Great place but finished on a downer

This is a great site in an area with as much or as little to do as you wish. This was our second time here the first being the same time last year, every two months we give our house to provide retreat days to any one who requires it through a charity. My wife and I are part of the team that run the days and activities so having two young boys one of us takes them out for that day. Last year we pitched on the Carsington site had a great time and returned home each night instead of staying in the van. This year we attempted the same to find that its against the rules to leave the van at night and I think that it was more the way that it was put to us rather than the rule itself however we were allowed to do it this time but "NEVER AGAIN!". we also had some rather up market outfits next to us who seemingly disapproved of having our 2006 van there, truth is I could if I wished have the same as them the Mercedes the brand new Jeep the brand new Unicorn the designer lap dogs etc. but there's nothing wrong with mine! My experience left us on a negative here which ids a real shame, it doesn't take much to talk nicely to customers does it?

Excellent

This is one of the best CC sites we've stayed on. Normal good quality site, but nicely located in a pine wood, with some views over Carsington Water. It has a great dog walk all the way round the site in the pine wood, again with great views over the reservoir. Finally it's a good location for walks. The Carsington Water walk is easily accessible from the site and even away from the reservoir it is lovely walking country.

Great

Our van was pitched here for nearly 3 weeks so our Son and Daughter in law could have a holiday as well as us. None of us wanted to leave! Great location for site seeing.  Carsington Water was good for exploring on bikes too and the Tissington Trail is easily accessible if you don't mind a few hills, although you are well rewarded with the views along the way. Site lives up to the Caravan Clubs reputation.

Perfect retreat!

We stayed here at the end of October and it was fantastic! Lovely site, quiet despite the number of pitches. Great location within walking distance of carsington water and gorgeous views from the site. The best dog walk on site we have experienced. Two lovely play parks and great shower blocks. Couldn't have wished for me, we will definitely return!

Dont Park Under the Trees!

As with most club sites Carsington is a beautiful place with great wardens who give help no matter what. We chose our pitch on a lovely clear day about two thirds away from reception in a lovely area that wasn't too busy. Owls hooted nearly every night for us and as it was haloween gave great atmosphere. The pity was that I parked the van under trees and boy did it rain. I quite like the sound of raindrops on the roof but had forgotten that the trees store the rain and then it drops like a stone on the roof. Awful. Earplugs were the answer. Loads of places to visit, Critch Tramway Museum, the Matlocks, Haddon and Chatsworth Halls and the caves further away. Great base for this park of the world. The Black Horse in Hulland Ward has a small area for meals and the quality is good. We will probably revisit.

Just lovely

We really enjoyed our 3 nights stay here we picked a pitch right near the playground and toilet block. Very peaceful and the cycle ride to the visitors centre at Carsington was lovely as the sun was out. We visited Matlock Bath for fish and chips and a ride in the cable car to the Heights of Abraham.   The site was clean and it was very useful that the toilet block had a drying room. The wardens were very friendly and very quick to mend the lights in the ladies wash area. We would definitely be returning in the future.

Super Cycling!

We stayed here, adding an extra day to the booked two. We have a 7 year old and a 4 year old, who really enjoyed the park and sliding down the bank along with newly made friends. (old clothes a must!) Although it rained and the pine needles were dropping as fast as the rain drops, the facilities were still beautifully clean.  We enjoyed the cycling around Carsington, which even my 4 year old achieved! and we ate at the local Knockerdown pub, which was  delicious! the location is tucked away, so as the blurb from the site suggests, don't rely on a satnav! Lovely place, would definitely stay here again!

Quiet midweek break!

We were greeted on arrival by very pleasant Wardens & chose our own pitch. We booked in for a quiet midweek break & certainly got it! Just the sound of owls calling at night & the wind in the trees. This was our first revisit after several years lapse & it was a pleasant surprise. The site had been improved considerably & the Toilet blocks refurbished to a very high standard. (They were all spotless & lovely & warm too!) Visitors in winter may want to take a torch.

First time at Carsington

This was a last minute decision to come here & we weren't disappointed. The pitches were set among trees & we were able to choose our own pitch. The week we were there was very quiet but it started to fill up as we were leaving. The amenities were spacious, spotless & warm. The wardens were friendly & helpful. The site is ideal for walkers & cyclists & the pub nearby served excellent food. The site had a small shop selling the essentials & there was a shop & garage in the village just a couple of minutes away by car. We will certainly return to this site the next time we stay in the area
