Superb and would recommend

Having read the reviews for this site after booking, to be honest we were thinking of cancelling due to the negatives. We are so glad we didn't. The site was superb, very clean and beautiful. Grass and gardens are immaculate and a lot of hard work has gone into this site to maintain the good standards. Loved the valet caravan parking, some of the pitches would be quite tight to manoeuvre into so the valet option is the best one, and you can park on the road to load and unload. They don't want you to park on the grass and as an example of this whilst we were there, one person drove his car on the grass and got stuck, as we had rain the night before and the tractor had to come and rescue him! There is no space to park a car on the pitches if you have an awning and it does minimise noise levels anyway. No hardship to park in the car park, its not far at all to walk to and we found plenty of large spaces available for larger cars. The staff were very pleasant, helpful and accommodating, so not sure why previous reviews had stated they were rude. We had no issues at all. There was a slight electrical problem on site, so rang the emergency number at 8.30 a.m. and they came straight away it was sorted in no time, very efficiently. They had a young lady, Ellie who was selling home made chocolate brownies, doughnuts, flapjacks etc on the Thursday, her first time on the site, and we so recommend. They were delicious and reasonably priced. All the negative reviews on this site, we don't really understand. We don't have a dog, so could not comment on anything regarding this. Lanes to site entrance is narrow yes, but they have managed this by the no right turn as you leave the site so you dont 'bump' into any other caravans and NE Somerset is known for small narrow lanes, that is the beauty and countryside of Somerset. Bushes had been cut back a few days before we left. This is the councils department, not the sites responsibility I would suspect. Phone signal was very good. Covid restrictions were very good. Loved the Adult Only element, didn't notice any noise from planes. Nice pub on corner and local shop within walking distance which is well stocked, and a Spa only a 5 minute drive too. Will definitely be back and yes I would recommend.

Great Site! Great Location! Great Staff!

Congratulations to all the Bath Chew Valley Caravan Site on the exceptional quality of your park and all the facilities that were provided. We found the site very easily with the directions provided and the signage as we approached the site.Without exception all the staff were brilliant! From the very welcome greeting to the personal direction to our pitch. We had no difficulties during our stay and the facilities were second to none with absolute cleanliness throughout, and top quality management. The site went far beyond our expectations. We went to the Red Lion Pub a couple of times, and although we didn’t eat there we would not hesitate to call in again for food. The staff there were fantastically welcoming. We would be delighted to return in the future and we cannot think of one thing that would improve the already superbly well managed site. Thank you to all the staff at Chew Valley Caravan Park! Kind regards Chris & Sue Brooks (stayed from 20th-25th June 2021)

Superb site

Having read lots of other nit picking reviews, I have to counter with a full blown well-deserved five stars. Having read complaints about the site staff using their tractor to take your van to site, we found this to be a fantastic service. The van was on the pitch ready to put the steadies down in seconds. Access to the site is via a one way lane, so of no worry to most drivers, and certainly not as tight as many other sites. It's a beautifully kept site, and being reasonably small (35 pitches?), using your own vehicle to put a van on a pitch would ruin that beautiful landscaping in short order. It's incredibly peaceful, and kept spotlessly clean. The ten individual unisex toilet shower rooms are an excellent use of space and give a high availability on the site. We didn't find keeping the car in the car park in the least bit inconvenient. The site is also well placed for the whole area. Within about twenty miles, you have Bath, Bristol, Wells, Cheddar, Wookey, Weston-super-Mare and Glastonbury. We thoroughly enjoyed our week from 4th October (despite the rain) and will most definitely be back in 2021!

Nice Adult Only Site but Challenging Access and Exits

Its a well run clean and tidy site. Access to and from site is a challenge due to uncut hedges in lanes. Nice lay back country areas around. Will not be returning because of that issue otherwise really nice site. Pity? Also Covid incentive VAT reduced by Chancellor from 20 - 5% was retained by management when I questioned a refund prior to arrival? This is a private site so you pay full rates in advance 30 days before arrival.

fantastic site

Fantastic site. We visited on the 4th July and stayed 11 nights. The staff are friendly and kept everything clean. The grounds are well kept and there are lots of hand sanatisers doted around the site for people to use. Well worth a visit.

