Fantastic wardens go above and beyond

Had a fantastic 5 nights here and what a lovely peaceful site everywhere is clean to a high standard, The wardens are brilliant, the Pizza man comes once a week had the best ever pizza cooked in a wood oven, other nights there is fish & chips and home made curry night. The area is fantastic for walking with lots of places to visit. Definitely somewhere we will go back to. Don’t know if it’s good for families as we were there with none

Dire Weekend

This was our 'snagging' weekend with a new van, new awning, new windbreak. It started off so well, queuing at the door of reception whilst an ultra glamourous young lady was chatted up by the booking in warden. Quite brightened my day. And he was a happy, friendly soul even when dealing with an old curmudgeon like me. The weather was very, very blustery and we even had thunder and downpours too. We managed to erect the awning but the windbreak would've broken if we'd tried to erect it. After our first night I suspected that our brand new fridge wasn't very frigid. And so it proved to be. It was a dead fridge, its lights were on but there was nobody home. by the second evening we'd had to throw away fresh and smoked salmon, the remains of our milk, some expensive M&S burgers and half of a French cheese selection among other things. Whether on gas or 240V the fridge was heating but the interior wasn't chilling. We also discovered our new van oven took aeons to cook croissants and reverted to buying some from reception. The popup fish and chips were excellent and the pizza ok. So a dire weekend, none of which was the CMC's fault and which we should've expected on a snagging weekend. There were snags. UPDATE Praise to our dealer though. We reported the dead fridge Monday afternoon. Took the van to them Tuesday morning and they rang at 9am Wednesday to say a new fridge had been fitted and was tested overnight and working fine. So our next weekend should be better.

Lovely peaceful site in fantastic location

What a fantastic site, stunning setting, mature privacy planting, lovely and peaceful (when we were there during school term time) and a country park literally on the doorstep. All the facilities were super clean, great showers, free hairdryer. Staff very friendly and helpful, useful shop with local products and (expensive) baked goods. We walked into Buxton several times, always taking advantage of the £6 taxi ride back at club discount. Buxton itself was lovely to walk around with many great places to eat, Bakewell also very nice. We both enjoyed our tour of Poole's Caverns (walking distance from the club) and did some walks in the country park on various evenings. My only negative would be that there is virtually no mobile signal down in the site itself - we had to walk up the hill to make calls or receive emails. Based on the other poor reviews, we didn't bother purchasing wifi access which I think was a good move since most of the time my phone couldn't even detect the club wifi service whenever I checked.

Magic

This site is set in an old quarry and for this reason, internet and phone signals are severely reduced. This is no bad thing unless you still do a bit of work online like us and then it becomes an issue. Amazing site though and probably my favourite so far. You have direct access to a country park giving endless walks. We walked to Buxton which is gorgeous and past Pooles cavern which we didn’t enter. The staff were lovely, the shop is supplied directly from Bakewells and there was a “curry van” on Thursday night. All in all, an amazing site!

Lovely quiet site

Stayed here in June for 2 weeks originally only booked for 1 but like it so much stayed an extra week. Lovely quiet site we stayed at the far end of the site which has much more spacious pitches the only down side to this as it’s a bit of a trek to fill up your waters etc or go to the shower block. The shower blocks have recently been renovated so are in excellent clean order. We couldn’t fault the wardens who were all helpful and friendly especially kristian. Lots of nice walk’s from the site which are excellent for walkers and dog owners. The only downfall on this site is the lack of phone signal or Wi-Fi signal. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Wonderful site

We have just returned home from a 7 night stay at this site and can highly recommend it. Set in beautiful countryside but close to Buxton it was an ideal base for exploring. We've read some critical reviews of the site but our response to them would be; The phone and Wi-Fi signals were a bit hit and miss but who cares? The jackdaws roosting on the quarry walls were a bit noisy but their antics were entertaining and nature doesn't come with a volume control, there are definitely hills to climb in and out of the site but it's the Peak District in all its lumpy, bumpy breathtaking glory!! We had a bit of a medical emergency during our stay which resulted in the need for an ambulance. The staff were amazing - efficient, caring and empathetic, and all with a wonderful sense of humour. All in all it ticked all our boxes and we will most definitely return. Thank you guys and girls for a great stay!

An unusual but beautiful setting

Just got back from a weeks stay here. A unique setting , so quiet and peaceful. Quite a lot of crows but they didn’t bother us. They seem to stay high on the quarry face. Quite a steep road into the site, through a field where sheep were grazing, but I must say they have good road sense. The facilities are excellent having been refurbished a while back. Site very clean. Our only grumble was the camp Wi-Fi . getting a mobile signal here is difficult, best when off camp. We thought joining the camp Wi-Fi would be the way to go, but unfortunately not. Couldn’t even get a decent signal to join and pay , we gave up after 5 attempts. We had a lovely stay here ,plenty to do in the area. Don’t know if we will return as 190 miles away! Plenty more sites to discover. I would thoroughly recommend this site

Tranquil site

Just stayed for the first time at this site and we thought it was a wonderful site, walk into Buxton was a nice walk, route nicely laid out on your arrival literature. We only stayed for 2 nights as a stopover for our return South from Gretna. The staff, site and facilities are what you expect from the club. We stayed from Wed-Fri so also got to sample the Mobile catering that appeared on the Thursday night, having cycled the Monsal trail starting/finishing at Bakewell station. We tried the Curry night and both had Chicken Rogan Josh, one with chips one with rice, Onion Bhajis and Naan bread. Was a lovely meal and a good addition to the site on the Tues + Thurs. The site shop stocked a good variety of essentials and also got deliveries from the Bakewell Baker. The Stilton Scones are heavenly....Will definitely return but have loads to explore first

Brilliant Buxton

Just spent Jubilee Weekend at Buxton site absolutely brilliant weekend even the weather for most of the time . Usual clean and tidy on site with helpful happy wardens . Site was full with turnovers every day but wardens still made time to provide Jubilee activity for the campers . Great walks from site for our 3 dogs who also love coming here . Love sitting watching the crows in the quarry walls ,very relaxing site . Only gripe PLEASE parents explain to your kids about road safety around site , we witnessed and had to find parents twice when kids fell off scooters and bikes one actually running into our caravan A frame . I have nothing againsst kids playing in fact think it is great the way they make friends whilst away , but someone is going to get injured at aome point .. Thanks for a great weekend Buxton see you soon .. Dave and Denise
