First visit of many.

Enjoyed our first visit to this site. Booked by phone at short notice, we followed the clear directions to arrive to a warm and friendly welcome. Site is level, nicely laid out, quiet and peaceful. There is far distant aircraft noise from Bristol Airport which we noticed but were curious rather than bothered to hear. We had a serviced pitch, for the first time as we are new to Motorhoming., which was great. Reception has lots of information about the area, walks, bus times etc. The village only has one bus a week to Bath, but lots to Bristol. The village shop is open long hours and the current owner was friendly and informative. Other reviewers have mentioned the showers, which are currently laid out as a row of little en suite style rooms. Very warm, nicely decorated, private and roomy although I have to agree that I noticed the fluctuating water temperature in the shower and would have liked to been able to adjust the direction. There is a hairdryer in most. Friendly farewell from the staff. Short stay this time, but plenty to see and do so we will be back.

Be careful !

A beautiful site with a luxurious toilet/shower block.However , on closer inspection there are advisory notices everywhere indicating how you (especially your dog ) should behave whilst on site. Fair enough as site wardens do like to have control but sadly it went too far on our third day there. Our motorhome wheel accidentally clipped the gravel board between the hand standing and grass verge resulting in minor damage. The board was pushed upright with a split but the adjacent grass/gravel was still intact . We were apologetic but the duty warden was not happy and told us in no uncertain terms that when we are ready to leave the next day (our departure), we must inform him at reception so that we can be supervised manoeuvring off the pitch. How humiliating!. Needles to say , we slipped away early unnoticed - my wife decided it was her turn to drive off the pitch and had no intention of allowing anybody supervising her. She is , after all a qualified driving instructor!

Three stays in three months

As caravan ‘newbies’ we chose Chew Valley as our first caravan site stay upon collection of our new van, we returned the following month due to appointments in Bath, and a month later again, due to appointments in Bath. We particularly like the private bathroom facilities, lack of children and the landscaping/spaces between pitches which give the overall site a very nice feeling of space and tranquility. We have enjoyed walking from the site to Chew Valley Lake, Chew Magna, Knowle Hill and Burledge Hill. A short drive away we have enjoyed visiting Glastonbury, Wells, Ebbor Gorge, Bath, Bristol and National Trust properties at Stourhead and Tyntesfield. The site is located with local eateries a short walk or drive away including: Salt & Malt at Chew Valley Lake where the fish is cooked in gluten free batter (which is great for our dietary requirements), Manor farm shop and cafe (at the far end of Bishop Sutton village) for lunch and purchasing fresh ingredients from the farm shop, the Red Lion for a drink and dinner, and Sutton Spice for a very nice curry. We will return to Chew Valley again in 2019.

Fabulous Site

Booked this site for 2 nights, it was so fabulous we booked an extra night, wish we could have stayed longer with our friends and our dog. Very much looking forward to returning for longer in the spring

Our frist visit

We were greeted with a warm welcome and Sarah showed us to our pitch. The site is very clean, the bathrooms are well maintained, and the grounds are kept pristine. The site pitches are an adequate size as cars are kept in the car park, a good idea. The bus can be reached by a 10 minute walk into the village and is located by the only store which has everything at a price! The bus to Bristol is frequent however the bus to Bath only runs on a Wednesday. We hired the site's car which was not overpriced and very useful for motor home users. There are plenty of good restaurants within a 10 minute drive, the best for us was the Blue Bowl, great food and lovely staff. We hope to return to Bath Chew Valley again and can recommend the site especially for those able to explore the countryside.

OK but showers rubbish

Stayed here to explore bath and the surrounding area. Travelled 220 mi to get there and rung ahead to say we were going to be late -- arriving after the 7pm cut-off. We arrive at 9:15pm and were almost refused entry due to them not putting people on pitch after dark. Thankfully the did let us on and tugged our outfit onto pitch for us. After a 7 hour journey I don't think I could have taken a night in the lay-by. The pitch spacing is a little narrow but generally OK. Lending library is nice idea and good set of leaflets for local walks. Staff were friendly enough and accommodating. Lane leading to the site is very narrow and walkers, cyclists and on-coming vehicles force you into the bushes so beware of scratching your van. Hopefully you are lucky and get through without obstructions. The lanes round there should all be one-way in my opinion. Site is really nicely maintained, grass and paths are clean and tidy. Shower block is supposed to be "luxury" but that is disingenuous, it offers basics functionality, decorated reasonably well. The showers are utter rubbish. Spray is too fine, head is not adjustable, water temperature is all over the place (hard over to cold when someone turns a tap on) and pressure is poor. I abandoned my first shower halfway through and used the one in my van after that. Considering the £32/night for members it is disgraceful that these aren't better. Make sure you bring different hozelock ends for the service tap on the pitch. My original adaptor didn't bite tight enough to seal as the tap body interfered with the fitting and it couldn't screw on properly. A trip to the B&Q 10 mi away allowed me to buy the same fitting by 2 different manufacturers and one of them was OK as it had a shallower threaded region. Also bring a decent length of grey hose as the drain is quite a distance away from the van and there is no pipework to help you. Nice walks in the area and the Chew Valley Lake. Red Lion pub offers limited selection of nice food that is a tad pricey but convenient. Wouldn't return in a hurry given the distance and the price but there are not many options in the area if you want a club site.

