We spent a few a couple of days at this site great for walking and our dog's loved it. The wardens are lovely and very welcoming. The only thing for me that it lacks is still shower block.
We will definitely return. ??
Great location
Great location for walking. You could do a weeks worth of walks from the site without needing the car. You can also easily walk to the main Borrowdale rd for the frequent bus service which runs between keswick and Seatoller for more options. No toilet/shower facilities which is fine for me. Some of the awning pitches look like they'd be too small for a car, caravan and awning? Wardens are very friendly and were helpful when I was having caravan problems.
Peace and tranquility
This was our second consecutive Easter visit with totally contrasting weather situations but this did in no way reduce our enjoyment. Bad weather this year and traffic problems were not the fault of the site, indeed our peace was in a strange way probably enhanced being able to simply enjoy the location. The new wardens had only been here a couple of weeks but were very welcoming and when our EHU decided to flip it was quickly rectified. Our star rating is reduced simply because there are no wash and shower facilities here and which we knew anyway but this actually suits us quite well so families might find this an inconvenience. Overall brilliant and I'm sure we'll be back next year.
August 2015 stay - forgotten review!
We stayed here for 6 nights and enjoyed mostly sunny weather. The site is in an ideal position for those who enjoy walking and other outdoor activities. We hired a canoe on the river Derwent and thoroughly enjoyed it. The wardens were very friendly and looked after the site well. We will definitely be returning in the future.
Good site for walking and photography.
This is the 2nd time that we have stayed hear. The drive to the site from Keswick is a bit hairy but once on the site the wardens are extremely helpful and friendly. The pitches are in small groups and fairly well spread out so that most pitches do not feel overlooked. The lack of facilities is no problem as water and waste points are always nearby.
The pitches are all under tree cover so in the summer it is not ideal for sun worshipers.
The location is great for walks ranging from easy and flat to quite strenuous. I feel that the site is one of the best for photographers as some of the best locations are within walking disdance ie Cat Bells, Ashness Bridge, Ashness Waterfall, Surprise View, Watendlath, Ladore Falls and the Borrowdale Valley. We plan to visit a few times next year.
Second Visit This Year
Absolutely love this site. The location is lovely so handy for anything you want to experience in the Lakes. Lovely walks direct from the site. Derwentwater is just through a gate off the site, you can walk lakeside to Keswick or catch the launch. Bus can be caught from the site too. It's our second visit this year, and we were blessed with fantastic weather. Most of the pitches are under trees, at this time of year not much of a problem apart from the leaves but might not appeal to some in the summer due to lack of sun. Lovely wardens everywhere tidy. Even though there are no facilities wasn't any hardship, most vans have everything you need these days. We will definitely be returning to this site, even though the drive through Grange is a bit nail biting !!
Indian summer break at Borrowdale
We spent 3 nights in the last week of September at this site. We were very lucky weather-wise - blue skies, sunshine, the Lakes at its best. The site, however, being set amongst trees, took time to warm up in the mornings! We have a motorhome which we like to leave on site. We did not need it - we could walk around the lake and its surroundings, take the bus which took a long loop around Grasmere, Crummock Water, Whinlatter and Keswick and all stops in between, or take the motorlaunch round the lake to any of its 6 landing stages (Low Brandelhow was not open.) The shop had all the basics you are likely to need, the wardens were friendly and there were tea shops and hotels serving meals within walking distance (about 30 minutes away). Great Site
My wife and I visited this site last week and we were very pleased. Our initial welcome was friendly and helpful and we got ourselves a pretty good pitch. The site was tidy and clean and we had a very relaxing stay.
Getting to the site from the main road was interesting to say the least, some quite narrow bits to negotiate.
We will definitely stay at this site again and continue exploring the surrounding countryside.
Great Site, Stunning Location.
A very friendly site in a lovely quiet location, Love the peace and tranquillity. The wardens are lovely, friendly and extremely helpful. The lake is about 100yards from the edge of the site with easy walking all round the lake. Scenery is stunning and we even saw a red squirrel on our last day! We'll definitely be back.
