Good for families

Excellent, well-laid-out site.

Stayed for four nights in Agust, in our caravan. It takes a keen eye to see the site entrance, tucked away on a junction, so don't overshoot. Once located, the site is accessed by a long driveway which reveals a very spacious and well-arranged site indeed, with very spacious grass pitches in particular. On our arrival we were asked whether we preferred grass or hardstanding, and two decades of tenting previous to our 'van made the choice grass. The choice of pitches was very good, with far more than the regulation 6 metres of space, and the design compartmentalises the site with copses of trees and bushes so that the site seems smaller than it actually is. On our preferred pitch the grass had suffered badly through a non-breathable groundsheet laid down for an extended time, so with permission and careful measuring, we were able to pitch to let the grass recover. The site is everything one comes to expect in terms of smooth-running and cleanliness. We appreciated the dog-walk which directly accessed the footpath network and allowed a walk to Battle, and Hastings and the coast is a short drive. Signs at the dog walk simultaneously told to keep our mutts on leashes but also not to forget the dogs' balls. I interpreted this as meaning to put the dog on a leash once on the footpath since the landowners were insistent, but to keep it under close control while ball-chasing within the dog-walk. No-one told me off. Road noise has been mentioned in reviews, but we found it very quiet during our stay. Similarly, children seemed quite happy with their play facilities (climbing apparatus and a fenced ball area). On leaving, again at the main road, we needed to move off smartish due to traffic, but this did not dent our view that this is a great site.