Very overpriced

We stayed here recently and were very disappointed, I cannot believe the extortionate prices some of these sites charge and this is a prime example. We travel with 2 dogs, most of the strip of ground that’s called the dog walk was shut because the ground was wet and it was plainly obvious they didn’t want the dogs walking anywhere else, the site is on a B road so it’s difficult to walk them offsite because there are no verges or pavements, they’d be better off just saying they don’t accept dogs. The facilities are unisex, you do get a bathroom rather than just a cubicle, but the shower pressure varies the entire time you use it, the fan of the shower head means if you stand in the middle of the shower then you’ll stay dry and although they are in decent decorative order they look like they need a good clean. The pitches feel very crammed in, on our pitch there was no way we are 6 metres away from our neighbour which I thought was a necessity. As you can gather for £32 a night (that’s with club discount of £1!) we were left feeling like we’ve been ripped off and to be honest this is becoming a common theme with club sites, we’ve started using CL’s recently and we have found them to be far better value for money so for us that will be our one and only visit to Bath Chew Valley.

It does what is says on the Tin

We booked this site as a base to visit and explore the area. We were not disappointed. We were greeted by very friendly staff who expertly park your caravan. We were given a full brochure which was full of valuable information.As well as a list of local restaurants and pubs with a map showing where the places were. Site is well situated for Bath and Bristol, only 11 miles from Cheddar Gorge (well worth visiting) Families with grown up children and no nonsense pets. Were made welcome...loved no children about....so relaxing. The scenery around and about is fantastic .....the middle of the Mendip Hills. Would highly recommend this site to anyone who does not like noise apart from bird song

A good winter base

This site makes a great base for exploring the area. There are many walks directly from the site including a circular which we completed which goes down to the Chew Valley Lake and across the fields to Chew Magna and then back via a different route. We also enjoyed cycling on the Bristol to Bath Cycleway starting at Warmley to cycle into Bath on one day and into Bristol on another day. Both places are well worth visiting. Wells, Cheddar and Weston S Mare are also near enough to visit on a day outing. The site itself is very nicely kept, as you would expect from it’s 5* rating, with the convenience of a fully serviced pitch meaning no water carrying, waste water emptying and TV tuning as all to hand on the post in the corner of the pitch. The individual bathrooms containing washbasin, shower and toilet were kept very clean although the showers weren’t the best and one morning were cold!! Staff were all very friendly and helpful – it’s a nice touch to have your van pitched for you when you arrive but can’t quite see the need for it when you leave as you already have your car on the pitch to load up and to start up the tractor to pull the van a few 100m seemed a little unnecessary, especially when the site wasn’t busy. I can see the purpose of parking the car on the car park during your stay but with motorhomes moving on and off all of the time I think the use of the tractor was a little excessive. The information room was brilliant with a library of books, information leaflets, walk details and even some DVD’s to borrow. For us this was very much a winter months site as with all hard standing and everybody hidden away by 6.00pm when it was dark it was fine but don’t expect any nice views to sit and look at when the weather is warmer and the evenings sunny. The site doesn’t have quite the feel of a usual CMC site as it is privately owned but it does its job well and provided a very comfortable base for our 5 night stay.

A Pleasant Weekend

New to motorhome ownership so we are getting away every month to get used to the van. We picked this site because it is only 40 miles away and were very impressed with its layout and the facilities, it's one of the best so far. Easy for local attractions (Cheddar Gorge, Weston-Super-Mare, Bristol and Bath etc) and the village shop is very good. We did not try the local pub but had a meal in Chew Magna, we will be back no doubt.
