A Fab 10 Days

We enjoyed a fab holiday here the first 10 days of October, even though the weather was quite damp. After the chain & absence of a queue (must have been lucky) we had a really lovely & professional welcome. They asked if we'd visited before, didn't tell us to pitch correctly or they'd be after us - so nice. They asked which part of the site we particularly liked, checked & informed us there were a couple of pitches there - so nice & helpful. So we got to pitch exactly where we like & the warden gave us the key in advance so we didn't need to walk back in the rain - another lovely touch. The loo block was always sparkling clean & I love the fact that the Ladies don't close too early - great for a lazy morning & late breakfast. The loo block (extended since the site opened) is one of the nicest CC ones. It is quite spacious, with slightly larger loo & shower cubicles that most sites. Ten showers in the Ladies & I assume the same in the men's, so no queueing here! The pitches where we were are open & not under shade, with plenty of grass around them. However lots of the pitches are under huge trees and some pitches near the entrance are all gravel, no grass, set out exactly like a car park. The door into the Chatsworth Estate is like a door into a secret garden. When our children used to accompany us they loved this and the walks on the doorstep. There are many walks from the site through the parkland and beyond and we took advantage. It was rutting season and so we heard the Jurassic roars - great! Our kids used to love to walk in the ground in the dark, listening to those. It's a while since we'd visited, as all weekends are normally fully booked. Only downside - there's apolite notice in the loo blocks asking people not to go out of the site between 12:30 & 2:30. Well we went out in those times anyway & didn't have a problem as there are plenty of passing places on the drive. Indeed when we first visited the site, the year it opened, people & their vans could arrive at any time!! It was a May bank holiday when we went then & because everyone wasn't arriving at exactly 1pm there were no queues or problems!!