Not keen

Well kept site with cctv everywhere. Found it off putting to be told by two separate staff members on arrival all the rules that you have to comply with. Don’t like someone else towing Caravan to pitch - totally unnecessary. Cars not allowed on pitch and have to be left in car park. Site states it is dog friendly but we did not find that. As with most sites dog has to be on a lead at all times and there is a small dog walk. However dog has to be kept on a lead in the dog walk which is not much use to a young dog that needs to run. There is an area of woodland walk that would be ideal but dogs are not allowed in there - we never saw anyone at all in it. All in all we found this site overly regimented even by CMC standards and we will not be returning

Less of a ‘wow’ on our return visits in 2019

We have returned to the Chew affiliated site twice in 2019. We chose the site due to close proximity to Bath, as we were in the process of packing up, removals, cleaning and completing on our house sale. We had a fully serviced pitch in May and a standard pitch in June. The fully serviced pitches are ‘easy’ and you don’t need to worry about running out of water or overflowing the wastewater. The overall the site is well maintained, some of the pitches are ‘tight’ our awning has a ‘shaped’ front and we do need to request our caravan is parked ‘hard-over’ to the edging board to ensure our awning fits on the gravel pitch. This year we have a new addition of a puppy, firstly we got in trouble for parking ‘on the pitch’ when cars are only allowed to be parked on the roadway across the front of pitches for loading/unloading. This appears to be a bit of a silly rule, as you are then blocking the roadway for other arrivals and returning motorhomes. Secondly, the dog walking area is fully fenced, but the rules mean dogs must be kept on leads at all times. The dog walking area is also adjacent to a woodland walk (which dogs are not allowed in) but I have never seen anyone use the woodland walk. The individual shower rooms are starting to look ‘worn’ and need a thorough deep clean and some TLC in places. During our May stay the radiators in the shower rooms were still switched on from 7am-10pm, which made for sauna like conditions. Thankfully the radiators had been ditched off when we returned in June. During May there were more motorhomes than caravans, but a large proportion of the motorhomes had accompanying small cars. The car park does not have marked ‘bays’ and the car park shape is not square, so some of the spaces have a reducing length. There is no indication provided by reception, nor polite request, that if you have a small ‘accompanying’ car to please be considerate and park at the far end and hence leave the ‘longer’ spaces closer to reception available for larger tow cars. This resulted in us returning on at least three occasions to a ‘full’ car park at 10pm, due in a large way to inconsiderately parked smaller cars. Early one morning we did need to use the ‘out of hours’ contact as the electronic gate had failed in the ‘closed’ position. We believe due to heavy rain the power supply to the gate had been interrupted. The staff member arrived promptly after 10minutes and manually opened the gate so we could be on our way. Will we return, possibly, if we are visiting Bristol and Bath, but then maybe we will just stay with friends next time.

Peacefull retreat

Had a 4 night break on this site in an area we did not know well. It is located in beautiful countryside and only a short walk to the village pub and Indian restaurant. Both provided a friendly welcome and good food. The site is a great base for walking in the Mendips and for exploring Bath and Bristol. Will certainly return.

Lovely and Peaceful

We have stayed at the Chew Valley site for the last week including the glorious Easter weekend. The site is amazing it is so quiet and peaceful. The gardens are kept lovely and the lawns are discreetly kept neat. Loved the pitch we had. The bonus of individual bathrooms was a real treat. The staff where nice, helpful and very informative about the local area. Loved the caravan valet parking/pitching service (could get used to that). The pet exercise area is adequate for morning and evening toilet stops. It’s not a walk but serves the purpose it was designed for. A lot of people have said in previous reviews that they were not keen on the fact that you cannot park your car near the pitches. To be honest this was a bonus I think as you don’t have cars coming in and out all the time disturbing the peace. Also the car park is only a few yards from even the furthest pitch. I believe there is pitches where you can park near your unit for disabled guests and I am sure if you do have problems walking you could ask for the pitches nearest the car park which would resolve the distance problems. The local shop is very well stocked and the Red Lion pub (both just 5 minute walk from the site) was very unassuming but the food was lovely. Better than your average pub grub. We ate there 3 times including Sunday lunch which was lovely. Top tip the portion sizes are generous so think before ordering starters. We also stumbled on the Pony and Trap (about 1.5 miles from site) whilst walking and treated our selves to a very posh ploughman’s lunch which was the best I’d ever had mind you it is a Michelin star restaurant. Definitely recommended for a treat. We went back for an evening meal and was not disappointed. The area is fab for sightseeing so much to see and a walkers paradise. Most shops, restaurants and tea rooms are doggie friendly (including the two pubs mentioned) We have been to Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, all the local lakes and even managed a trip across to wales (to visit family) for the day. We definitely recommend this site for couples and families without children (Adult only site) and will be coming back.

Small pitches

on arrival you have to drop your van at the gate and let some guy on a tractor put it on a pitch for you, wasn't amused by this as I was under the impression it optional not compulsory, after the van was placed on the pitch I was informed I could take my car to unload but then park in the carpark provided wasn't amused by this either. if you don't put an awning up you have room for your car, but no under no certain terms was I told you must park in carpark, back to the pitch itself if you put up an awning you no space surrounding your van is non existent and are forced to walk on the mud to get to your tap and electric on a serviced pitch. £32 a night in February what a rip off with only part the facilities open and people waiting to se them after they paid top money is not what I would expect from anything associated with the caravan club that I've been a member for many years, wouldn't return here very poor value for money, this park is more like a dictatorship on the what you can and cant do.
