We stayed here from the 24th June to the 4th July in glorious weather. Our reception by wardens/assistant wardens was friendly and helpful. We chose pitch 62 being one of the few remaining pitches with afternoon sun. It was very convenient being next to the end of the toilet block. The facilities were excellent and immaculately kept with spacious shower cubicles and lots of hooks. The surrounding area is beautiful and includes an eight mile walk round the reservoir. Ashbourne is close by and useful for supermarket shopping. Belper and Bakewell are in striking distance and well worth a visit as is Dovedale where our golden retriever was able to cool off in the river. Be aware that the pine trees drip sap which gets on your car, caravan and awning (strangely it washed off the car in the rain on the way home). We found the hardstanding extremely hard when trying to put pegs in for the awning and used a combination of heavy duty pegs hammered in and some screw in pegs. This is a unique environment and we would hope to return some day.
