Winter Visit

We are always looking for sites to use in late November, early December near to Christmas events. I was therefore very pleased to see that the Club this year decided to extend the opening of Bladon Chains as its so near to all the events at Blenheim Palace which is within walking distance or there is a handy half hourly bus service during the week from very near the site entrance if you want to leave your vehicle on site. You also get a very worthwhile discount off tickets to the Palace on production of your site fee receipt. You can also convert these tickets into annual passes at no extra cost. The theme this year was Alice in the Palace which was well done and of course there was the Christmas Market. I particularly recommend the Chocolate Kisses!!! Woodstock is a nice little Cotswold Town and Churchill's grave at Bladon is a shortish walk from the site. But what about the site itself? Well it could do with a major upgrade. I imagine this is a leased site so easy to suggest but maybe not so easy to achieve? Only a third of the pitches are hardstanding (the grass ones being closed at this time of years) Some of the pitches are quite small and the wardens will often allocate a pitch according to size of outfit. Whilst I understand the need for this it doesn't work in all circumstances. Like a previous reviewer we were also allocated pitch 62 and asked to drive in. The problem with this was that the pitch slopes down towards the fence and there was no way I had that amount of levelling with me! I was able to change to a better pitch. But even here because of the peg positioning had I driven onto the pitch I would have virtually had to get out of the van on the grass finger between the pitches. I assume there was a grass finger as it was covered in leaves which were clearly weeks old. Some of the site roads have potholes in them and really need repairing. Service points are not that numerous, or at least not near to lots of the pitches. The motorhome service point is of the older variety with a heavy metal lid, at least it had a decent lifting handle. The toilet block is showing its age a bit and I think if the site continues to open until New Year at the very least I would have thought the dish washing area needs to be protected from the elements. We have used this site several times before but during the spring and summer and I suspect using in the winter shows up its shortcomings. The site only has a WiFi point near the information room. Not much use really, especially in winter! Depending on network 4G is also a bit intermittent.
