A gem..and so near

We know the area so well, and because the site is so near we have not until now thought to stay there … it is only 30 minutes towing away. But boy are we glad we made a last minute decision to book for a week. The sight is lovely hiding behind tall Pine Trees and we were lucky to get a pitch with glimpses of Carsington Water in all its moods. The dog walk is a good stretch and a rather splendid woodland walk. The site is very well kept and very open so the trees do not impose. I marked only 4 stars for Peace and Quiet as the character of the site does change at weekends and becomes much more family weekenders.... the rest of the time peace and quiet is the order of the day for what is a busy location. The site Team are professional and friendly, they maintain a shop with the essentials. As for the location even for us who are very familiar with the area we found lots to do...so for those from a distance come and enjoy exploring the delights of Derbyshire. Then back at the site you are miles away from anywhere....we will be regulars :-)

We love Carsington Water for hiking around and the whole area generally but have always been put off by there being so many towering trees at this club site.  We greatly prefer open, bright locations ideally with a view and mature trees reduce the chance of that.

I guess we need to give it a try when the kids have gone back to school and us oldies can enjoy the peace and quiet it brings to many camping sites. smile
