Disappointed

Having driven from Devon we were somewhat disappointed with Bunree, having read the positive reviews. The view from the site is undeniably fabulous but the facilities are shocking. Worn, tired, damaged and dated. The chemical toilet facility is appalling. It was the main topic of many others on the site. The facilities are by far the worst we have experienced on the network. The site shop is poorly stocked and there are no nearby shops. WiFi only near the reception not that we need it. We did enjoy touring around the area, which is stunningly beautiful and it’s a good base. This was the most expensive site on our tour and now I understand why many members are not renewing their membership. Independent sites have raised their game and are usually much cheaper. We joined the caravan club to be assured of certain standards, unfortunately this is no longer the case. NB Leaving the site , joining the main road, there is a sign restricting the view to your left . Be careful pulling out.

What a landmark site

Set in a wonderful location on the shores of Loch Linnhe, just south of Corran ferry, lies Bunree. Whatever pitch you happen to end up on, you have got views of the mountains, the Loch and the stunning scenery that is a feature of this area. Once again, as is customary at club sites, a lovely warm welcome from the site staff on arrival, with plenty of pitches to choose, and all well maintained. We felt the peace and tranquility from the moment we set up. Prior to arrival some of the recent reviews were critical regarding the condition of the amenities block. I have to say overall there was no problem whatsoever, they were well maintained and were spotlessly clean. What a credit to the dedicated site staff. However, that being said I would also say that they are in need of some TLC and wondered whether that may feature in the not too distant future as part of the clubs overall site refurbishment program, especially as every night we were there in the first week in May it was almost full every night. Having lived in Fort William in the early 60s, It was a bit more of my down memory lane tour. I have to say that we took time out to visit Oban, Glencoe first, then a bit further north to Glenfinnan and onwards to Mallaig as well as around Fort William itself. The area is a haven for walkers and climbers. There’s plenty of off-road cycle tracks and trails available too, although I have reservations about anyone trying to cycle along the very busy main road from the site into Fort William. Unfortunately the car ferry at Corran was suspended whilst we were there so unable to get over to explore the remote areas on the other side of the Loch. Overall I can’t find any fault with the site, the way it’s run, the way it is organised, and given the opportunity, I hope this will not be my last visit to this particular location

Our dream site

Bunree is just the site we hoped for. From the scenic drive through Glencoe to the babbling stream along the entry road and finally the pitches with Loch view. We had blue skies to set it off and watched a perfect sunset. Easy access to the main road enabled us to visit Glenfinnan Viaduct (Harry Potter and Arisaig & Mallaig during our 1 day there. Site managers really helpful with loval advice and suggestions of where to call in on our onward journey. We will definitely return.

Best scenery on network, worst facilities?

This site is amazing for the scenery and quite possibly the best on the network. However equally it’s probably got the worst facilities shower toilet wise. They are not only outdated and horrible, they need repair, for example the shower panel behind the shower had worn out, which means using them isn’t a pleasant experience. Such a shame to let down what is otherwise an amazing site, but also I was very surprised that a club site would be allowed to get to that point, perhaps that’s my inexperience. The views are breathtaking, and it is easy to sit and do nothing captivated by the peace and tranquility. For that sides of things this campsite cannot be beaten. I was also able to lay in bed and listen to the water lapping on the shore, a memory I am sure I will go back to many times as it was really unique. We pitched our Motorhome nose in to make the maximum of this view, and were perfectly happy doing little as the weather was sadly very wet. If I were nearer I would use this site again, and I will definitely recommend it to others, but club please pull your socks up and give members the facilities they expect and pay for.

Simply wonderful

This was my second visit to Onich, but the first was 33 years before! I always remembered it as one of the very best sites I had ever visited; it is a mystery to me why I had not been back before despite return trips to Scotland. This return visit – finally – only served to confirm my memory. It is a true gem and must be among the top-most sites for surrounding beauty in the network.

It goes without saying, then, that this is a wonderful site with the most marvellous outlook over Loch Linnhe. It is hard to find a negative about the site – the only one perhaps being that it is rather cut-off from civilisation for those who need facilities close at hand.

The views across the loch to Ardnamurchan are wonderful and it is pleasant to watch the boats coming in and out. I had a pitch on the water's edge. These are all non-awning, but the spacing is fine and I did not feel hemmed in at all.

It is a good and not overly challenging walk to the Falls of Inchree and the Corran Ferry is near enough to walk to and take a stroll or a cycle ride on Ardnamurchan. It is almost the perfect site and because of that, and for once, I cannot think of much else to write.

Gem of a Site with a Fabulous View

We stayed here last week and were blessed with great weather. The front pitches overlook Loch Linnie and the mountains behind it so the view was stunning. Good facilities and helpful wardens and large drying room really useful for us walkers. We will definitely return. Very well located for Ben Nevis and Glencoe. Two things to be aware of 1) avoid A82 going alongside Lock Lomond as this is narrow with rock face next to you and nowhere to go if a lorry comes round a corner over the white line. Best to access via A85 Sterling route that warden directed us to use for our way home 2) don't try and leave the site at 1pm as the narrow access road gets full of arriving outfits.

Beautiful sunsets

We had a lovely week at Bunree, the weather was kind and we had spectacular sunsets and a stunning view from our pitch. Facilities were clean, and the site staff were helpful and friendly. Seemed to be a mix of people on the site- those stopping for a night to break up their journeys and some stopping for longer. Good walks from the site, and only a short drive to Glencoe, Kinlochleven and Fort William. I would definitely recommend this wonderful spot, and we hope to return next year as there is so much to explore

Beauty with a caviat!

What a site! The surroundings and ambience are breathtaking from every pitch on this site. Queuing on arrival, the wardens were not flustered at all. Very welcoming and approachable. We chose a non awning pitch and were Loch side. Due to blue beg location however we had to drive onto pitch or risk treading wet grass into van. We would have preferred to back on due to our seating arrangements. We had stunning weather bar 1 teatime when the heavens opened but the site dried quickly with no standing water issues. Easy walk from site to bus stop for service to Fort William. 10 mins walk from site to Corran ferry. There was an abundance of aquatic activity in the loch. We could see fish jumping. Sunsets to die for, a photographers dream! Early morning I ventured over and the shower cubicles were full of grass and other detritus. Please fellow patrons, clean the showers after use, there is no excuse for your laziness and disrespect! Please CAMC, the wardens cannot work miracles, they cannot polish sh.... The whole facilities block is a disgrace compared to others on your network. Mould, cracked and stained tiles in the showers, limescale deposits on every fixture, nowhere to sit and dry feet and legs, dark, dingy and very old! I had to re shower in my van for fear of being contaminated with a nasty! Desperately in need of refurb and at the prices charged per night on this very popular site, I despair as to why it's not been done. I cannot award full scores because of the condition of the toilet block. Over all, a pleasant stay in beautiful surroundings.

Great Stay, would return

Had a fantastic stay at Bunree, after negotiating the cows on the arrival road! The better half becoming a cattle herder. Great views, and very restful. We mostly used the site as a base to explore the area with the car. Taking the 2 ferries over to Mull and back in a day. If we had more time, we would have walked off site and visited the local forestry trails. (Maybe next time!) Agree with the other comments regarding shower block, but did not put us off.
