NOTE: Fully serviced pitches

Lovely site in a great location with good facilities and great staff, let down by the sub-standard fully serviced pitches. If you don’t want fully serviced pitches it’s a fabulous site. We booked a fully serviced pitch expecting what we have received at multiple other sites, lesson learnt - don’t assume fully serviced pitches are all to the same standard. On siting our caravan between the two posts, as directed, it became glaringly obvious our regularly used long length water hose was not going to reach the tap - this was a first. There were two taps together sited close to the next pitch, the caravan on the next pitch was attached to one leaving the other for us - no way could our hose reach that far, not even going under the caravan! The only electric connections available were directly behind the caravan on the next pitch. Bizarrely the waste water drain was directly behind the pitch. We surmised the set up was a poor attempt to make two pitches into fully serviced pitches. The only way we could set up was to turn the caravan 180 degrees (thank goodness for the motor mover) so it was facing front in on the pitch, not ideal but the only way our water hose (used on all other sites) was going to get connected. Thankfully the site staff were happy for us to be facing the wrong way. We like to use the shower in the caravan, having a water hook-up us ideal for this purpose. As the pitch was next to a service point we opened the door onto it, albeit behind a small hedge, instead of away from it. We were thankful there wasn’t too much noise from bottles, cans, rubbish etc getting put into bins. On the plus side we met a lot of people as it was very well used. Lovely site but if you’re booking a fully serviced pitch ask questions and when you get to the pitch take a long look for your water and electric connections before you site your van, it may save you time. Would we go back? Maybe, but we’d definitely ask questions about the available pitches first and consider using two connecting water barrels instead of paying for fully serviced.

Great location for Le Shuttle

Used the site because it was close to the Le Shuttle terminal and because it's so close to the bus stop for Canterbury and Folkestone. The facilities are starting to look past their best, particularly the ones near the entrance. The staff are great - friendly and helpful. I'm sure we'll stay there again

Very helpful staff

It was my second time at this site. I want to thank the employee (sorry, I can't remember his name) who helped me when I had a complete mental aberration one morning. I drove off with the canopy of my motorhome still out, with the legs pegged into the ground! He was lovely, sympathetic, helped to sort out the damage I'd done and didn't make me feel an idiot. I won't do that again! I have no idea if the site is good for families or not so have only given 3 stars for that aspect.

Great for Eurotunnel

We stayed at Black Horse Farm last year exploring the local area. This year we stayed just for one night due to it's proximity to the Eurotunnel. It made our journey much more relaxed having somewhere nice to stay the night before we left for France. It's just a short drive, about 15 minutes, if that, to the Eurotunnel check in area. The site is not only convenient it's clean with good sized flat pitches and friendly staff. If you have dogs there's a great dog walk just across the road.

Ferry pitch start and finish of holiday.

We booked a ferry pitch at both ends of our trip to the continent. I feel it is a little expensive for what is in reality a parking space for approximately 12 hours. The facilities are adequate when you consider that people are coming and going at all hours so that there isn’t the usual “ rush hour” morning and evening like on most Club sites. Good job though because the facilities near the ferry pitches are limited in numbers. Can’t comment to much on the Wardens. Never saw one. Obviously well organised though as you collect an envelope from the board outside reception with your name or your registration number on with your pitch number and site information. What more do you need? Would I use again? Despite the cost, it is handy for Channel Tunnel or Dover ferries, so yes.

Nice site, shame about the speedy drivers.

I wish the wardens could challenge the car drivers speeding on site, and not just a little bit; I’ve had a black pickup truck speeding past my van at 30mph - no exaggeration and generally speeding every day for the week that I’ve been here. A silver Volvo estate speeding every day and all sizes of Motorhomes speeding past, it’s like being parked in lay-by. The worst things is that there are young children being put at risk. All I can say is you train stupid!

Always A Great Stay

We are regulars at Black Horse Farm and we very much appreciate the hard work that the WHOLE TEAM who look after this site do. We are always made very welcome and nothing is too much trouble, we are more than happy with the facilities on the site having been caravanning for many years and remembering facilities from years ago, these are luxury in OUR opinion warm, clean and well looked after There is an excellent bus service just outside of the site every twenty minutes to Folkestone or Canterbury where connections to travel further afield can be had, we also use the train and the bus stops near to Folkestone Central station. There are many eateries in and around Folkestone, we can recommend Django’s in town The White Horse Hawkinge and Farthingloe Farm which has a barn restaurant and a great farm shop selling fresh produce and fantastic bread, cakes, home made pies and pastries all baked on site. We also recommend fresh fish from the fishmonger on the Staythe near the harbour very reasonably priced and great selection, if like us you like to support local shops who sell good quality, for your bbq we highly recommend you try Taylor’s butchers in Herne Bay, well worth the bus journey or trip in the car.

This site is in decline

I use this site a lot. Since before the lock down, the dog walk gates were rotten and in need of repair, they are now so far gone that they are hanging off and now need replacement. The Motorhome service point is located too close to the exit barrier and when in use by some longer or motor homes that discharge from the rear, it can be a struggle to pull a caravan around to exit. There is also a caravan that appears to use the site more than i do, as it’s been pitched up on the same pitch for my last three visits. If i was suspicious, id possibly think it was exceeding the 21 day rule. On a more positive note, the cleaner that comes on site in the mornings to clean the shower blocks, is worth her weight in gold, on my last visit i was shocked to see the state that people leave them in. For the cost of using this site, i think some real investment should be set aside to justify.
