Castleton

Love this site, we have stayed a few times and looking forward to returning soon. It's ideal for walking and cycling. The village is not far and has a good selection of cafe's and pubs. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Lovely site

Having stayed at Castleton for a second time I'm very impressed by the general cleanliness of the whole site. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful especially when my dog became ill. I would recommend the site and especially its surroundings. The local villages are superb for food and beer and the caverns are definitely worth visiting.

Perfect location

Have stayed a few times now. The site is very well located. The staff are ever so friendly and polite, helpful also. The facilities and the cleanliness of them are very good indeed. I use this site as my base for the Peak District and I shall stay here for many short breaks to come. Sean Brown

Great location

Castleton site is a short walk from Castleton which is great for pubs and cafes as well as the dramatic Winnats Pass and Peveril Castle. Be warned though, the caves and even Castle are not cheap. We used the site to visit relatives in Sheffield and it is a good base to explore the rest of the beautiful Peak District. Only down side was the local youth hostel which was noisy until 3-4am on the Saturday night/Sunday morning but it was well within acceptable levels. The torrential rain in the middle of the night put an end to the party! Great hardstanding pitches with loads of room and when we were there - lots of sunshine as well.

Beautiful Location

If you love the outdoors then this is the best site in the Peak District fantastic walks and views and good amenities locally. There are caves to explore and hills to climb it is a great place for children and dogs. We will defiantly visiting again this year more than likely when there is snow on the ground it looks even better covered in snow.

Ideal site

We stayed here for bonfire night and the firework display in the nearby caves. The site was perfect, clean and close to the village. Access was good and the pitches a good size.

1st time @ Castleton

We arrived a day early at Castleton, having travelled from the Wharfedale CS. The wardens were really friendly, booking us in without any fuss dispite the early arrival not being registered on their computer. The site is lovely and clean, nicely laid out, quiet, with the usual high standard toilet/shower block. Castleton is only a 10min walk away offering 6 pubs, cafes, general stores etc. Hope is a little further at 15mins in the opposite direction. There is a good Spar in hope if you need any groceries. Look forward to going back as this was our 1st visit to the Peak District. The only grumble is that the wifi is poor. Great base for walking, Mam Tor and surrounding hills.

First time to Casleton

The wardens were lovely, cheerful and welcoming. We visited from Tuesday to Friday and found the site very quiet which was good. Not a great fan of hard standings but needs must. We have two English Springer dogs and I must say the dog walk is extremely small so you need to get out and about, albeit the surrounding fields are full of sheep and cattle so the dogs are confined to lead walking. The surrounding countryside and villages are lovely. The nearby village of Castleton is lovely with an abundance of dog friendly Pub/restaurants and tourist attractions. We used the bus service for Bakewell (another lovely tourist location) which was an unforgettable 50 minute ride through the beautiful Peak District. Nice clean facilities, we will definitely go back.

Tired Castleton

Firstly we must say how welcoming and helpful the wardens are at Castleton. We use many CC sites but the wardens here are brilliant. Location is wonderful but site looking tired and considering how busy it is, really needs some improvement. Far too many blue pegs. Numerous small campers using white pegs leaving sparse choice for vans with awnings. However the negative is wifi. It's dreadful and a complete waste of money. After days of no service and much help from the wardens, we did eventually get some kind of connection but so unreliable. CC chat line was useless and head office not much better. If they know it's a problem and they obviously did - don't continue to charge expensive rates for an almost non-existent service. We live in the 21st century and CC need to get up to speed and stop passing the book by saying its a poor broadband service in the area, not true. Having been on numerous CC sites over the past few months the same problem is apparent throughout. Time to get your act together

good for walking

we enjoyed our stay at this site,The layout is not good the one way system can be confusing at times. The barrier swipe card was not very reliable at times, The sign on roadside is not visible enough too we and several other people had gone past it.But after that good moan the facilities were well looked after always nice and clean The wardens are doing a fair job.
