Blackshaw moor

Blackshaw moor is quite a large site on 3 levels. Nobody seems to want to be on the bottom as it’s near a busy road. We were on the 2nd level and it’s was not too noisy there. The site was not as tidy as the majority of the other club sites- lots of weeds on pitches and rough grass on verges- just not as pretty as usual! Toilets and showers could do with an update. One shower was out of use for our whole visit which meant there was queues Lovely spa hotel about 5mins up the road for a drink or food. Loved tittlesworth reservoir and cafe. Lazy trout pub worth a visit too. Leek is a pretty place

Lovely site, friendly staff and good location

We only had 1 night stopover here, but the site was lovely and clean which is what we now come to expect with all Caravan Club sites. Staff where very friendly and welcoming. The tourer explorer challenge for the kids was wonderful as was the wooden yoyo on completion. We drove our motorhome to The Roaches for a walk and the farmer had opened his field for parking for a small honesty charge which was brilliant as it would have been difficult normally. Also Titteswroth Water Visitor Centre was lovely, huge play park for the kids and lovely cafe - loads of parking too.

Good site, great location

Had a very pleasant stay at Blackshaw Moor. We could choose where to pitch so went towards the top of the site so traffic noise wasn't an issue, but I imagine further down it would be. Received a very warm welcome on arrival, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pitch sizes are very generous - be warned - you definitely need rock pegs for your awning! The toilets and showers were ok. We were quite near to the kids playground, and while we accept there is going to be some noise from there, we also experienced a lot of kids screaming and running around in and out of the toilet block, particularly in the evenings. Apart from that, it is a great site. Would recommend a visit to the farm shop at Brooklyn Farm, just down the road towards Leek. Great range of produce. Good walks up and around The Roaches. The town of Leek has some good shops and places to eat too.

Excellent Club Site

What hits you first when you arrive is the pride the wardens have in the site. Floral displays, historical boards and information and the immaculate grounds keeping. Wardens were lovely, super friendly and helpful. Gave us tips on best available pitches. We were at the top end of the site at the end of the dog walk. good view of the hills and the overall site. Nothing to dislike. Plenty of service points, laundry with fully serviceable machines. O2 and Vodafone signals all good 4G. TV signal was via a cable attached to the EHU post, we didnt try to use roof ariels as wardens told us the Freeview signal was poor less the bollard. Toilets always clean (Less some mucky soles that cannot seem to use a brush). A lovely site that is ideally situated for walkers - we walked from site many times, but the higher peaks are not a long drive away. Buxton is only 7 miles away and is a lovely day out, although Leek is much bigger than you might anticipate. A huge thank you to the warden team - they make this site superb.

Lovely site in a great location

This is a lovely site, the welcome from the wardens when we arrived made the troubled journey worth while. We were at the top of the site, no noise from the road was observed. Plenty to do in the area, it’s a short drive to .leek and Buxton. The local reservoir is a must and the 4.5 mile walk around it is worth completing.

Family holiday

A very nice welcome at reception. We found a pitch away from the road so noise was not an issue. The pitches are gravel so make sure you have lots of pegs for awning as the ground is very hard and pegs were bending. The toilet facilities were adequate. Cleaning needs to be increased as only cleaned once a day so we were greeted with some unpleasant toilet blockages and showers were not great. We decided to wait until after the cleaning but that meant you had to wait to shower until 10.45 so best part of the morning gone! I think the toilets etc should be cleaned every few hours especially at the moment the hand gels were often empty which was not great.

Second visit in two months

This site is handy to meet up with my parents so have visited at regular intervals. Site facilities are very well maintained and the staff are friendly. The only drawback is the road noise from the A53 if pitched at the low end of the site next to the road. Otherwise, a lovely site.

Great site, shame about the road noise

Lovely site, with pitches on three levels, plus several little groups of pitches. Be aware all pitches are hardstanding. The wardens are lovely, so friendly and welcoming. It was our 3 year old's birthday while we were there and they put a message for him on the board and sang him happy birthday! The facilities are as you expect from a club site. Two toilet blocks, which is ample for the size of site, we never had to wait. So useful to have a toddler bathroom to bath the little ones. Good little dog walk. Lots of information posts around the park explain the history of the site. Great little play area for the kids. Our only issue was the noise. We are in a trailer tent so perhaps more vulnerable to noise. The road can be heard all day, well into the evening, though quiet in the middle of the night. We were by no means close to the road, about two thirds of the way up the site, and it was still bothersome. Also, there is a dirt bike track that runs along the top of the site, which is active in the afternoon and early evening - not a great soundtrack to your dinner!

2nd visit

The campsite and the facilities are great. As previous reviews you do have to be careful when choosing your pitch as you can hear the road noise which is surprising really. We have stayed before in the spring, unfortunately you can’t guarantee the weather so our visit this time was very wet and windy. However this wouldn’t put us off booking again.

Peaceful if you can get away from the road

I'm not one to make a fuss about the position of sites, if you look beforehand you know its on a road, so obviously if you have to pitch next to it there will be noise. You can always move. The rest of the site is very peaceful and very clean and neat as you would imagine with a CAMC site. Large pitches, some with hedges in between for privacy. Some pitches are not terribly level so remember your ramps. There is a great dog walk around the edge of the site, and at the back there is a good little park with lots of pitches around it so you can keep an eye on the little ones. Lots of people visit the site, an ice-cream van, a fresh fish & poultry guy, a curry van and a pizza van! Not bad! The pavement in both directions from the site is narrow, but its a short stroll to the pub which is also a spa, so could be worth a visit in the rain. If you turn down the road by the pub you end up at Titteswell Reservoir which is a lovely place to walk whether you have a dog or not. Its a bit narrow but you can park the motorhome in the carpark and there is a cafe and a huge park for the kids. Great day out. The Roaches is a right turn out of the site and is well worth the effort as the views are fantastic. You can also drive and park at the foot of the climb and again there is a fab little cafe. We also drove to Churnet Valley Railway which is about 15 mins away, there's lots of parking, the steam train is great fun and there is a canal just up the road with a very popular cafe and pub and you can walk as far as you like in a very tranquil wooded area. All in all this site is a hidden jem, its the summer holidays for heavens sake and you really wouldn't have known it - perfect - just a shame about the weather!!!
