Don't arrive early or let your dog wee on the gras

One morning my wife walking from the van with our little dog towards the dog walk. She got as far as the grassed area opposite the office when our dog crouched down and had a wee. The Assistant Warden was parked close by on his tractor. He said “we do have a dog walk” My wife replied “yes she was aware and that was where she was going”. He then said abruptly in front of some other members. “Well we have to cut the grass when you have finished with it”. He got off the tractor turned his back walked off and went across to the office to join his wife. The other members were like me shocked and disgusted as my wife was with the attitude of an employee of the Club. My wife returned to our van very upset there was simply no need to be spoken to at all like that. Dogs see grass and will wee on it. Even if our dog had a poo we like all dog owners carry bags and any mess would have been cleaned up. On the same morning we overheard the same Assistant Warden speak to a chap who had arrived at the barrier to book onto the site shortly after 11am. He said again abruptly and loud to the chap “I am much too busy (he was over at the toilet block cleaning) and if I was not busy I would have turned you away”. Yes I know you cannot book in until noon on each day but again it was the manner in which he spoke and dealt with the member. My wife and I in our working lives were both involved very closely with the general public in sensitive situations but always treated people in a respectful and understanding manner. No member (or non member) of the Club should have to tolerate being spoken to or dealt with in this way by an employee of the Club. It is simply not acceptable or can be excused. Also if you don't park correctly on the peg he will be round to tell you off. So you have been warned...

Dogs see grass and will wee on it.

Mine didn't they were not allowed to when being walked out of a site. We walked on the road way.

“I am much too busy (he was over at the toilet block cleaning) and if I was not busy I would have turned you away”

Sounds straight talking and honest to me. Personally I think it ignorant to arrive nearly an hour early without phoning ahead to ask if it was OK at the very least.

Seems to me the warden was doing his job correctly, albeit rather abruptly! I sometimes think folk expect wardens to be superhuman - doubtless we'd have had a plethora of complaints if he'd ignored dogs weeing, accepted early arrivals or turned a blind eye to off peg pitching. Damned if you do and damned if you don'the springs to mind.

"Dogs see grass and will wee on it."

Only if you let them !,

A short lead and walk on the road to the dog walk or exit ...

Sounds like a site i would enjoy staying on - a Warden enforcing the rules instead of trying too hard to be nice and pleasant. Another camper who doesn't like Club policies.

We stayed here last weekend with 2 dogs & cannot praise the wardens highly enough . They all work their butts off , the place is spotless . On the day of departure when I posted the barrier key in the box one of the lady wardens came out & asked if we'd enjoyed our stay & wished us a safe journey home .

Good to hear the other side of the story Allen. Reassuring for the wardens too, I imagine, who seem to be doing a good job at the site. smile

Sadly not all dog owners clean up after their dogs; you often see dog mess on many Club sites. Members should not arrive before the stated time. Seems the Warden is doing his job very well at Castleton.

As an ex-dog owner I see many dogs, when the owner decides to walk them off site, not under proper control such as to avoid 'accidents'. Sadly I also see dogs exercised on site with no intent to do otherwise

Wow, you sound like you need a life.

If a site says you cant get on site till 12.00oclock, why turn up at 11.00, and then why complain when you are not allowed in and label it has being offended if you don't get an answer you like.

Dogs peeing on grass. Well hardly end of the world, but the warden is doing his job bearing in mind that other people will be pitching their vans where you have let your dog have a peees.

Advice

1 - don't turn up before the site allows you too

2 - don't let your dog pees on the grass

You wont get offended then. Glad Im not pitched up next to you, as you sound like a life and soul of the party.
