Significant building around parameter and heightened rule application

The layout and set up of the site is lovely and location with so much to do is ideal for many travellers, couples, singles or family as we were. Heavily disappointing is the heightened level of rule application that even for Caravan Club took us by surprise. Be aware of the 3 abreast patrols that go around checking for slight infringements. Also the patronising tone should there dare be an issue to be advised. As a 40 something my last recall of being spoken to in such a way was back pinching sweets out the cupboard as a small child. Currently the site has a building site on the main parameter which isn’t in the sites control but does in the summer months means high levels of dust that gets everywhere. It is disappointing this isn’t pre-warned as a new housing estate isn’t a short term impact and no offer of compensation/ complimentary offering to this negative impact is even considered, again showing up poor customer service.

I was so relieved when I read this review and some other reviews for this site as I too have fell victim to the “heightened rule application” as you put it. It felt like every time I drove onto site the curtains by the reception were twitching and someone reached for a radio before several site employees flocked to intercept me. I was then subject to threats and total disrespect. As a safety professional with children I would never drive in away that threatened the safety of others but the site was determined to chastise me every time I got behind the wheel.  I was not alone, I also over heard another member being told off for catching the corner of the grass with their car when manoeuvring on and a child for going too fast on a hoverboard. In my view, these are such minor things they do not warrant the attitude of the site staff some of whom seem to patrol the site rather than maintain it. I hope they read this and something gets done about it as it will end up driving people away from what is otherwise quite a nice, well equipped and perfectly located site. As always, it’s more about the way you are spoken to rather than what is said, and the way I was spoken to contributed to us cutting our holiday short and leaving a day early.

I have to agree with comments about the attitude of some staff on club sites. Many are great but there are a significant minority who think the word 'warden' means they can behave like little jobsworths. I also find the attitude of the club is very dismissive if you make a complaint and they invariably side with the 'warden' without in my experience any attempt at actually investigating incidents. Over the years the club has become fixated on signage and nit picking rules, These, coupled with the annual increases in membership fees and site fees have started to put us off club sites. My personal opinion is that the CMC is a club in name only, maybe there are tax benefits from being a club? I do not believe, despite the PR in the increasingly boring and ad filled magazine the people who run the club behave any differently to those who run private companies. In fact we have often been treated more courteously and compassionately on private sites. There have been 2 occasions when we have had to leave a site early. One was at a club site when after heavy rain the service point became too flooded to use and we left a day early being told quite rudely no refund would be made. The second occasion was a private site where we had to leave a couple of days early due to a minor illness. The lady who owned the site refunded us for the 2 days without even being asked. We are increasingly now using selected privately run sites.
