow trip

Moved over to Ayr from Strathclyde Park to escape to racket from surrounding traffic and construction work and found the site almost perfect. While it is well laid out and perfectly located to visit the town centre and beach, with a nice walk along the river. The site is well maintained and kept as clean as possible by some really good wardens. I say that because the toilet block etc are a bit run down and not quite up to the normal standard of other club sites. Maybe when they are updated it'll be VERY popular.

Great site, excellent location.

My family and I stayed at this site for 4 nights after visiting family in Paisley. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the town (15 mins) and the sea front (20mins) along the banks of the river.  The site is level with good sized pitches and is protected from the harshest weather by being surrounded by mature trees and hedges. The amenities block has everything required including a good sized washing machine and tumble dryer. The staff are friendly and helpful giving useful local information on check-in. There is a small children's play park which my 7 year old enjoyed immensely.   We will be returning for a longer stay next year to see more of Bonnie Scotland and will use this site as our base.
